So who is guaranteed to be here next year? I would say the list is Panarin/Trouba/Kreider (obvious reasons), Zibanejad, Lafraniere, Shesterkin, Fox, Lindgren.. Would anyone else be a guarantee?

I mean I give Mika a 30% chance of being on another team. Id be very surprised if Miller or Kakko was not on the team.

Nils is probably another I should have put since I dont think they'd sign him to trade him. I also think those 2 are VERY LIKELY to be here that you mentioned I just wouldn't bet my house on it

His goals/game is higher because he retired at age 30. Gretzky had a higher goals/game from his debut to age 30 than Bossy had.

Gretzky stopped shooting is why his goals per game went down. Oddly enough he was still in his 20s and just decided to get a million assists.

Also you can't help but look at how bad goalies were in the 80s. Georgie would be more like Patrick Roy if he played back then the way goalies play now. Watching old highlights I cringe at how many goalies are scored on some serious weak stuff. Knowing what we know now we as fans would lose our minds if goalies let in the stuff the did back then. Its like watching recreational hockey now.

Would I get a sign off on both Boko Imama and Ryan Reeves?
I mean reaves gets himself suspended. You want a guy who applies pressure, but doesn’t hit dirty. Losing a physical presence in the playoffs is bad.

First of all there are bad goalies right now as well but today's goalies also have benefited from equipment upgrades. check out the difference in pads if you don't believe me. But to your Gretzky point spot on. He could have scored more goals if he wanted to but he was too busy setting up his linemates. The other teams focused so much on him that the other guys were left open and he always found them. Bossy was a pure goal scorer but Gretzky was the best.

OV is easily the greatest goal scorer

OV scores at similar rates to those guys in a time where scoring goals is twice as hard.

He also plays in an era where hooking, holding, headshotting, hip checking, slashing, cross checking, interference, slashing, etc... are actually called and not considered "just part of the game" or "the price you pay for standing in front of the net", etc... Have a look at some of those 80's and 90's games.

Now, you touch a guy on his gloves with your stick during the regular season and it's off to the gallows. Then, it was what you were SUPPOSED to do.

Gretzky had back issues as well, just not as bad as Bossy's two herniated discs that were (at the time and maybe still) inoperable and unfixable.

Bossy's last year was so bad he had to have other people tie his shoes.

I guess you can probably toss Jagr in this conversation, too as he had 766 goals, lost a year to the lockout and lost three to playing in the KHL. He would've been well over 800 as well.

Since this is going off the rails a bit, I’ll throw out an intriguing name for the AGM position: Kyle Raftis, current GM for the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL. He’d be in the same vein as someone like Ryan Hardy who’s another young, up-and-coming executive. He’s done a good job in Soo after Dubas left for Toronto

If Bossy's back didn't give out on him, OV would be chasing Mike Bossy......and he would have NO SHOT at catching him.

9 straight 50+ seasons. Had his back held up, easily the leader in that category

Reaves got suspended because he ripped part of Graves hair off. Seriously, who would even consider to have such a freak on your team.

And Trotz is his new Lemaire. The more this change, the more this stay the same. The Islanders win off the ice before they win on the ice. The biggest disparity between the teams is front office and coaching
Now Lou has done a better job that Gorton and JD did?

And again, for all of the love of Trotz, I wonder what the reaction would have been around here if he were the coach and suddenly Kakko & Lafreniere would have been benched for not being able to deal with pressure? Or if Mika was skating in overtime of a playoff games with 4th liners on his line?

The fact that the Islanders are one of the oldest teams and the Rangers were the youngest is not really a disparity? Or that the Islanders have are more or less finished roster and the Rangers are nowhere near that is also not a disparity?

I mean Gretzky had 8 straight and outscored him in 5/8 years and tied in 1/8...so I wouldn't say he would easily have scored more goals than him.

Gretzky played long enough to decline, Bossy didn't so goals per game isn't exactly an indicator of who was a better scorer. There is only one way to compare them and its over the length of time that Bossy played, around 10 years. Im not sure of the math on that but I'm fairly positive it would favour Gretzky.
Gretzky scored 62 points in 70 games during his final season on an awful Rangers team. Some decline.

Am also sure that if Gretzky had actively wanted to score more, as opposed to facilitating his teammates, he would have done so with ease.

Yes. Lou has done a better job. Look at the aisles, look at the Rangers. This isn’t even a hot take.

If Trotz was here, we probably would not have had Kakko and Lafreniere. It’s a sliding doors moment. The Rangers would probably be better and the Islanders would probably be worse. Dolan and friends were obviously not as committed to a rebuild as we thought. If they would have been upfront about that, we probably don’t waste years with Quinn

They both scored over 50 goals 8 times. Gretzky had years that he scores over 70, 80 & 90 goals. He also played in an era where it was not really as wide open and players could be routinely hacked, held and hooked. Grezky also scored 50+ goals in 50 games 3 times, with two times over 60.

Ovechkin is great. But at the end of the day, TGO wanted to set up his teammates. Had he decided to score more, there isn't a thing anyone in the NHL could have done about it. To say that Ovechkin is "easily" the greatest goal scorer ever" sullies who Gretzky was. Have you actually ever seen him play in a live game?

Umm.....one team was rebuilding and one was not. What exactly did Lou do better than Gorton?

Why? The lottery would have been different? Or he would bench Fox for not being able to handle pressure? Or Miller?

Sign me up right now. He is a lot more than a goon. He made several excellent hockey plays last night (as usual)

He is not a goon. He is a hair pulling sissy.

Edit: The NHL really should stop suspending these clowns, just have them dress up in latex gimp suits instead of suspensions.

What did Gordon do better than Lou? Luck out and win two lotteries? Make a couple on no brainer moves? Lou is helping getting the most out of an average Isles team and putting them in a position to succeed. And yes, he brought Trotz.

The Rangers tried to rebuild, but we saw the plug get pulled on that this season rather abruptly. Even before getting fired Quinn talked about making the playoffs as a necessity. Proof is in the pudding.

Lottery certainly could have been different as the team would have been different. It’s a butterfly effect
