Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Trading him at this juncture is crazy and should not be done in any reasonable circumstance. He moves his feet which I'm more and more convinced is the single most important attribute a player can have.

He’ll never get a fair shake because Drury traded Kakko for him. Double whammy for salty fans

The ideal defenseman for fans is Lane Hutson attached to a time machine.

He can be forever 21 years old, score 65 points, be a speedy midget who can't defend, and never has to get better and sacrifice offense for overall play. Any deficiencies you can just say "he's only 21!". Perfect.

He's listed everywhere as a LW? The Rangers have LWs coming out of their ears. Who cares.
Panarin and Kreider will not be taking up the LW spot, eventually. Cuylle has been playing both. Gabe has played both. If you can grab a free asset for nothing but cap hit, you go for it.

What does Ryan Donato get in UFA? 28 years old. 62 point last year in just over 16 minutes of ice time per game. He isn’t devoid of a physical game either.
Too much? 2/15? 4/24? Hard to say what the cap increase will do but he did the looting in a riot thing this year and most teams know that.

That's a good first step on paper.

Still need to move Kreider for cap with what either would get, and sign a 3C with money we'd have to find some other way.
If Money is tight I’d prioritize LD and either have JTM, Zibanejad and Trocheck at C while finding RW from scraps / internal pool.

Interesting question. Kind of a dangerous area of contract. Will the 30 goal 60 point season be the new normal or just a contract year outlier?

My memory is drawing a blank. What looting?

I read he turned down something like 3 years $12 mill extension from Chicago.

Go get Howard. Simple as.
And play him where? Our current lineup is already stuffed to the point where we are either not playing deserving kids or we have to move vets out, or make a trade where we send 2+ lesser players for 1.

Just going off daily faceoff:
Panarin-Trocheck-Perrault
Othmann-Miller-Lafreniere
Kreider-Zibanejad-Cuylle
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe
Berard-Brodzinski-Parssinen

Even if you traded three of these 15 players for Howard, There isn't a consistent spot in the lineup for him or you are scratching someone here.

5 years of Disneyland is some kind of very strong motivation? Where do you come up with this shit?
be objective, yeah it is
He's got a little girl, like what, 5-ish?
If he loves her very much, having Disneyland that close IS motivation.

You get more w/honey than vinegar
I read all kinds of shit here about he's gonna be forced to this, that.

Other than the stick of sitting him every fuggi game, there is no pressure to make him go

But an inducement to go to a comfy relocate coupled with that threat might work

have an open mind...
I expect such a poor reaction from @FoxysExpensiveNYDigs
I expect better from you

On bad teams someone is gonna score. He also ~doubled his shooting % over every other year in his career, without that he scores 15 goals like every other year. Mirage.

Me too. I just don’t think that’s the direction they’ll go in. Mika did play decently on Millers wing which is more than we can say for anything else he did all year.

I’m very concerned at the prospect of the third line becoming a black hole again with Parssinen at the helm. Our fourth line is shaping up OK but it should never be relied on for more than 9 minutes a game, which is why it’s so essential that we don’t end up with a listless leftover 3rd line with Berard, Parssinen, and some other dude.

Having Mika on the wing and another good center is the idea situation because then with an injury you’ve got cover, but as you say cap may make this impossible

Not sure he has it for NYC. This is asset management.

For NYR not much.

This is not CK hate, it's asset management.

100% teams will pay for Kreider. He's got big value aroud the league imo.
Yeah no downside in trading Kreider at this point beyond sentimentality. He should fetch a nice return.

I don't exactly want to move KAM, but with the way the league values young defensemen he could fetch a ton possibly. I like him a lot but he seems to be somewhat lacking upstairs.

It would just be a matter of "can Drury not f*** up the deals" for these guys. I think his trading record is a mixed bag, so who knows. I have more confidence that he could move Kreider for an appropriate price. Miller I worry he'd sacrifice futures for some random guy that's so-so but the team has liked for a few years.

He’s the type that some team would overpay to sign as an UFA and might regret it. Maybe Hawks did not trade him because they might resign him before July 1. Shocked he was not dealt to be honest.

The only possible downside is that if he had a hypothetical bounce back year to 35 plus goals he’d be worth a ton more in a trade, but to be honest that’s probably not worth the gamble, especially with young wingers that need minutes.

And I think a lot of teams around the league think this was a morale thing, not a decline, which will do a lot for his value.

Heck I’m not advocating for this as we will need cap space, but Kreider at 3.25 mil is probably worth what we traded for Yandle. Start with a first and good young player and add from there

What riot did you previously reference? Were you speaking figuratively or literally?

I agree about the 3rd line scenario so to me Zibanejad should stay at C and as I said find a winger (which subjectively I think is an easier task). LD must be the priority.
