If they did bottom out which players, whose contracts extend past this season, would Isles fans want to move on from?
Obvious one is Lee, who only has a year after this. Pageau is also a future UFA. Could also argue in favor of Varlamov, very reasonable contract and there’s always going to be some demand for goaltending out there.

As for the aforementioned Pelech, I don’t know. A lot of people here have buyers remorse about both the Pelech and Pulock deals, and in Pelech’s case (NTC finally becomes modified after his year) his play started cratering after suffering a bad concussion. So we’re at the point of wanting to get rid of him bc he’s damaged goods and hoping some team out there doesn’t see that and is willing to take on the lengthy term remaining. I don’t think it’s going to happen and I feel like the team would be better off just holding because inevitably we’re going to need to replace him and the price might be costly (see: Romanov in 2022).

lol on Florida panthers broadcast, they were talking about floridas league leading 7 short handed goals, with Sam Reinhardt with 4 of them. Asked Reinhardt about it, and said he stopped going to the PK meetings and that’s when their PK really took off 🤣

A few of the isles should miss the PK meetings as well

Best example of K.I.S.S.

Keep It Simple Stupid. That’s what somewhat frustrates me across the whole league, these guys made it to the NHL because they KNOW how to play hockey. I understand playing within a system, but there needs to be trust in the players to play with their instincts. A player thinking during a game is not a player I want on the ice. Natural reactions for me.

But what if your team has mostly mid-level skill guys mixed in with some low hockey IQ guys?

Outside of Maclean, the isles 4th is beyond brutal. The D struggle playing with this group and every shift they are on just runs the battery down on the Defense. I can’t believe there are not 2 better options in the minors

Panthers score 4 in the third, dominate and take control. Sure would be nice to root for a team like that.

Panthers also give sticks to the fans at the end for each of the 3 stars and get #1 star interview with Katie Engleson, we throw $1 pucks to the fans and interview with Shannon hogan. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

by many metrics, Maclean has been the worst player in the league. I agree we should probably be trying Karlstrom by now

He is truly horrendous but a lot Isles podcasts and social media people give him so much love. I cannot stand it, another AHL player propped up by fans
As a fanbase we tend to fetishize players that ”play hahd”, but I think the results of this season have some people slowly coming around. The fact that Matt Martin hasn’t been given a hero’s welcome for returning is proof of that

The "bottom five" of Cizikas, MacLean, Fasching, Wahlstrom, and Martin is among the weakest groups of bottom six players I remember seeing since Tavares' first few years here.

Figures we'd win on a shutout with that ground zero style outfit.

In general, it's just amazing what's become of Wahlstrom. Downright sad.

Some were discussing Jiricek a few pages back. Yeah…no way we could have paid that price. Not with how our team is constructed…or rather not constructed.

Yep, definitely.

And who needs him?

We've got Hutton.

Different vibes down in FLA...

She's engaged - if not already married - to Carter Verhaeghe.

Maybe someone closer to the Isles news & broadcasts but it seems to me like
there is a rift between Lou & Roy.
Roy used to show fire & excitement being back behind the bench but it now seems
like he's not a happy camper, win or lose.
Sirius radio had some chatter on Roy saying he just coaches the guys he has which sounds more like a shot at the GM. I really think ownership should ask Lou to step aside and make Roy the GM & coach going forward until the end of the season. To me, Lou just seems to be a control freak that just can't do it any other way than his.
Quite an analysis from a few facial expressions.

Certainly 100% speculation on my part but living in Montreal for all of Roy’s career and not loving his character , every quote had a hidden message or meaning , every interview that involved controversy, backed up my assessment. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s the best thing for this franchise but don’t underestimate the subtle comments….

You say, "What's become of Wahlstrom," as if he was ever good. He played very well as a teenager when you can outplay opponents just because you are bigger/more talented then them.

However when you reach the NHL everyone is talented (the best in the world), so you have to have smarts/hockey sense to be successful - And Wahlstrom simply doesn't have that. And I also think some teams/scouts learned during the scouting process that Wahlstrom had no hockey sense and that's why he didn't go higher.

Thus he was never good in the NHL and just stayed at that level.

Rosner tweeting that Roy is scratching Engvall again, due to not taking the puck to the net and staying in front of the net.

Tough love lesson 2.0

Be consistent in what Roy wants or he'll play those who will. Also noted Engvall is more skilled than others playing but not playing better than them. Sounds like 'stop playing soft at times' to me. Engvall refused to comment on the scratch.

We all saw how he can play when he does that; time to find consistency like Holmstrom has Pierre. Dressing gets even harder as the injuries start to fall away.

Roy also commented on Dobson not playing the last 6 minutes. Said Dobson was outplayed by others and the turnover for a Washington goal was a main reason.

Looks like the country club is slowly being culled . . .

On a somewhat related topic, Casey say hi.

I’m not saying that he doesn’t put forward a solid effort, but he certainly seems to dislike criticism (at least from the fans).

Remember the good old days when he said “If they want to be like that, they can stay home”?

I remember the good old days when Casey wasn't 1G/1A in 25 games . . . maybe he should stay home too
