Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I know most on here are not big Schneider fans but I am not trading a guy who has been reliable and hasn't missed any games for another guy with concussion issues. We just traded our best young player because of this and I am not willing to take a risk for another guy with concussion issues.
Every team needs guys to fill out the bottom of the lineup. As long as Schneider can be a solid 3rd pair guy who maybe can spot-fill in on the 2nd pair, that's great IMO.

It's equally fine if all he is, is a 3rd pair guy. Again every team needs to fill our their roster top to bottom, and the goal is (or should be) to have solid players throughout the lineup. Not every player has to be forced into bigger roles just because they've stayed on a team for more than 2 years. I feel like it's a typical expectation that players are supposed to move up, otherwise they have to be traded because then they're looked at as bad players because they can't play above their skill level.

If they are good on the 3rd pair, then it should be just as good to keep them there and find a guy who is capable of playing against stronger competition.

I think Drury needs to be a bit more aggressive when it comes to finding a partner for Fox or another top 4 LD. I'm not sure if throwing all these mid guys together is a good idea and it makes it harder for Fox too. I mean Fox-Miller worked right? We just need another legit top 4 LD if we put them together

Miller - Fox would be okay. I just would hope Miller can get back to the 2023-2024 form.

I do think Schneider still has some upside. I just remember the 2024 playoff run where he started showing some offense to his game, and it was a big change for him and made the defense a bit more dynamic. He reverted back a bit this year after Borgen came in, so I wonder if he feels like he's on a shorter leash.

I think Jones is a goner, unfortunately, which is a shame because I don't think he ever got a real chance. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being a good option for another team. He's what I thought a guy like Tarmo Reunanen would turn out to be--small by NHL standards but fairly mobile with a good feel for the game, maybe average defensively, but some offensive upside.

I agree. I think a new staff will help the defense out. Not sure what the last coaching staff was doing but i refuse to believe our defense is that bad. At least i hope it's not.

RB gatekeeping 6-1 vs 6-2 is peak. He’s turning into a girl on Tinder before our eyes.
Size and strength are so important. The Rangers are always getting their brains beat in every time because of the same issue. The Flyers ran them over in 1997. LA ran them over in 2014. TB in 2022. Florida in 2024. They keep losing to bigger teams and the Rangers keep building the same teams at the most important times. ECF. Stanley Cup finals. They can't get into the blue paint and they can't keep their opponents from the blue paint. Other teams are able to build bigger teams. The Rangers like the soft Euros and Americans. The perimeter players. Not the mean and tough guys. The fancy guys who like the no look passes and shy away from any contact. Florida puts on a clinic on how to forecheck. They play a mean and tough game too.

We lost in 2014 because AV is a moron

i hate AV but we got absolutely f***ing manhandled in that series, no coach was changing the disparity in physicality/talent between those two teams. only reason all those games went to OT was Hank
We had leads and blew every single one of them. That's not getting "manhandled", that's having a shit defense and a coach who turtles. Stop with the manhandle bullshit.

No on Byram. risk too high, cost too much

Something around bread at half with an add for bischel

The big risk reward move is LaF for Reinbacher.
Rein has had issues w/both knees, but Bobby Orr also had knee issues, and that was 5 or so decades ago, medicine has improved.

Rein gives size and speed. Options if schneid or Fox are sold high

Byram, God bless, no reason to think he's a dick, so no desire to wish ill on him.
He IS playing well. But knees up to a point can be repaired. Concussion is a whole dif level of damage.

Someone said Zib to ANA for Zeg +

Zib can be a fit and they may be willing to move Zeg now while he has mo term if the offer is good enuf. Don't see them paying top $ for this/next season Zib like he commanded way more 2 seasons ago.

Zib also a fit at half in LA. Yes, I said half, accept it.
I see Zib more open to Kings.

Schneider + Zib at half + Emery + Sykora
for
Byfield + Helenius

Berard to highest bidder CHI, desperate to add speedy W to make Bedard happy
like Berard + lesser picks 2025 for better picks 2025 and 2026

Shesty to highest bidder
Fox highest bidder
both assume overpayment is enuf

look into Kleven and Pinto from Sens

somethin like dat...
You are not getting Byfield for anyone less than Fox or Shesterkin. You could offer Perrault, Othmann, Emery, Garand, Schneider. LA would still turn you down. Drury is not trading either.

Agree, no on Byram. Keep Schneider.

Just saw Kreider at Whole Foods in Darien. Rocking a Rangers T. His left hand was in a brace. He looks bigger in person.
He had a crazy bad year injury wise. Back issues multiple times, vertigo, then the hand. Not surprised he looks bigger un person.

Id say physicality and speed are very important. You can be missing one but it is hard to play/win at this level if you are missing both of them.

disagree, but still earns a like...

so I think this hinges on the following premise...
Ks have greater concern about Doughty immediately falling off a cliff than Kopitar.
While mins/production will further reduce going forward, they can get 2 more quality seasons out of Kopi.
They urgently need Schneider
They have good pivot depth.
Zib at half = scoring RW, but is further contingency depth.
Emery is a quality D prospect
Sykora could compete bottom 6 incl pivot soon, and 2C potential in 2-3 yrs is not beyond what is conceivable

This also gives them room to keep Gav b'c you are moving Byfield's 6+. They NEED to do that.

So yeah, it is very tough to swallow, but if there is enuf on the table, and there is enuf youth coming back, they have to seriously consider profit in this deal and trade Byfield

The pieces coming from NY work for La

People on this board wanted to tank the 2014 season after 2-3 weeks. AV somehow got us to that finals. We weren't talented enough to be there imo.
We weren't talented enough to be there but yet we got there and had leads in like half the games? I mean, ok lol. Are people on this board actually fans of this team? That team wasn't amazing but they weren't a lottery team either, holy shit

These Zibanejad proposals are comical. The guy flat out said, pretty much, "f*** off, I'm not going anywhere".

The Rangers are not retaining 4.25M x 4 years for a guy that's productive. We're better off keeping him at wing, spare 1/2C if someone gets hurt, etc... and, oh yeah, he has COMPLETE AUTONOMY as to where or if he wants to go anywhere.

Sykora is now 2C potential? Since when?

Byfield isn't going anywhere.

I think people have to prepare for pretty much the same team returning next year. I can see them maybe trading Kreider but idk. I'm not sure if they want to tear it all down with Panarin having 1 year remaining. Is it the right move? Idk

I'm never in favor of tanking. That thread looked ridiculousness. I loved that 2014. I thought I was going to have a heart attack with all those 1 goal OT games. With any luck that was a 4-2 series but we still lose.
