I think this is a misconception amongst fans about what teams perceive about a player. Boston wasn't acquiring 40 goal Nash. They knew what they were doing and the fact that they were getting a big 2 way forward, who was a puck possession skater. He worked hard, played smart and could chip in offensively on the 2nd line. That was their hole and that's where he slotted in. They paid the price because the market set it there. The Bruins weren't bamboozled into picking up a guy who couldn't score at an elite rate anymore.

sadly, he was that same player the last 3 years he wore a ranger sweater.

at 8 mil, that was a tough pill to swallow.

After the concussion he suffered in his 40 goal season he just never could find the same scoring touch. He often worked hard and generated chances like you'd expect but the goals stopped coming

Still think Fiala, Fabbro, and their first for Kreider and Zucc is a good move on the surface for both teams. I seem to be higher than most of Fiala though.

I know, I like him too, I just think the preds will try and keep him and dangles some more futures instead, which I wouldn't be totally against if it includes this year's and next year's first from the preds. I'm only selling Kreider at premium prices.

I got the impression that he's the one guy in their top-9 who might be available for a guy with a bit of term. Always tough to deal a roster player at the deadline if you're a contender, but for a clear upgrade? Might be doable.

For me, I need a guy with some NHL pedigree in any deal for Kreider. That way even if I whiff on the first rounder and Fabbro busts I'm still pretty confident in having a young 20+ goal scorer in Fiala. I just happen to think there's consistent 60pt upside there.

We're gonna have another trade go down 30 seconds before the deadline this year, I'd imagine.
Someone speculated in an earlier thread that teams know the players they are getting and recent performance doesn’t matter that much.

Wrong.

Teams want to know how players are playing right now. No one is going to trade a first because a guy had a few good games but look at Zuccarello, who is a rental, and how well he is paying right now. That matters. That’s why buildings are filled with scouts at this time of year. In addition to the bodies you see at the rink, plenty of other teams are watching on video. Several of the more tradeable Rangers are playing their best hockey of the season. That matters.
and that’s good news!

Due to:

(1) The Canadian media needs something to talk about factor;
(2) Dorian playing ball with reporters;
(3) Very inflated numbers for some players due to getting huge goto roles on a team, that also has manged to have a working PP;

there is a wide spread notion that the Ottawa rentals are the créme de la créme of the players available at the deadline this season. Then you have a big twitter army of Senator fans pumping out all kind of numbers.

I am not sold on that all GM's/teams/coaches feel the same way. Sure they are very good players. They might be the best winger or center for some teams. But I think the Stone hype is losing all perspective and I definitely think that many GMs/coaches has issues with Matt Duchene.

Time will tell.

I have them 5th and 6th behind Hayes, Zuccarello, McQuaid and Panarin.

You’re a little light here. Namestnikov (with salary retention) and Fast are both good values for what they bring.
Neither has enough offensive pop to bring a 2nd. Counting stats matter. If either had 30 points for whatever reason, sure, but neither even have 20.

fiala and fabbro would be a good start plus a 1st. zucc and ck to that roster would make them dangerous.

fiala would be an injection of talent and speed and slot right into a top 6 role. like this kid alot.

fabbro and that skating would be a terrific add.

I'm not disputing that. But it really does support the notion that the Bruins knew who they were getting. He didn't fall off overnight.

Player values are a bit of both modes of evaluation. Their general value is set by the body of work. But the bidding and deadline interest is a function of recent play.

So Doug Armstrong sold on Stastny last year with his team in the playoff picture. Would he go the opposite route and add a guy like Hayes (who he perhaps extends) this year?
