The future isn't any brighter for centers.

We have so many prospects on defense that half of them could die in a fire and we'd still be able to ice a full lineup.

If two of our center prospects fail, it's still Zibanejad and friends. It's Howden, Andersson, and Barron. That's the organization.

Chytil is a good prospect but it's time to admit that he's a science project at center. Kakko or Kravtsov moving there is just as realistic imo. Frankly, they've played center just as much pre-NHL.
Chytil has played all but 2 seasons in his life at center. MacKinnon played like 3 NHL seasons at wing before he switched to center. I get the front office isn’t exactly the bastion of patience, but patience is still a necessity.

Hasn’t been that hard for them to find 50 point centers :dunno:
A 50 point center would be nice but it simply turns a cancer into a weakness.

Frankly, Zibanejad is a second line center on an elite team.

I'd be less upset about the center situation if we were asking a Hart candidate to carry the team kicking and screaming. We're asking a 1B to do that.

I love Zibanejad but we would need a center as good or close to it to make me feel comfortable with the position he's in. For that reason, I understand passing on Hayes. I don't understand turning around and spending that cap.

That's probably an indication he's not a center?
Or it’s an indication that playing center at the NHL level is a hard thing to do for young players and some need an adjustment period before taking on that role

I never said it wasn’t a weakness, and I’ve been very vocal about how wary I am of Zibanejad being the 1C and how much I’ve hated managements moves from July 1 through the rest of the summer

Isn’t loading up when you have elite talent on their ELC so team can maximize value or whatever the big analytics move/theory anyway? I personally have a huge gripe with that line of thought but I haven’t felt like sitting down to essentially write an essay about shifting contract norms and how I’d get ahead of the curve and yadda yadda

I would more readily believe that if he at least played center when he was like 14 in the Czech Republic. MacKinnon was a junior center before struggling in the NHL at first.

Again, good NHL prospect but him at center has always been a "whatever let's try it" thing that hasn't shown any signs of panning out.

He's looked just as lost there in his third camp as he did in this first camp. It's likely, at this point, not his position.

I've always said that making a move with Kakko on his ELC would be good but then I look at our lineup and question my will to go on.

The Rangers would have to be creative and take risks to make this team competitive inside three years. They might be better off being patient.

He’s said a few times he’s played center his whole life (until he got to the Czech men’s league in his draft year). He played great at center in the WJC and AHL, and he’s looked just as lost at wing in the NHL as he has at center

I could very well have it backwards.

My thing with Chytil is that I see his NHL future as a power forward. He doesn't control the puck well enough to play against adults like he did against teenagers.

I would like to posit a question that's going to get me crucified, but someone has to ask it:

Why did the Rangers -a team with the most stacked D pipeline and the worst organizational center depth in the NHL- essentially trade Hayes for Trouba?
Well for one thing, if Hayes walked we'd have neither of them.

To me it feels like he hasn’t completely caught up to the pace of the NHL mentally yet. I thought he was getting there at the end of last season before he got hurt, and I don’t think he’s been terrible in camp, but he’s still thinking too much about what he’s going to do and it’s hurting his game

Because:
1. Hayes will be 280 pounds by the end of a 7 year contract.
2. LD and RD are different positions.
3. The Rangers seem to be targeting D that are further along the development spectrum than their forward prospects.

Every team has three lol.

Every team has 3 Elite RHD....?
