They are definitely one of the only teams that could hypothetically offer quantity over quality, but isn’t Evans an impending UFA? I like him too, but why trade for him when you can sign him on July 1st?

Indeed, Evans is!

I think he'll be a fairly wanted piece too as he seems to have really turned into a competent penalty killer and two-way 3rd liner.

I'm still stuck in this belief that if Lou adds an upcoming UFA, he gets the guy signed. Been the modi operandi to date.

And I didn't mention that getting a guy like that would help keep things even-keeled should a Pageau or Nelson get moved by the TDA as well.

But just thoughts.

It was like theorizing that a Montreal could rather easily part with an Evans, Mailloux, and Hage for Dobson - and that may be the type of thing Lou would actually be looking for.

Maybe he has a Russian friend or two that might wanna play with him?
Would be nice. Only if they can actually play lol

PuckPedia has Tsyplakov's agent as JP Barry. I guess that could be an error, or maybe this guy works with Barry somehow?
Most Russians have North American and European agents.

I still don't know what's going on, but this is Lou with Isles business dealings this year...

I fear he gets 6 years or something.
The funny thing is that Tsyplakov is doing everything we might have hoped Engvall would do, but isn't. He doesn't have the Engvalls get up, for sure, but he's better at everything else.

If he could learn to PK at the NHL level, he would round out as a complete player. No complaints from me about having him on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Guy's on a positively Baileyesque scoring pace. Not sure what the fuss is about. He's a mid 3rd liner.
I agree he's probably a third liner, with maybe a bit of opportunity to improve given how late he came over. He is 26 already though, so it may be that what we see is what we get moving forward. He's quite slow, and has a few too many giveaways. He also seems to take a number of stupid penalties, although that was early on so maybe he's learning. As such, I hoped he is signed to a reasonable third liner contract.

Man, do you yutes remember being only 26? Since when is that old? Sippy, never played in North America and coming over he looks just fine. I see a 30/30 guy somewhere in him. Will he ever hit that mark? Maybe? , think there is plenty of room and time to grow as a player

I hope so, but it's so hard to know with these latecomers to the NHL. I hardly remember 26 at this point, but I do know that most guys at 26 in the NHL are at their peak, unlikely to get much better, or decline much, over the next few years (of course, there's exceptions). Maybe he's able to train and improve over the summer that would get him to the 30-30 point, but to me he looks like a 15-30 type player. It also depends who he ends up playing with. If the Isles do sell off this year and don't bring in more talent in the offseason, he may be lucky to get to that point.

Ok, but his production is trash. It seems like people are seeing what they want to see.

Very honestly, I see a unique passing ability in his game. He certainly seems to have a hockey IQ that is a bit off the beaten path.

He identifies things that your average Joe doesn't and he's often been very adept at making something out of nothing. There's a trickiness there and it's paired with stickhandling skills that not every player has.

Is he blowing us all away with that?

Well, no. He's nonetheless given us reason to believe that there is more to come as he continues to adjust and understand the NHL game.

Other thoughts:
- After having watched him closely in the KHL last season, I thought his skating would be too "plodding" for the NHL. I had that continued impression in the summer clips we saw from rookie camp and beyond. I'm happy to say that although I still see it in his style, he has adapted and grown in this department. His mobility isn't a problem and he actually makes it into an advantage due to the deceptive elements in his stick game.
- He basically had Cy Young statistics in the KHL last season. Here, he's been a set-up man. That means he's found a way to bury pucks in a league where fewer of his teammates could do that and then distribute in a league where he's been playing with guys who tend to shoot more than playmake (i.e. Nelson, Palms, and Pageau). This is an alteration that not a whole lot of guys tend to make. His shot has been just fine too, so there could be an uptick in goal-scoring at any time - even still in this season.
- I knew he started owning the corners in the KHL last season. I didn't know that he's basically a truck. He's been extremely solid on his skates. This is a really strong man out there, at least in combination with his on-skate stature.
