and even then, if we stink for a few months and get better, THAT is better than being too loyal to the point where you end up like the Sharks with nothing down the line. Islanders badly need to avoid that fate. Live with some suffering before that suffering becomes long term and painful!
The Sharks were highly competitive for years, including making the finals. They just didn’t win.

That’s the price to pay for annually trying to win and be competitive.

If Lou trades a first or a second this year in the hopes of salvaging this season, it will be a disaster - unless he somehow manages to fleece another GM (which he has yet to do). If he moves a mid or late round pick to get some defensive help so that Sorokin isn't left out to dry in front of an AHL defence, then that makes sense.
Lou traded a bunch of junk to get Horvat. Whether that’s fleecing someone or not, but VAN got nothing out of that deal.

I came here to lurk and see why some Islanders fans wanted to trade Dobson from the main boards and I came across this.

I’m sorry what?

Raty is looking like a fine prospect for us and nearly made our team full time. He will likely be our 3C next year if not later this year. And the 1st we got allowed us to grab Hronek who’s been an excellent top 4 RHD for us.

This is funny. So, JGP who has a MNTC clause with term will waive it, but Barzal won’t, so move on (ps - Barzal has a MNTC…).

Well, the Isles are in tough spot since Nelson and Palms have MNTCs.
I thought Barzal had a full NTC - you are correct he has a 22-team NTC
JGP has a 16-team - NTC.

I doubt Ottawa or any of those Canadien teams are on there.

I guess it all depends on who is on that list.

The NTC just gives a player some leverage. Barzal has a ton of term and money, so the inference here is whatever team is trading for him would ‘want’ him for the remainder of the term.

Did some people already forget at age 25 #13 already won multiple playoff rounds being a huge contributor plus loaded up NHL hardware to zero of the above for Brady T in Ottawa who is 25 looking for prob 10 million plus soon Facts not an argument. Do agree it would not be a far fetched deal to be a basis for a trade though

"Loaded up" on NHL hardware? Winning ROTY is hardly "loaded up".

He won them as much as Matt Martin, Casey Czikas, and Cal Clutterbuck did. Outside of a 4 line TEAM, he hasn’t won jack crap, just like the rest of the team when it went unleashed.

Kudos, he won ROY under Dougie Weight Lotto Express behind JT in a league at that time that did not emphasize skating.

facts are facts: #13 at age 25 proved more than Brady T at age 25. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. I mean what makes you think Brady T can lead a team to a cup? What has he ever won? Did he win a national championship at BU? Sure he plays with sandpaper to which most fans would like to see. I mean #13 was 5 wins away at one time. Would not cry over the deal but.........

Kudos to extracting some meaning from that run-on sentence
grammar police are out eh? Multi taking here, while I work and nail these three foot putts in Sunny FLorida.....

Thanks, but even some Hall of Famers never won a Calder.

Hard to disagree with this when you watch Lee play with Horvat and think Brady is currently a better version of Lee.

Speaking of Lee, He looks like he is a half step quicker this year.... He has been winning more one on one battles too.

What exactly do the Islanders have to trade to make the team better in the present situation? I’m not talking about trading Barzal but to try and save the season before it’s over already. Obviously they can make a small move or pick someone off waivers but it’s not going to change anything. It seems to me they are stuck in limbo with all the injuries.

This is what scares me.... Lou might start selling high picks again...

He is just too slow with his decisions and his feet...
If this does not change, I cannot see him ever making the jump besides a #6 or 7.
Pisses me off, cause he seems to have a lot of untapped potential...

I think he needs time. I agree regarding the untapped potential. Roy seems to think he has a ton of potential but he does not have the confidence. Bolduc is only 23 keep letting him play in Bridgeport and have a chance to develop rather than barely play in the NHL.

More like he Gauthiered himself.

Salo didn’t make a mistake and got buried in the AHL. Lambert buried him for more offense from Aho that never came.
True, I really thought Aho could carve out a Marek Zidlicky type career.

Oh well.

Kyle MacLean 12 games, 0 points, -7 (+/-) which is team worst.

Following the footsteps of players like Fasching, Andreoff, Czarnik, Johnston and Bardreau.

Shouldn’t we have known the flash in the pan overachievers from the AHL never amount to much long term for the Isles?

Salo was guilty of not providing any offense. I remember him being no better or worse than Grant Hutton.
All of our defensemen, and what are we up to 9 this season??? Romanov this year is the only 1 I’m appreciating and unfortunately he’s on and off injured

Hutton just this era of Islanders Kevin Churchman (I know spelling is wrong just don’t wanna butcher it even more). Hopefully see ya never again dude
