Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

Muse is walking into a situation where the team is on its way down. If he has any success its likely going to be at his second job (if he gets one) because I doubt he hangs around long enough to see the end of the Crosby era and the potential upswing of what ever comes after. Its a weird hire tbh but good luck to him.

This isn't Knoblauch who got to step into a job where he got 2 of the 4 best playoff performers of all time right off the bat so at least I'll be spared that noise outside of the smattering that is happening right now.

Anybody with a brain wouldn't even think about trading Cuylle for Robertson or Tkachuk whether it's here or on Mars.

That is so outlandish and would get laughed out of the building by anyone with any knowledge about the sport. I like Cuylle but he’s getting extremely overrated because everyone else on the team had a disappointing season and he exceeded expectations.

upside of Cuylle plus current low cost >> Robertson or Tkachuk
keep/develop youth
stop w/win now stupidity

Ideally, I'd rather not deal Lafreniere, but he may be a candidate that would benefit from a change of scenery and getting away from this organization and have a new perspective o his career. Other pieces would be involved, so it wouldn't be just Laf for no. 4 overall (I was half kidding when I suggested that LOL).

He may break out, but I doubt that ever happens as a New York Ranger. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm skeptical.
LaF for Reinbacher
big risk but big reward

remember Bobby Orr also had bad knees

why does it feel like we're getting sloppy seconds and they're getting the one we let get away

It doesn't really tbh. Unless the Pens get a goalie Muse is going to be looking for a new assistant coaching job in 2-3 years. There's no reason to think anything will change with the Penguins. Not to say I dont think Muse is a good coach but this seems premature for him to get a job and Im not surprised Kyle Dubas is trying to get cute.

We really don't know what, specifically, Muse was responsible for here and I think the fawning over he and Peca was just based on the "not a retread" vibe. The team certainly wasn't good.

Definitely gonna wait and see what happens before I bemoan a big loss.

eh, i feel like a bunch of the kids were taking steps forward under them last season. Definitely less so this season, but Rempe looks like an NHLer now, Cuylle looked good, Edstrom feels like a bottom 6 lock for years to come, etc.

The Rangers are getting a Cup winning coach who will have instant respect in a room that just quit on a guy they didn't respect.

If they respected Muse, they sure as shit didn't show it.

As far as the pick and Gavin McKenna, never have so many words been written or likes given for 3% shot at a 17 year old left wing.

Necas couldn't break a ppg playing with one of the best playoff performers of all time just a month ago (who himself had a very productive series.) I think he's the right kind of player but not the right player as some guys just don't have it. He and Panarin are cut from the same deck.
Is Rantanen the right kind of player? He was one everyone was salivating over for the first 1.5 series but how about now? As games got tougher in later rounds he laid a huge egg so probably not the right player (for the amount of money he is about to start getting).... This place's opinion is based on what you have done for me in the last two weeks.

The other point is that it sounds great in theory getting a teamful of players who play the right in playoffs and stay away from those skilled players that has a reduction in their production as games get tighter. The problem is that if you constructed the team this way - you should also consider that playing this way for the length of the season takes a huge toll on team. In my mind the previous iteration of Presidents Trophy team was just that. This is my reaction to posts that say "no thank you" to essentially anyone not named Tkachuk. IMO whatever cost permitting of course but Marner, Robertson or Necas would be a welcomed addition.

Rantanen is 6th all time in playoffs Pts/gp

He’s very much that guy.

Panarin and Necas have a track record of underperforming. Let’s not lump them together for the sake of it. There’s a big difference between a bad series and what Panarin and Necas have done.

What good Rantanen if he couldn't score a measly goal in the last nine games and let Dallas once again die on the way to SCF never making it. Pass

While doing this fun (depressing) deep dive:

Panarin’s been a plus player in the playoffs (1) time in his career and it was his first season as a Blackhawk. +/- is a useless stat but that’s just hilarious.
