They need value though, they have to lock up byram, and theres the following year if landi manages to make a recovery.
Goodrow's cap hit won't mess with them this season and he offers value. And next season when the cap goes up, it's even less of a concern along with Landeskog.

Johansen can still play third line for them and they can always flip him at the deadline with retention.

Duclair for Goodrow. Florida can buyout Goodorw and get a cap credit if they want, or flip him to make the money work in a trade for defense (they are in on Hanifin and Karlsson with injuries to Ekblad and Montour)

I think there will be some wheeling and dealing this week and the Rangers can benefit from it.
I bet Drury doesn't make a trade that's beneficial. When has he done that?

no major moves will take place imo.

The hope is Peca has a big impact on our top9 centers 2 way game.

Housley helps our defenders take it to another level.

Muse helps develop/coach the youth.

We're gonna try coaching for once. If it doesn't work, there will be major changes to the roster.

btw How does NJ afford Meier at 8.5M? then Mercer at or around another $7-8M?
Mercer has 1 year left on his ELC and, as of right now, he's not getting a 7-8 mil contract. NJ has nearly 33 mil left on the 2024-25 cap (estimated at 87.5 mil). They'll use some of that this year, but unless they do something stupid between now and then, they shouldn't have a problem making it work.

They won’t have much accrued cap space if they pay guys like Hathaway and Acciari that money. Plus now we are back to forking over picks and prospects. Just sign cheaper role players, and bring in the middle 6 winger from the start of the season.
Simply not true. I posted the projection. Youd start the year with about $1.8 mill in cap space. Thats enough to accrue around $8 mill by the TDL. And at 50% retained from the other team youre talking $16mill. MORE than enough

Anyone who thinks a 3rd line consisting of Hathaway on opening night is anything short of a disaster is joking themselves. He’s a 4th line player. He produces in line with a 4th line player. He’s a nice complimentary piece but it would be a bad idea to think a guy like Goodrow isn’t a 3rd liner and Hathaway is any different.

I like the idea of Conor Brown. Craig Smith is another one who would probably come cheap. Both are looking to rebuild their value. Promise to give them every opera iry to play opposite Panarin.

He’s a solid player
...

Why would the Ducks do that they are rebuilding and dealing top picks
Pay attention.
they get "a solid player" and ADD 3 1sts from Rangers for 3 2nds, so trading up in each case, to swallow cap they are in a position to eat. Then, on top of that, there is a synergy as to Strome + bread playing together ups their value collectively more than individually. So since it is a relatively short max of 3 yrs, they can get this pair in a groove, then flip. for profit. If they eat part of both salaries, can flip for more profit.
Profit, btw, = more + better assets needed to go rebuilding -> competing -> contention.

Then, as to Lindy, a high 2nd and a good 2nd round prospect is worth Lindgren, who could be flipped for comparable or better value [viz, more if a team is desperate due to injury] and if they keep him, which they should short term for 2 or so years, he is a younger quality add when they deal Forbert.

Why would NYR do that with no replacements they are in win now mode
Because the ballpark $14m in cap space = huge flexibility for the roster, provided we listen to bern and do not hand out oversized contracts like candy, + add nmcs on top of that.

Also bern is totally right, win now = totally wrong.
Let Drury and Rangers bend, buckle, and break in capitulation to that particular fact.

Also I get you have wood for Lindy, he/his game is to be appreciated, but we need to give youth mins. Accept that reality.

Helleson is righty RD, we need.

You act like Panarin sucks . He needs to produce in the playoffs. He will get another shot
Sucking or not, gagging/swallowing/not swallowing after the fact, I don't care.
He does not produce enuf to justify 11+m.
The POs just highlight that.
Productive: yes. Has value: yes. Worth 14m? NO.

Lindgren is more important than you think
One for his on ice warrior like play and two because Fox loves the guy

Lindgren we have to sell high on, don't care that Fox loves.
Must develop youth

I know you are going to give the reasons you stated but it’s never going to happen.
It should.
That is the dominant and overriding pt.
Not my fault if NYR mgmt too stupid to listen to bern, and while we are at it, several other posters, instead continuing w/mo win now stupidity.

At this point, agree. We have to commit to the young players and make sure they're all signed. We have no extra space to work with really because we have Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, etc all locked in and basically un-movable.

My hope is we trade Goodrow and fit Othamm and Cyulle in and whatever holes are left fill with what we have or maybe get someone from the bargain bin.
Full agree and gave it a deserved love, just wanna point out we should not rush into dealing Goodrow unless it is totally worth it for us.
We can start out the season w/him, see how our internal options are progressing, try to help them along, and again, think ahead to exploiting an injury situation that always happens.
For example, today we deal Good w/o retention and take back a 7th, maybe a 6th, as a cap dump.
But if a trading partner is strapped due to injury, maybe we add a 3rd and upgrade to a 2nd.
Like that.

he's a 22 year old that has improved year over year. How much does he get paid? Is it safe to assume he approaches 70 points?

23 year old, RFA. 60-70pts? with limited PP production. If his PPP goes up he's looking like a 80+pts player. They can bridge him I guess.

You’re still ignoring that you’re overpaying for mediocrity. Stop. Its insane to make your argument for paying borderline 3rd/4th liners anything more than $1 million in a cap world. Insane.

Panarin to Predators for Tomasino, Trenin and 1st confirmed 🙏🤘🤟🙏
Tomasino is a bust he only scored 18 points. At 21 he should have scored at least 79 points.

Now Blais, he's the best kept secret in the NHL, maybe a package surrounding Laf, Kakko, and #23.

I don't hate Goodrow or anything, I think he's overpaid for what he provides. It's pretty much a cap move so we can retain our young RFAs. I think Goodrow's role can be filled cheaper.

His mid season trades have actually been fantastic. Nils for a 1st?
He's got 1 trade that everyone hates, but his mid-season evaluation of players and team needs has been perfect. (ignore the trade since that was clearly fed from dolan)

I don't disagree with that. Drury believes he's created a strong roster, we don't have the space to make any big move without giving up on a kid, which could blow up in drury's face really quickly.

I mean your position is a wild one haha. No 3rd or 4th liners should make more than $1,000,000? Bonkers position to take. Truly bonkers. Good luck with that strategy bud, lets see how that one works out.

Are you talking Buch or are you talking Nemeth
