Roster Building XXIV: Our Hearts Go Pitter Pattersson

Petterson is back on the menu, gents

I mean I would think Petterson's contract $$ would significantly decrease who has the space to trade for him, keeping the offers fairly low or requiring them to take back even more cap dump to make things happen. Hell it might even lower the price because they're keeping the "toxic" player just because nobody will pay for him

I would pay a lot more for EP than I would for Miller, but even still, EP’s contract is currently atrocious for his level of production. 30 points at $11.6?

I agree, Aho has performed just as well as Petterson (sans his one outlier) every step of the way for less money and is more invested in the team.

That's a pass from me dawg.

At this point, I wouldn't be shocked if Vancouver trades both. Miller to NYR and Pettersson to CAR.
I'm not sure why they would trade both, I don't get the sense that that are trying to enter a rebuild at all, just that those 2 have a problem being on the same team so 1 has to go. Maybe it happens, but I would be pretty shocked if both are moved.

A guy on the main board (I'm skeptical though):

Heard a rumor JT is now following a bunch of Canes players on social media and also some real estate folks in the area. If true it sounds like its probably a done deal he is going to Carolina.
i dont follow JT I am just sharing what I read. Could be true could be complete garbage.
That would be a positive development if he isn't just making this up (assuming the source has credibility which is suspect too), but where is he even reading this from?

Blockbuster

Car:
EP
Miller
Lekkerimaki

Van:
Necas
Kotkaniemi
Roslovic
Burns
Car 1st
Morrow

The NYI just signed TDA Dobson must be on his way to Carolina to play with Slavin.

Miller demko would certainly cost necas plus plus but I’m down

We'd definitely be sending out a goalie there or elsewhere and I don't see a market for Freddie, Martin, or Tokarski and I hope we're not moving PK.

Demko is just as erratic and injury-prone as our current stable. I don't really see it. Okay...I see it, I'm just not sure I like it.

Miller demko cap hit its 13 million total. Have to move necas and probably Roslovic or kk canes do have 4.4 in ltir though as well

Yeah, he's really not playing that many games in any given season.

Maybe the front office has decided to not extend Andersen, and they aren't optimistic about other goalie options before the deadline, or during this summer. So, they think this is a better option going with Demko in a package with Miller?

Assuming this rumor is true.

Wait, are we about to trade for Miller and Demko?

I swear if we're dealing PK, I'm going to be so ticked.

Sigh, yeah. The kid brings a pizzazz to his game that I love. But if it brings us someone good and reliable, maybe its worth it, especially if we think that other Russian goalie has potential to be better.

Demko looks as injury prone as Andersen based on his history.

I don't see how he's reliable. Which is kind of surprising we'd have an interest in him because of that.

Yea there's a MB thread about what players are the most "cooked" and Demko has been mentioned so many times I'd be uncomfortable trading assets for him. He's about as medically reliable as Freddie... we'd need to carry 4 goalies when him and Freddie go down

Maybe if we have them both, they can take turns being injured and we can get a full season of decent out of both of their cooked asses

Miller’s contract seems like an anchor around the neck. Always has.

Great player. Unfortunate contract. I have never thought he was someone we would be paying up for. If he was retained or something, sure. We want discounts and bargains. If we actually took on that whole contract I’d feel like I don’t know our management at all.

Just because the Canes are active doesn't mean that Tulsky has abandoned his principles.

Miller is available precisely because he's an underperforming asset with upside that Vancouver can't currently realize. They can't pretend those issues don't exist. They don't like the offers because he's got problems, so they're either gonna have to take the best "bad" offer for Miller or they're gonna have to regroup. They'll have the same issues moving Petterson because he has a similar problem: that contract.

If the deal isn't for Miller, I doubt we see a deal with Vancouver at all.
