JD wants one of the Foligno's in a Rangers sweater.

That Foligno can't skate well. The brother is a guy I would want on this team. Guys a leader, and a culture shaper. That's the type of captain you want. He and Wheeler are the two best in the game imo. Their teams play hard every night and play to their identity. You don't see guys taking shifts off, or playing without focus.

Recapping the Roster Building Thread XXIII…

Jacob Trouba will not be traded.

The Rangers do not have an expansion draft problem, at least in goal. Lundqvist is a UFA at the end of the 2021 season and Sherstykin does not need to be protected. Even if the Rangers keep all three (unlikely) Georgiev could be protected.

Tallon did not fire Gallant in Florida. He hired him. Tallon was kicked upstairs and replaced by a couple of nerds. The nerds fired Gallant. After the team badly underachieved, the nerds were fired and Tallon was given full authority again.

An offer sheet that carries a return of a second (in 2021) could have been up to $4,227,437 for this year. That number will go up $100,000-200,000K next year. An offer sheet for Georgiev (or for that matter Tristan Jarry or Matt Murray) is possible from plenty of teams, especially those with draft capital and a need for a long term goaltender solution.

Arizona is extremely unlikely to trade Lawson Crouse. He is their Lemieux.

And finally, Jacob Trouba will not be traded.

Bravo.

We’re all going to be disappointed with the Kreider return.
Not all of us.

Those who don’t want to commit to CK long term and have realistic expectations with his value is, might be very pleased.

Give me a return similar to Hayes and I’ll be copacetic. In two years, when Kakko and Kravtsov and Panarin are dazzling, Kreider will be an afterthought.

Let another team regret that 50M contract.

I have a feeling we get a trade pretty soon. I think NYR org may have promised Hank that the Geo deal will get done soon which is why they’re sitting him so much. I don’t think we’ll wait until the deadline where we can potentially be in a playoff spot/bubble to trade Kreider and then go for the playoffs, sends the wrong message. I think a trade can happen within the next two weeks for either Kreider, Geo, or Strome. Hopefully Buch goes too.

I think Strome stays especially if Panarin likes playing with him.

He shouldn’t. Strome on a 3+ year blocks Chytil. If Strome stays where does Chytil play for the next 3 years? 3C? And what about Kravtsov as well?

Some of us were talking about Joel Farabee yesterday in this thread. Even though the Rangers were scouting the Phantoms, and not the bug club. Anyway, Farabee was just promoted to the Flyers top line tonight. He will be playing with Couturier and Voracek. He is also getting pp time on the Flyers 2nd unit with the same linemates.

Showcasing?

I think it's very likely they gave Georgiev a bunch of games before this bye week so they can have conversations with other teams over the week

And I'd love Kreider to be moved early but that's not Gortons style. He'll get moved 1-2 days before the deadline I would guess

Nope.

I cant see anyway the Flyers move him for a Rental.

The value in Strome is both his chemistry with Panarin and his ability to play up and down the line up at any forward position.

I can't remember the last time we had a coach like Babcock or Gallant that stuck to set lines. Nothing is set in stone so no one is blocking anyone. Especially Quinn who is maybe the most merit based coach we have had in ages.

Strome is still being judged by his time with Edmonton and fake future arguments over blocking youth. Ranger fans have a long history of favorites and scapegoats but Strome is shaping up to be one of the all timers.

I've read this thread, but missed a lot of the previous stuff on other ones. Here are my 2 cents on some stuff I've seen, I'd love to get a discussion going.

1) I think we undervalue Strome a little bit. I don't think he can be, but if we are able to lock him up somewhere around $4-4.5 million on a 4 or 5 year term, I think you do it. If his ask is above that, I trade him at this deadline (value will never be higher), but if not, you do a QO/ go to arbitration, have him for 1 more year and trade at that deadline. Yes, Panarin will make anyone better but let's not forget Strome had 50 points with the Isles one year and was a consistent 30+ point guy otherwise. There is value in a known chemistry and a player who already has offensive talent that is simply augmented by Panarin. Panarin will make every center better, but maybe not to the extent of what were seeing right now.

2) Trouba signed a huge deal, and it wouldn't make sense to trade him really. Shoot this down if it's wrong, but why does his NMC start year 2? (is it a normal thing for this to happen? i'm genuinely not sure) Is it possible the Rangers thought of this scenario, in which DeAngelo breaks out and Fox steps in as a stud right away? Not in any means advocating for his trade, I like his physical shutdown game and he's helped Skjei have a bit of a turnaround, but is it really just a coincidence the Rangers waited for that NMC to start in Year 2?

3) This Panarin-Chytil-Strome line is something I can get on board with at the $4-4.5M range, as it doesn't block Chytils growth into a top 6 center and also keeps Strome in the fold

He's the new Rozsival.

I will say, though, for people penciling Strome in on the right side of Chytil and Panarin- let's try that for a few games before we automatically decide it would be a success.

Strome should take the faceoffs, however, as Chytil's figures are still Hayes-esque.

Players are only eligible for no trade and no movement clauses after reaching a certain free agent status. So he was only able to get a clause starting that year based on NHL rules.

People are judging him because he's largely underwhelmed in previous seasons (sans for his 50 point year), and the year he's playing with *arguably* the best player in the league, he's on record to smash his stats

I really don't think it's that crazy to be judging him. He's a niche type player that works well with Panarin. If he's not scoring, he's basically useless

Kypreos on NHL Network Radio just now...(paraphrasing), “a trade for Kreider is going to be expensive “.
The media setting the fans up for disappointment when he doesn't bring back Sweeney or Sakic's first born child

Ah, okay. I figured I was grasping at straws but also really hoped that the Rangers would have been smart enough to do something like that if it were in play.

Why would Kypreos care about that? His market is more Canada than anything Ranger-related.
