This deadline scares me a little. I have no idea what we are going to be watching next Wednesday. I hate the thought of paying MSG prices for minor league hockey.
Will look a lot like post-deadline last year. Hopefully they don’t accumulate as many points. That sweep of western Canada was a killer.

If anyone at all outside of Hayes, Zuccarello, and McQuaid are dealt, this team would essentially be Kreider, Zibanejad, Lundqvist and friends.

Someone speculated in an earlier thread that teams know the players they are getting and recent performance doesn’t matter that much.

Wrong.

Teams want to know how players are playing right now. No one is going to trade a first because a guy had a few good games but look at Zuccarello, who is a rental, and how well he is paying right now. That matters. That’s why buildings are filled with scouts at this time of year. In addition to the bodies you see at the rink, plenty of other teams are watching on video. Several of the more tradeable Rangers are playing their best hockey of the season. That matters.

Teams may think that matters but they are wrong. That is recency bias.

Columbus prospects don’t look too appealing. Would have to be a 1st coming back for Hayes.
Bemstrom, Peeke, and Texier I’d be really interested in
Wouldn’t mind either of them along with a 1st for Hayes though they have different values

Eh... if you're talking about long-term performance of established veterans, I absolutely agree with you. If, for example, you're acquiring, Kreider, who has an established track record plus another year on his deal, it really shouldn't matter all that much.

But then, there's the question of rentals, and whether or not they're "in good form" as they like to say in European football. If you're acquiring a guy to be a difference-maker over just the next 20-35 games, and you're going to lose him thereafter, it is relevant to see how he's currently playing. Just look at Rick Nash last year.

And as to younger players, it's important to get a read on where they are in their development.

Yep and MSG hasn't adjusted at all.

Prices are still ridiculously high considering the product they're putting out there. It's one thing you want to keep raising prices every season (when you're already one of the most expensive in the league) when the team is contending, but when they're sellers and missing the playoffs for a second straight season, it would be nice to have some sales or something.

These are short term rentals. They want to know how the guy is playing now. Not last year, not next year.
I think past history matters insomuch that teams, rightly or wrongly, can get sucked into the mindset that "once *player* is on a better team, they'll flourish again!"

I think we saw it last season with the Nash trade.

That only matters if it's shown that a players performance in the last X games is a better indicator of how he will perform going forward which it has not.

Didn’t you tell me you were really down on Peeke a while back? I’d add Davidsson to that list of F prospects, and I’d be happy with any of those 4 plus a 1st for Hayes

lol that people still think that corporations aren't going to gouge you for every cent that they think they can get away with

If a lot of people stop going to games, prices may come down. Very unlikely they'll just do it out of the goodness of their hearts and because "sorry we didn't make the playoffs!"

As one of the many NYR fans in the Raleigh area, I can attest to the fact that once the arena is empty you can get good deals on tickets. They specifically target games with teams that are bad or have very small fan bases that have relocated here. Think Canes vs. Florida, you can almost always see them advertising a "special deal" for a game like that over the last 10 non-playoff years. If they get in a playoff position though, all bets are off. This place was fun to be at a game in in the cup and deep playoff run years.

I think this is a misconception amongst fans about what teams perceive about a player. Boston wasn't acquiring 40 goal Nash. They knew what they were doing and the fact that they were getting a big 2 way forward, who was a puck possession skater. He worked hard, played smart and could chip in offensively on the 2nd line. That was their hole and that's where he slotted in. They paid the price because the market set it there. The Bruins weren't bamboozled into picking up a guy who couldn't score at an elite rate anymore.

its based on supply and demand. if people stop going and seats are empty then they might adjust prices. but if its a sellout they aren't going to lower the prices cause they feel bad that the team isn't good
