Brooks comment about multiple solutions leads me to believe someone or maybe both sides don’t want a 1 year deal. They honestly would do themselves a big favor if they leap frogged next season when the cap will be tight again with a reasonable 2 year deal right now. Maybe that’s the issue. Tony doesn’t want a 2 year 2.5 mil total deal while the team is saying sign at your QO or sign a 2 year show me bridge deal.

It seems like a simple 1 year 1.2 mil deal would be done by now if it were that simple

I doubt they have enough to do a two year and it has to be a 1 yr stop gap contract

In theory Kreider, Namestnikov and Strome are off the books so they should be fine paying Lemieux and deAngelo next year.

Well not if DeAngelo puts up 50 pts which I have very little doubt he will. I think he’s a hell of a player and is going to cost a lot of money next year if he does what I think he’s capable of doing. I just think they may be trying to get him past next season if possible if they’re upping their offer and maybe Tony’s camp isn’t having it. What else would multiple solutions be?

Would be nice to lock him up but not sure how that's possible cause more years means a higher cap hit?

Trouba and Fox likely get a ton of ice time. Doesnt mean I don't think DeAngelo can heard more minutes than Fox but I kinds foresee him going in a few years once Lundqvist is ready and if he ends up progressing as they hope.

Yeah I think that’s the issue. If they want 2 years from him the price goes up and it maybe just isn’t going up far enough. He’d prob want at least 2.5 mil to go 2 years and we can’t do that.

It’s going to have to be 1 year around 1.1 1.2 and imo he’s going to force us to sign him to a Werenski type bridge deal next summer. His analytics show he’s going to be a very good player going forward

Just to clarify the ADA maturity benching last season: he misread the suit policy for team flights and wore a Philly tuxedo AKA a tracksuit. We can blame him all we want but fact is it was a direct result of a disadvantaged South Jersey upbringing. He’s grown and expanded his wardrobe since...

General manager Jeff Gorton surely is willing to go to $925,000 for DeAngelo, but that may not be enough for the 23-year-old defenseman, who recorded 30 points (4-26) in 61 games for the Blueshirts while getting 19:20 of ice time per./

Following the Lemieux signing, the Rangers have approximately $2.6 million in cap space relating to a shadow roster that includes two goaltenders, 13 forwards and five defensemen (and assumes Brendan Smith will be assigned to AHL Hartford)

The longer DeAngelo stays out, the more time Fox has to impress the coaching staff as well as gain their trust. If Quinn feels comfortable with Trouba and Fox as his top two RHDs, then DeAngelo’s value to the team is decreased. I’m a fan of DeAngelo, but his absence will not be doing him any good.
Exactly right. Not only would his value decrease to the Rangers, but with less time comes less points. Which means less money and term for the contract that he should be seeking. I truly cannot believe that someone is giving him such bad advise.

Again, I understand the sentiment. But the most important thing right now in DeAngelo's world should be how to put himself into the best position possible to get the deal he wants. This ain't it.

Horton and Clarkson on LTIR
I don’t understand why CapFriendly has them over the cap then. I’ll have to re-read the LTIR rules I guess.

Edit: Nvm I remember how it works now, I looked it up when the Ducks had Perry in LITR.

Even still...

LTIR = $13.75M (- H+D = $10.637M)
LTIR used = $3.85M (- H+D = $0.737M)
Hyman + Dermott LITR = $3.113M
Active Contracts = $72.24M (+ H+D =$75.35M)
Cap Max = $81.5M - $75.35M = $6.15M

Hyman and Dermott are obviously going to come back eventually. And they can’t give Marner a 5-year contract because Matthews and Nylander are UFAs in 5 years. Honestly I don’t know what the hell Dubas is doing up there. Matthews leaving the Maple Leafs @ age 25 is something that should never have been made possible.

Here's some specific mention of maturity issues keeping him out.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost...etting-help-to-tackle-his-maturity-issue/amp/

Thx guys.

It’s basically what I meant, something happened during the Philly game that had to do with discipline and Quinn said that he was looking for reason to take guys out, to get Freddy in who had been out for a while, so TDA sat.

My point is just, I am not saying there are zero issues with TDA, just that it’s starting to get a little overblown.

This is Quinn on sitting Chytil:
““It was an easy decision, really,” Quinn said. “Part of development is learning accountability and learning there are certain things that are non-negotiable. He and I have talked about that.””

Plenty of guys sat last season, and Quinn sat a high standard.

This must be a Joke. So he sits out for bs like that? He is worth a mil and a half, do we have that? Oh and that is my opinion.

That Josh Morrisey signing does not bode well for the future of ADA. It makes the most sense for him to sign the QO for one year and then try to get that type of contract. It's crazy and I don't think a 30+ point dman is worth $6.25 AAV but then again, i don't know Morrisey's analytics. but keeping things on thread topic... that signing is making me think he'll be emboldened to ask for more.

Thing is, his offensive skill set may not be what we need most... very much depending on how ready Fox truly is both to match TDA's output AND defend about as well or better. Our projected D corps for this year looks to be more lacking in crease-clearing oomph than it needs three PP quarterbacks. And I absolutely assure you that if one of Trouba, Fox and TDA needs to sit or be moved in order to get a little heavier and nastier back there, it will not be Trouba or Fox.

Then again, maybe Fox won't be as ready as all that this year. But next year, presuming Fox sticks AND Miller arrives AND Skjei has re-found his rookie form... well, it's gonna be tight, and offensive guys who aren't entirely easy to coach all the time and don't make Skjei money are gonna be prime candidates to be voted off the island. And if they've also held out...

The leafs are currently at 14 forwards, 8 dmen and 2 goalies, and that's without Marner, Hyman or Dermott. They will probably send 3 players down to get to 13 forwards (with Marner) and 7 dmen.

Dermott makes 863k, so his number is inconsequential. When he comes back, someone will be sent down. Hyman had ACL surgery in April. It might be a while yet before he is ready, and I'm sure they'll do the conditioning stint thing to buy more time.
