With all the arguing over Strome's worth, I just want to say getting Strome for Ryan Spooner was huge. Strome might not be an IDEAL 2C, but what a massive f***ing player upgrade.

That whole trade tree is amazing. An upcoming UFA and a 2nd round pick got us Strome, Lindgren, and the pick used to select Miller. What a huge win it was.

That is encouraging for sure, and not a total surprise. He's still relatively young and did play well his first 3 years in the league. I don't know if we will get a 1st but I'd be surprised at less than a 2nd or equivalent value. I just can't piece together why Vegas would want him.
Let us not question any of this and buy his plane ticket quick.
(disclaimer: no, I don't have a "backup" plan.)

It's only been 50 games. Compared to a decade+ of Hank.

We need to be better down the middle. There's no getting away from it. Chytil at 3C is disastrous IMO, with Zibs and Strome ahead of him. We need to improve our middle6 Centers.

If Strome is staying, we need a Selke type 3C. Not Chytil.

Ideally we get two middle6 2-way centers... preferably with speed

The team will come together... I feel like we should be better 5v5 but I fully expect them to improve in this 2nd half
50 games or not, I've seen this story before. No team that relies solely on goaltending to win is going to win a championship. That area needs to improve.

We've been through the cap numbers many times. They have 10.6 million to re-sign Strome and Kakko and find like 4 more forwards and a goaltender.

Miller at 100% makes it downright impossible to keep Strome. Miller at 50% merely makes it extremely hard and unlikely to keep Strome, and it means you are squeezing Kakko and hoping he doesn't get an offer sheet.

The difference between Miller and Strome isn't worth Krav, Nils, and a first.

YOU can go thru it all you want but that has zero effect on what Drury wants to do my friend

and spare me the cap crunch. Teams find a way to get who they want. They’ll figure it out if that’s what they want to do

I see the fact that relying on your goaltender to win you every playoff game is a strategy that was employed by this this team from 2006-2020 and it resulted in zero championships. It’s a team game.

we’re on a 112 point pace. It’s not just Igor. Kreider leads the league in goals. Everyone knows bread and Mika are 2 of the best forwards in the league. Strome has been a solid 2c. Fox just won the Norris. Our top 4 d is solid. Adding another ppg c would obviously improve the rangers 5v5.

it’s a ridiculous circular argument.

Jt Miller is top 15 and scoring over the last 3 years and is affordable if salary is retained.

No. The rangers are too inconsistent.

Igor is 22-5.

5v5 is terrible, you can’t win w just a vezina.

a ppg c wouldn’t improve 5v5?

It is Igor. Igor and the PP. That is what both the eye test and the underlying numbers say. The Rangers are consistently outshot and outplayed 5v5. If they had an even slightly lesser goalie they wouldn't be on place for 112 points and they'd be a playoff bubble team at best.

If this is the case (& I'm hopeful it is at this point, because otherwise it means they're busts) then being buyers this season would be insane.
No one we acquire is going to make Laf and Kakko develop into top-6 players. Time is the other thing that can do that (again hopefully).

I am of the opinion that if those kids aren't difference makers we aren't winning anything. If they bust we'll need another rebuild/retool.

This team is too easy to shut down when it's just Bread/Zbad other teams concentrate on.

The Rangers are done with the hardest part of building a Cup contender. They have the elite talent (Fox/Igor/Bread/Mika/Kreider) to get you to the promised land. They've also identified the young players who will be their depth during this window (Laf/Kakko/KAM/Schneider/Othmann) and the fabed "next core". Now they need to use surplus assets & picks (1st & 2nds this year/Nils/Krav/Chytil/etc.) to acquire players who complement the foundational players over the coming years.

Not saying they should sell everything this year, but they certainly will add a couple forwards at the deadline as reinforcements.

Not sure if this has been posted yet.

Ice Breakers: Golden Knights expressed interest in Marc-Andre Fleury reunion

"First, Fleury is not alone on a list of potential targets. Per sources, the Golden Knights have also expressed interest in New York Rangers backup Alexandar Georgiev, who we previously reported let it be known that Georgiev feels he’s ready for a bigger opportunity elsewhere. There are likely others."

Seravalli and Gregor both said on the DFO podcast a while back they would trade a 1st for Geo. Seems like there's a lot of people in hockey circles who think Georgiev is worth more than I do. Encouraging?

Id rather get a player from Vegas rather than a pick. They have lots of guys who can help us.

This is not an accurate statement, like at all. We traded pieces for Nash, which we turned into Strome, Key and Lindgren.

Percisely it's Dubinski, Anisimov, Erixon and 1st for Buchi (ultimately Blais and a 2nd rd pick in 2022), Key, Strome and Lindgren.

Which is still good, but not what you said.

Why not go back further? The trade for Nash was a 1st, four 2nds, and a 5th.

The Rangers also got six years and 252 points out of Nash, but that seems like a footnote.

There was an infinitely dense, tiny ball of matter. Then, it all went bang, giving rise to the atoms, molecules, stars, galaxies, and the NHL we see today.
