I don't see it the same way. Necas could well be a Cane for a long time to come; it's just that Petterssons rarely get traded and the trade value is as expected. This is a business: if a big fish is there, you are the smart one to lurk around in case.

Again, I’m totally fine with missing out on EP. Missing on Tkachuk last year hurt me more. I’m not convinced EP is the guy we need though of course it would be amazing to have him.

At least this wasn’t another case of our offer just getting beat. The player wanted to stay more than play for us, another reason to be fine with it not working out.

Petey's always been a fav on my wish list.. having followed him on Insta forever, I sense our market is not a great match in some ways.

I assume the + was one of Necas or Jarvis. No way the deal can get done without one of them going back.

Vancouver fans don’t want to hear it, but Kotkaniemi makes a lot of sense going back as part of the package.

No, I wouldn't, but with Pettersson no longer a reality, I think Zegras would be an interesting gamble at the deadline for a more normal Drury + prospects + picks trade package. Necas is too much for him, but I generally like taking gambles on highly-talented young guys with warts.
