If the players are announced in numerical order, wouldn't Zibanejad be last anyway?

they always announced the letters last...so number order until they get to the end. captain comes out last :D

I like him there and that ability to slide into the pk defensive rotation. Neither DeAngelo or Fox are pkers they’re going to have to learn it eventually but for now I like the versatility.

need to learn eventually is the key...but i'd give deangelo a chance, he isn't a rookie that needs to be sheltered. he might struggle but its worth it if he improves.

DeAngelo is going to get pk time for sure. But that still only 2 righty Dmen. He’s already getting some in the preseason. Smith helps for sure and helps tony ease into that part of the game

They name the alternates and the captain after everyone else.

Numerical order of non-A/C wearing players
Numerical order of alternates
Captain

So you'd expect Mika with the first round of players, not hear his name and think he's an alternate, and then not hear him with that group and then get hyped af

they always announced the letters last...so number order until they get to the end. captain comes out last :D

...and he'd still be last.

The PA guy would literally have to announce the other two or three players and then say "ok, so those are the alternates..."

Thought for sure after pumping Mika’s tires publicly they would name him captain

They must’ve had a change of heart last minute. Quite lame of them tbh

It’s stupid if there’s more reasons to not do it and you go ahead and do it
Completely slipped my mind that he still has 3 seasons left and will be 29 at the end. In my defense I think you guys are reading into this captaincy thing with more urgency than is justified, but maybe you’re right.

I was mostly joking about the captaincy thing (I know someone was going to say it eventually), but I am truly worried about extending a 29 year old Zibanejad

We've needed a great center forever, now we have one and we're worried about extending him...
If he wasn’t going to be put in the position to inflate his point totals through minutes (like he was last season) and line mates, I might be less concerned with it, but he’s going to command huge money and term at age 29

I don't think it makes any sense to speculate now about whether or not a Zib extension is worth it 3 years from now. Does he maintain his current production? Do we draft Byfield? Does Chytil hit his ceiling? Need a lot of answers before we can begin to determine if extending him at 29 is worth it or not.

If they don't name a captain that says nothing to me about whether or not they would like to extend Zib. If they felt that there was a definitive leader in the room right now, I'm sure they would give out a C.
