Hi guys, Habs fan coming in peace. I was wondering whether Legault would be available for trade and what would be the prize. With Chatfield and Walker signed and a solid RHD prospect pool- Morrow, Nystrom and Badinka, does he have a chance to make NHL team?
Legault as a RD is one of the Canes under the radar guys that has improved greatly since College, is playing well in the AHL, can skate well and has size as a weapon. He is my favorite young Dman in the system after Nikishin & Morrow.

Yes, Canes have two NHL RD's in Chatfield and Walker signed for longer terms & bunch of prospects that could make the NHL beside Legault so it's quite possible he could be available. I'd note that Chatfield and Walker are not big & have superb speed but if the Canes could replace one of them with a bigger player with speed I'd trade one of them.

I'd add, Brind'Amour saw him play a lot at Quinnipac, watches all of Chicago's AHL games on tape and I'm sure is getting feedback from his son on the Wolves too so......if he thinks Legault will be a valuable NHLer then I doubt they will let him go.

I haven’t watched but one Wolves game, so my analysis doesn’t mean shit. But Legault gives me Brett Pesce vibes. Same build type. Plays a quiet game, but just shuts things down.

I do wonder if he’ll ever get a chance to crack the roster.
That's the one thing that I wonder about that makes me a little less hesitant to move him than I normally would be with someone on his kind of trajectory. Outside of Burns the next opening on that side is in another 3 seasons (Chat's deal expires after 26-27). Of course, if he's good enough moving Chat isn't an impossibility either.

Looks like the options might be re-signing Andersen or trading for Gibson.
Yeah, and it looks like Anaheim is content to play hardball in negotiations for the 38th straight year.

As frustrating as Andersen can be health-wise, he's trending to be the second best goalie available in free agency next to Vejmelka. It looks like our hand will be forced to re-up Andersen for another 2 year deal and pray that pro scouting yields a good #3.

With the cap room going up so high next year, all the teams who had decent goalies gave them 5 year job security and decent pay to keep them from reaching free agency.

The conundrum with Andersen is that he's a high-performing goalie when he's available. Is Demko going to be that much of an upgrade considering that he also has a bunch of health questions? If I were Tulsky, I would take the swing for Vejmelka, high-dollar extension and all, but again, I'm not him. Andersen and Demko, in weird sorts of ways, represent a sort of value proposition because of said injury history.

Honestly, if keeping Andersen meant that we had a LeBron/Bosh era Miami Heat-esque offseason at forward with Rantanen and Marner, I'd be OK with that. Scott Morrow's developmental track makes that quite possible.

This. If you are not replacing Freddy with someone with a track record of being healthy and at least close to as good as Freddy is than just run back Freddy for a year.

Would there be interest from you guys in trading for Jordan Binnington and or Brayden Schenn?

You guys certainly have the assets we'd covet in STL (High end D Prospects) and a guy like Kotkaniemi

Maybe we could find some middle ground on a deal that would make sense for both sides?

Rantanen, Blake, and Jarvis all being RWs is annoying. If Rantanen is here long term you’re looking at one of them moving to a wing they’re not as strong at, or keeping Blake in the bottom six while looking at a Nadeau/Artamanov or outside help to fill that top 6 LW spot.

Rantanen is left-handed, though, and Brind'Amour historically likes lineups where the wings all play the strong hand. Typically such lineups are the most defensively-tight.

Significantly takes away from Rantanen’s strengths of cutting in and picking corners or to utilize open ice for playmaking. I would argue moving TT to LW similarly nullified his natural game.

There are benefits and trade-offs to certain coaching systems. Tulsky still traded for the guy, well-aware about how Brind'Amour was going to play him.

Hasn't Blake been playing on the left side though all season?

Hasn't Blake being playing the left side though with Aho and Jarvis/Svech/Rants? Or at least one of those two was on the off wing for the Utah game so the problem may already be solved there.

One of them would’ve had to be on their off wing, that Hall-Kk-Svech line ensues with Svech at RW despite him being a career LW in this league (he played RW through Juniors.) I know it can work and all the best teams are malleable in this regard, i’m just all about the perfect balance and symmetry regarding lines and pairings lol.
