Apparently this yanks Morrow out of the AHL All Star Game, that's gotta be some mixed emotions.

I don't know, they're advertizing the event by how big amount of the participants have become NHLers. I'd think the event has foremostly the showcase value for the player to try and pry the call-up for himself so it may be a bit like not getting to go to the WJC because you were called up to the NHL at that time: you've already gotten the big prize you were hoping to get from the event.

The 2025 AHL All-Star Classic will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League: since 1995, more than 94 percent of All-Star Classic participants have gone on to compete in the National Hockey League, including Cam Atkinson, Drake Batherson, Jordan Binnington, John Carlson, Logan Couture, Thatcher Demko, Lukas Dostal, Connor Hellebuyck, Tristan Jarry, Kaapo Kahkonen, Jordan Kyrou, Jonathan Marchessault, Jacob Markstrom, J.T. Miller, Brandon Montour, William Nylander, Kyle Palmieri, Mikko Rantanen, Dylan Strome, Tyler Toffoli, Vitek Vanecek and Mats Zuccarello, as well as current Seattle Kraken players Oliver Bjorkstrand, Vince Dunn, Yanni Gourde, Jamie Oleksiak and Philipp Grubauer.
If not, at least the player will have the NHL salary from the call-up time to dry his tears on.

Why not recall Nadeau too? There are no AHL games until the 7th, plus he is on a huge heater right now. I know it’s all about $$$, but still…..

I imagine it’s to have the extra guy on the road trip, but again, most of the team has this virus that’s ravaged the room. I know of at least two defensemen that played sick in the LA game, so if both can’t go, maybe we need both Stillman and Morrow.

Yeah but the AHL thing was yesterday. They’re clearly ok with calling up Ryan Suzuki with 3 hours notice a bunch of times in a row - why make Morrow miss the All Star game when we don’t even play until Tuesday?

Maybe Morrow wasn’t interested in playing in the All-Star game, and this was the way to make that happen? A lot of NHL players find the ASG a burden. Morrow also has higher ambitions than AHL All-Star.
You can have higher ambitions but also still want to take part in a fun exhibition with your peers before being called up.

If I were him I'd definitely be a bit bitter if this was only a quick call up to be an extra or for cap purposes and whatnot. The Canes don't play til tomorrow, they easily could have let him participate in the ASG and then just fly to Winnipeg afterwards

this may make me a bad person, or at least a cold-logic guy instead of warm emotions guy, but part of me would just be fine and dandy with using this sickness running through the room as an excuse to sit burns. whether he has it or not. obviously, it would be done only if he agrees at this point, but i'd like to think he is self-aware enough to recognize that he is more likely to help us to a cup if he isn't worn-down ass in the playoffs.

miss a game, celebrate a great streak, and then rest up a few times on way to the playoffs - he's a hall of famer either way. and a rested burns might just be able to tap into his old self for a playoff push. sure would be nice to have a better chance to roll in the hall a cup-winner, too.

if he doesn't, it is what it is. i f'n hate iron-man streaks.

counter point - i'd be a bit bitter if the team knowingly had me fly thousands of miles out of my way to play a meaningless exhibition, especially if i'm potentially playing the next night, and at the same time denying me a day or two of nhl pay which is literally 10x my ahl pay.

if morrow feels like you, yeah it sucks. but that isn't the only way to take things.

Chatfield was out with Jarvis and Staal and the nascar event so he’s not sick. Burns would be playing sick anyways so maybe it’s Walker

I agree, it's like celebrating the kid at school with a perfect attendance. Like, congrats kid, you knowingly came to class sick and exposed it to the entire school. Great job!

But given Brindy had himself an iron Man streak, I just don't see him ever sitting Burns

Plus, with the streak ended, maybe we'll be less likely to resign him out of blind loyalty to try and help him reach the record

Me personally, I'd rather get the call up than play in the AHL All Star Game. Especially if there is a possible chance to make a big impression on a team that has struggled on the PP and that's one of his biggest strengths. Even if it ends up being a small sample and he goes back down, it could inform opinions on his future in a lot of big ways. Hopefully, they had some form of communication with him and made sure they knew how he felt but I doubt it's the end of the world for him either way.

As for Burns, I think barring an injury that he literally can't play through, folks might as well just not think about it. It's not happening. He's going to play.

No d men are missing from practice and Stillman is on the ice too. Morrow not there weird
Yeah this is where it's weird

If he's not there for practice today, then there's no real benefit for them to call him up before the ASG. It's not like it's an either/or. They can call him up and let him play in the ASG.

Something strange is afoot at the Circle K

With the cap games we've played all year with these call ups, they are likely waiting for a very specific time to call him up. Think it's after 5pm that they can make the call up and save a day against the cap. They've had that timing with a lot of the call ups and send downs this year. May be something else, but probably just normal cap management.

Have the Canes suspended practice before this road trip because of the plague? If there's a chance Morrow will actually play, don't you want to give a rookie with a total of 2 NHL games under his belt as much time with the team as possible before the actual games? Morrow was still named an AHL All Star; I wouldn't be surprised if that is more important to him than actually participating in the event, especially given what he gets in return.

edit: unless I type something out in 30 or 40 seconds, seems I need to do a refresh right before posting lately lol.

If they wanted Morrow in the lineup tomorrow he would be on the ice paired up with whoever he was playing with today imo. Looks doubtful he’s in the lineup tomorrow

Stillman probably is sent down with Morrow being the 7D for the road trip. A 7D being necessary because of whatever is tearing its way through the locker room. I don’t think there’s much more to it than that.

If it was a trade, one of the insidurz would have very likely sniffed it out by now. Also, what’s the point of recalling him if he’s being traded?

Stillman wouldn’t be on the ice if he was getting sent down I doubt it they go right from practice to the airport

Just read in the twitter/X that Morrow is likely just staying on the western side of the states because they will be in Winnipeg tonight/tomorrow. No point in having him fly to raleigh just to fly back out. Not sure why he wouldn't be part of the skills comp though.
