This is ridiculous.

No one is paying him that much because he had a great 2+months. It didn't happen with Sam Bennett, who basically did the same thing after he was traded last year.

Granted, Copp was better in Winnipeg than Bennett was in Calgary, but the same rules apply.
I think NYR overpaid Brendan Smith based on a couple months.

He had been a number 6 and occasional scratch for Detroit all that season before he came to us.

So that’s the precedent

A little torn. Sitting guys would be good. On the other hand, Bread and Kreider can break some really crazy records in a few more games. And more importantly than that, the team as a whole is on a very nice roll and you don’t want to disrupt it too much.

From what i remember from years past, sitting guys who dont need to sit, are not injured, and who are on a roll is a bad idea. You are taking them out of their routine, taking them out of continuesly doing their thing to doing nothing for a few games and then having to get back into things at the start of the playoffs is tough. Takes them a few games to get the feel of it back.

So in my book, whoever isnt healthy should sit but honestly i wouldnt take them out of this roll. This is the exact time you want youre team to be steam rolling. Having the confidence going into the playoffs and playing with the right linemates so youre not learning how to play with Greg f***ing Mckegg on youre wing instead of regulars will throw you off youre game.

Keep it the same and let them continue to do their thing

I’m okay with resting guys the last 1-2 games. Fox, Trouba, Zibanejad should definitely get a breather. Hopefully Panarin can lock up 100 in the next two games. If Kreider gets to 53 in the next two games, he stays in.

I be would never have given Jeff Skinner 4m and someone gave him 9m per, but fair enough, 7m pair is probably on the high side. But where is our pain limit? Harsh reality is that we probably should have someone on an ELC or making 2-3m in that role if we want to compete.

The Rangers have room for one more expensive player. The Rangers sign Copp. That's it. They don't have cap space for another big ticket. Trading for a center will be too expensive. All of these teams want players the Rangers don't want to trade and the Rangers can't afford to keep the player long-term. JT Miller. Dylan Larkin. The same recycled names. The Rangers can't afford the $8.5M contract extension.

What happens with Nils Lundkvist? His agent will not be happy with his client playing in the AHL next season. Claude Lemieux. He also represented Lias Andersson. Nip it in the bud. The Rangers don't have room for Nils. Many teams can use Nils Lundkvist.

The Rangers can't trade Lundkvist for a player who makes money because the Rangers have no money.

Anaheim needs an infusion of youth on D. Verbeek traded for Drew Helleson in the Manson deal. Jamie Drysdale is there. He is very similar to Lundkvist. The Ducks don't need Nils.

Edmonton doesn't need Nils. They have Dylan Holloway but Edmonton has Evan Bouchard. They have Tyson Barrie under contract.

LA? No. They have top many RHD in the organization.

San Jose needs a young player with a pulse but they have Karlsson and Burns on the right side making big $$$$. What are the Sharks sending back to the Rangers?

Seattle is an expansion team. They don't have many assets to trade unless the Rangers want a bunch of 2nd round picks.

Vancouver has Quinn Hughes and Jack Rathbone. Those players are lefties. Rathbone is in the AHL. Is there for Hughes and Lundkvist? Vancouver wants KAM or Schneider.

Vegas has Pietrangelo signed long-term. Zach Whitehead is there. They have a former 2nd round pick. Kaeden Korczak in the AHL. Vegas has other issues to worry about.

Arizona has Victor Soderstrom playing in the AHL. Do they want another smallish RHD Swedish D? No.

Colorado has Cal Makar. They also have Samuel Girard. How many small D can play on one team?

Winnipeg already has their Lundkvist in Ville Heinola. The latter is a lefty. The Jets coaches don't play the kid. Will they find time for Nils? Lundkvist for Heinola would be ironic. The Rangers acquired Winnipeg's 1st in 2019 for Kevin Hayes. The Rangers traded that pick and Neal Pionk to Winnipeg for Trouba. Winnipeg selects Heinola with the pick. Completing the circle would Lundkvist to Winnipeg for Heinola.

None of the teams in the Rangers division except maybe Carolina. Will they keep Tony? Pesce is there. What will Carolina give the Rangers?

Detroit? They have Sieder on RD. Hronek is signed for a couple of more seasons. Yzerman has draft two Swedish D very high in the last two drafts. Edvinson and Wallinder.

Florida? No.

TB? No

Toronto? They have already two Swedish D on their team trying to establish themselves.

Calgary? Maybe. They don't have many young D in their organization. They have Jacob Pelletier. The Rangers acquire Pelletier to include him in another deal. Not likely.

Chicago? They don't have much behind Seth Jones. Connor Murphy is signed long-term. The Hawks don't have much to trade.

St.Louis? They don't have many young D. The Blues usually like to trade for veteran D and extend them.

Boston? I was watching the Bruins-Blues a few days ago on ESPN. The Bruins allowed Torey Krug to leave as a free agent to the Blues. McAvoy is a great player but he isn't a true PP QB. The Bruins do have Fabian Lysell who is a good prospect. Probably not.

Buffalo could use Lundkvist. What are the Rangers acquiring from Buffalo?

Ottawa? Lundkvist would fit their team but they have some RHD under contract for next season? Zaitsev. Zub. Harmonic. They have two former 1st round pick righty D in the AHL. Bernard-Docker and Thomson. Bernard-Docker was the player Ottawa selected in the Rangers trade for KAM.

Best options for the Rangers.

Minnesota? The Wild are facing a cap crunch. Guerin could trade Dumba's $6M cap hit instead of trading Fiala. There is not much depth behind Spurgeon. Minnesota has Calen Addison but they don't seem to have much faith in him. Guerin was part of the management team in Pittsburgh when Addison was selected by them. Billy traded for Addison in the Zucker trade. Addison has played 18 NHL games in his first two pro seasons. Does Minnesota like Lundkvist instead of Addison? The Wild have a young D in Carson Lambos who would fit the Rangers. He has one year of junior eligibility remaining. Lambro's was selected with Pittsburgh's pick acquired in the Zucker trade. The Rangers seem to prefer the CHL players under Chris Morehouse. The Rangers would have their Ryan Lindgren replacement waiting in the wings. Cap casualty. The Wild have selected a number of LHD in the recent drafts. They could swap Lambros for Lundkvist and still have depth on the left side.

Nashville? They have Phil Tomasino who would fit the Rangers. Nashville traded Ryan Ellis last summer. They could use another RHD behind Fabbro. Lundkvist is cheap. He can play big minutes for them. Nashville will have $25M invested in their top 3 forwards after they sign Forsberg.

The best fit is the Dallas Stars. The Stars have Wyatt Johnson. 1st round pick 2021. The Rangers know him very well. Windsor. Will Cuylle. John Klingberg is a free agent this summer. There hasn't been much progress in contract talks with Klingberg. The Stars couldn't trade Klingberg as a rental. They have too much money invested in their team to sell off pieces. They need to make the playoffs. Robertson and Hintz will get the bag in their next contracts. The Stars can't really afford Klingberg. Lundkvist fits like a glove in Dallas. RHD. His contract works for their cap. He will be terrific for them. The Rangers get their young center option in Johnson who has one more year of junior eligibility remaining.
The Rangers add in any deal with Dallas around Lundkvist for Johnson or Stankoven.

I do think Lundkvist is traded at the draft or over the summer in a hockey trade for a forward. A center is ideal, but would the Rangers also consider a right winger? The Rangers need two of Cuylle, Berard, or Othmann to be able to play the right side. Kakko had an injury riddled year and is going to sign a 1 year "prove it deal" for next season. Who knows what happens with Kravtsov? Dallas isn't shy about drafting and acquiring Russian players. Zubov. Radulov.

Motte got injured but fits a modern 4th line like a glove. If he'll take $1.5 million you bring him back. The Rangers made a mistake not bringing Fast back. He may not have wanted to be here but if that wasn't the case, that was a blunder.

Rooney will want too much. I'd be ok with letting him walk if the Rangers slide Goodrow down to center the 4th Iine and ideally Othmann and/or the players acquired for Lundkvist wins a spot. The left side is locked up by Kreider, Panarin, and Lafreniere for at least the next 4 years. You need to find top 6 time for Lafreniere to let him develop. He gets Vatrano's 1RW spot to start next season unless someone else outplays him.

Vatrano has looked good here but he's an excess to the Rangers' cap space. I've watched video on Othmann. Very similar player to Vatrano. Shoot first and ask questions later. I wouldn't toss Othmann on the top line as a first year player but hopefully Othmann turns into a rich man's Vatrano with a little more jam. 25 goals a season while being a pest on the forecheck.

The bolded is unlikely. He'll get a 2 year deal. We've got to re-sign both Laf and Miller in 2023. The last thing we need is to have to re-sign Kakko as well, especially if he breaks out.

Something around 5-5.5 would be good. He'll put up at least 60 with Panarin imo.

I would like to keep him but why do we constantly talk about things like "putting up points with Panarin." Strome has scored at that rate. Copp is scoring at that rate. His centers in CBJ/CHI scored at a similar rate. At some point it has to be realized that the common factor is just Panarin and not that he just has this amazing chemistry with certain players (Which oddly enough is basically every competent player he's ever played with). No putting someone like Dryden Hunt there won't yield a 60 point season but anyone who already scores at a reasonable rate will score even more with him.

I'd even go three ideally. One is the least desirable term, I agree, but I think Kakko's agent will push for it.

Dallas is a 1 line team with Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski

I don't think they are moving any forward prospect for defense. As much as it would be great, they're not the team I'd see Nils being moved to.

It would not shock me if the Rangers just keep Lundkvist. If he isn't pitching a fit about being in the AHL, what is there to lose? Might want to see how Schneider does coming in as the favorite to be the 3rd pair guy. Good competition and depth in case of injury is needed. It's not like he's done if he is in the AHL at 22.

Feel like the Rangers will address the young center depth at the draft. Unless they make the ECF, they'll have their 1st and that would probably slot in around 25 unless all the teams currently above them in the standings lose in the postseason as well. There are a bunch of options around that part of the draft that are centers.

I just hope Copp's injury isn't a groin or hamstring or something that just lingers and gets worse. If we go on any kind of run, he's going to be at the center of it.
