Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

After reading about his healing trip to India I’m not convinced he’s remotely smart enough to know if he were 100%.

Signing him makes literally no sense.
Toews was one of those who admitted he had no idea how escrow works and why his pay cheque looked the way it did. He is not the brightest bulb of the bunch

Yes...it was a good read . I have not really followed the case and I had figured that they were all guilty.....but it looks like they will be acquitted and if so all UFA 's I assume ? So why not....MacLeod is a heck of a player and was a thorn in the Rangers side a lot . I'm not familiar with the other guys .
Carter Hart was an up and coming goalie for the Flyers who performed extremely well when called up. Dube's name was familiar, but I can't recall anything about him. Cal is Adam Foote's son. Never heard of Formenton and don't remember McLeod.

Really? McLeod was the best besides Hart and played for NJ, I’d figure any Rangers fan would remember him. Tough to play against, very fast, feisty 3C with some hands. A more physical version of his brother in Buffalo. Formenton also looked promising in Ottawa. Similar player to McLeod. Hart started over 220 games for Philly… not sure what you mean by played well when called up. He had already established himself as their starter with multi-year 6M contract and had some minor injury problems.

Re Hart, what I meant was that he played well when he first came to Flyers which resulted in the starting job and the contract.

Not for nothing, but Zibanejad has out scored Panarin by 11 points in the playoffs during the time where they’re both been on the team. When the chips have been down, 10 has been a way bigger issue than 93.

McDavid outscored Panarin’s 3 NYR runs by 10 last year alone.

Lastly, if you don’t think McDavid or Draisaitl ever go into the “hard” areas id suggest you watch a bit closer. They’re 3rd and 4th all time in playoff points per game, you don’t do that by strictly sticking to the outside.

Yeah no, you misread or misunderstood...

They're going to get off. It's disgusting. Bleep everyone of those players.

I mean… if you’re reading the news as it comes out, her case is awful and she was older than the players involved at the time and is on film requesting and offering certain things… I’m neither the judge nor the jury, but I wouldn’t be so quick to condemn the players involved either. Group sex isn’t a crime. And while some of the players were underaged, the woman in question was 20 and, again, is on film offering and asking for things. I’d either advise following the case or withholding judgement.

The gap between the vets and everybody else was pretty large. Vets took a giant step back and the rest of them didn't accumulatively make up for it with a step forward.

Panarin doesn't skate like he did 2 years ago.
Zibanejad doesn't skate like he did 2 years ago.
Kreider doesn't skate like he did 2 years ago.
And the man-on-man system probably made it even worse for them.

Somebody has to step up. Whether that's somebody new. Somebody coming back from trading a vet or somebody in our system.
And yet you can count on one finger the better skaters than Kreider on this team.

That says more about the rest of the team than it does Kreider

Also, Kreider's upside capability when he puts on a burst is no longer anywhere near what his typical skating is through a game nowadays.

If I really had to argue it though, a ton of guys on this team skate a lot harder and more consistently do so than Kreider does.

I literally don’t care what the Rangers offense looks like without Panarin. I’m beyond over seeing what it looks like with him putting up 100 point regular seasons only for him to be a compiler in the playoffs that doesn’t actually push the team anywhere past disappointing conference finals bids.

Time to go in a different direction.

What do we think a Kreider trade would look like anyway?
Deconstructive, for the purposes of salary.

Hard to know exactly what Kreider's value is because when he's on he's such a unique player, but the value may have dropped with concerns about his age. He could, still return a haul.

The St. Louis Blues have a number of guys on LD who could slot in well in the Rangers top 4 for 2-3 million less than what Chris is currently making. Depending on if it's a younger or older guy, we or they would add.

Upside younger player that hasn't been able to break through with a later pick, or meh player that cost less with a 2nd or 3rd attached depending on the player

Leafs: Robertson + 5th, or like Jarnkrok + 2026 2nd

Colorado: Jack Drury + 4th, or like Colton + 3rd

Something like that

Have to think about what teams Kreider could have on his NTC of 15, probably the destinations people don't want to go to like Utah, Calgary, Winnipeg, Buffalo, and then also places he wouldn't personally want like Monteal

Based on reputation, I can see Kreider getting a first and a prospect. Based on reality, I can see anything from 1st and prospect to the value of 2ed and fringe 4th liner, Buchnevich type of trade). I just hope Drury does not mess this up. Proven consistent playoff performer should raise his value, no??

Is there a deal to be made for Rossi? Trade board said Minnesota wants a late 1st. Would anybody trade the 12th pick for Rossi? Maybe even include Kreider in the deal for a bigger package? Kreider+12 for Rossi+Lambos+Hartman+late pick? Not sure of their prospect situation and how the cap works with this deal but we basically trade Kreider's deal for Rossi since it says he wants 7 mil. Idk how much Hartman makes and we also get a young LD prospect who i don't know shit about so yeah. Just throwing an idea out there.

Lineup would be:

Panarin-Miller-Zibanejad
Cuylle-Rossi-Lafreniere
Othmann/Perreault-Trocheck-Hartman
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe/Brodzinski

I have no clue if this works with the salary cap. And the defense is still shit. Kreider+12 might even be an overpayment so maybe make the deal even bigger and get a better asset back.

Chris Johnston discussed Chris Kreider on his pod a few days ago. CJ has Kreider at the top of his trade board at The Athletic. It seems there should be a good market for Kreider even after last season's performance. He can still score goals and his contract isn't an issue. He still has high end speed bursts. He is an appealing player.

Many of the Rangers "top" players are smaller players. A few of them are small and slow which is a bad combination for playoff success. Small D are an issue.

Brad Treliving discussed changing the Maple Leafs DNA a few days ago. The Rangers need to change their DNA. They need to become tougher to play against. Not just a few players sprinkled here and there. They can't have one line playing differently than the other three lines.

Rod Brind'Amour said the NHL game is simple. Get it in deep and forecheck. Now there people here who will recoil at the thought of all 4 lines playing the same way. The Panthers 4 lines all play the same way. Pucks deep. Forecheck. Sasha Barkov's line plays the same way as Tomas Nosek's line. Florida plays thst game better than Carolina. The Canes have smaller players than Florida. Carolina plays that swarming style where every puck is shot on net. The key is to limit the 2nd and 3rd shots. Give them the first shot and take away the other shots.

Kris Knoblauch has the Oilers playing a simple game. I hope Edmonton wins the Cup. Kris Knoblauch. He was in the Rangers organization. Chris Drury went with Gerard Gallant and Peter Laviolette. It says something that both guys didn't get another coaching job this spring. There were a thousand jobs open. I remember someone telling me Laviolette would get another HC job this spring if the Rangers moved on from him. Jimmy Dolan owes Peter $4.9M this season.

People say Knoblauch has Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Other coaches failed to win with both players in Edmonton.

I'm sure it's all been discussed, but..
1) Why did Sully cling on to the Pitts for *that* long?
2) Could we just kept Gallant (not Quinn, thank you) while waiting for him? Cos it looks as if Drury's been doing just that.
3) As someone wrote here, coaches job mostly to shout and goad the players, Sully has the reputation of being one of the XO ones as well. So the last years at Pitt you couldn't really say whether he was effective given their roster. What if his XOs aren't that good or just don't work with our roster? We'll be in a spot of trouble then...

Nope but the odds Drury throws the towel in and accepts that the team will be worse next year are almost zero. No matter how much we want to rebuild (I'm also in this camp), he's fighting for his job and Dolan doesn't believe in rebuilds.
I agree that he's keeping the pick, but he just signed a long extension. He's not fighting for his job, as much as he should be or we wish he were.
