I like Geo more than most around here, but if Igor is healthy this is a bad move by GG. Need a goalie that can help move the puck out against the Canes Forecheck more so than usual, Georgie is a give away machine in this department. Seriously, I was counting last game and everytime he played the puck it ended up on an opponents stick. Every. Time. You can guarantee the 5 former Rangers are gonna have the Canes exploiting that, you can bet on it.

This board will be un readable for hours when TDA puts one past him....

Gallant knows that Shesterkin is the #1 and George is the #2, but I always thought that if you have a back to back, playing your backup when the team is more rested would be the better play. Let Shesterkin come in fresh in the 2nd game and be able to carry the team if he needs to. The team can carry George if he sucks tonight.

The better play is obviously to start your best goalie against the team that is 2 points behind you in the standings rather than against the worst team in the league that happens to be in the west.

Points don’t count the same. The Coyotes are are an out of division opponent and the Canes are jockeying for position with the Rangers. Tonight is a 4 point game, especially with Pitt right on their heels.

But besides that point, and I said this the other day, if this team needs Igor to beat one of the worst teams in NHL history then it is beyond f***ed. They should be able to beat that team with shooter tutor.
Canes have 4 games in hand and there's probably no one who isn't a very silly person who pays attention to the NHL who wouldn't place a healthy wager on them finishing with not just more, but a good amount more points than the Rangers at seasons end. Being a 4 point game in January is barely a factor though I guess it IS a factor.

I dont want pavelski because he plays the same position as kreider on the pp- net front. If you play him on the 3rd thatd make sense, and you add a pp2 threat, but you have to see what the price is. Id like klingberg, but we dont need him tbh. We need a 2nd pair defenseman on the 3rd who can slide up if miller struggles. Im thinking calvin de haan or mark pysyk. Id trade one of the 2nd rounders for them. I think your biggest piece is probably kravstov or lundkvist and you dont spend that on a minor upgrade. Id give kravstov, a 3rd and a 2nd for girioux. Same offer for hertl and see which team bites. Hertls nmc helps. Dont worry about his knees, he hasnt had major issues the past two seasons and is playing really well. He also brings a ton of leadership and can wake up the team. It sets up a mini battle between him and strome for who gets resigned as well. Hertl might take a cut if he is competing with strome and that might be along the lines of 6 mil. Its tight, but nemeth is moveable and if you really need cap space, then i think you have to get creative next year and go after bergeron.
Krastov a 2nd & 3rd for Hertl? And then $6 mil a season? Not a chance

Ouch that gaa Georgiev has vs Carolina 5.07 yikes

He was given a chance. He did not make the most of it.

He was just fine. Again, any measurement of his performance shows he acquitted himself well.

Schneider is now ahead of him.

Ok? Schneider is also a very good prospect. I would have had Lundkvist ahead and probably would still have him ahead based on upside, but there isn't any great shame in that, if it ends up being true.

It doesn't mean less of Lundkvist, it means more of Schneider.

There's no room for him now, barring injury.

Yeah, that is not true. Even if Trouba remains, which he probably will not past 2-3 years, which would kinda coincide with the ending of some ELCs, and even if Schneider takes the third RD spot, there are still LD spots which Lundkvist could possibly switch to.

Jones also can play the Right Side and has shown to be better at moving the puck. Trading him does not 'deplete' anything.... the entire point of this exchange

It does deplete things, even if Lundkvist is not needed for our own future blueline, trading him depletes the asset pool, and that asset pool is still needed for long term core forward pieces.

Pawning him off for more middle six low upside Sammy Blais types because you personally think little of him as a prospect is foolish. He's worth way more than that.

I get it. You really like him. You called him Adam Fox but better shot. You've been wrong, let it go.

I never, ever said he was Adam Fox with a better shot. Adam Fox is a Norris winner and I never, ever predicted Lundkvist would reach that level.

I may have said he was Adam Fox LIKE, ie, in his play style, but he is not that good and I never insinuated as such.

But in that analysis I'm not "wrong."

And it's hilarious that you are calling scoreboard 20 games into his career.
