Gaborik signed for 5 years, if Panarin will require only those same 5 years, at the same cap percentage Gaborik had, I think we can make a comparison.
The money is already comparable. The years who knows, he probably wants 7. Unless he’s a Hayes type and bets on himself with a shorter term contract for flexibility and max protection and thinks he can get another big contract 4-5 years from now when the cap is ballooning.

Nye nye nye
You can’t rest on that. What do you mean actually. Why can’t the rangers sign panarin keep doing what their doing and pick in the teens instead of 8-10. Based on what I said and you evidencely ;) wholeheartedly agree with, what’s the difference between picking 8-12 and making your kids playing with less, and picking 13-18 and having panarin in the fold

So, I want to make sure I understand.

You want to sign a player, for $11 million a season, whose great impact is moving the Rangers from picking 8-12, to having them pick 13-18?

It’s not about instant gratification tho :sarcasm:

Gaborik at 7.5m and a 56.8M cap is nearly identical to what Panarin is asking for under an 83M cap. So this is exactly right.

Very different team, with a significant difference in experience.

For starters, Step came in during Gaborik's second season with the team. That team featured 24 and 25 year old versions of Dubinsky and Callahan (an age I've cited elsewhere in this thread), and a bunch of other players who were hitting that sweet spot in terms of age.

It also featured an elite, in his prime, Henrik Lundqvist.

If you're going to cite that, then you're pointing to exactly what people are talking about when they say that Panarin would be a great fit if we were a few years further down the line. Because that 2010/2011 time frame more closely resembles what our 2022 team should look like, as opposed to what our 2019 team will look like.
Gaborik was also frail as ish who started at 18, and older. Panarin started late, low mileage, healthy as anyone, and 26. And a much more complete competitor who happens to be Russian and the rangers have a bunch in the pipeline/

Gaborik also played with dubi his 1st. So dubi/step.

I don’t know man. I’m backing away. Your talking more and more assured and I’m thinking more and more the same thing. So agree to disagree, see what happens in a few and LGRs

You could certainly say that everything the Rangers have ever done up to this point in their history isn't "a sure thing" FOR SURE.
Surely you’re joking....

Go get Panarin, why not, makes us better and will presumably be on a long contract so he’ll be part of the turnaround.

Right. Barkov and Trocheck will be 24 and 26 respectively in year 1 with Panarin. Not even counting if they keep Hoffman and Huberdeau. FLA is further along in the process and the most likely landing spot.
I totally agree with this. I’ve said the rangers will be facing a panthers offer mirroring Vegas’s stone contract.

Do you think they wouldn’t have signed Gaborik if he were available two years earlier and the rangers had space for the reasons your citing?

Panarin is 27 and will be 28 for most of next year.

Our guys are so young, sometimes I really think we almost overlook that.

Even a kid like Howden can't by a post-game beer in the city for another month.

When we're looking at some of these ages, and younger, two or three years is an immense difference.

All I can keep coming back to is the element of timing. It's so unbelievably important in all aspects of our lives, to say nothing about this particular corner of the universe.

Your better than this. I’m done. I’m going back to the blog

The guy that they wanted to re-sign that they traded at the deadline when they couldn't come to an agreement? That doesn't exactly strike me as "available in the offseason."

Not that guy.

We have to plan this rebuild by ensuring that every roster player is exactly 27 yrs old when we expect to compete for the cup
