Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Svechnikov love is recency bias at it's best. He kicked the shit out of the Devils, cool.

The Devils are f***ing awful.

This reminds me of how some people were whining that the Rangers didn't make a run at Domi a few years ago after he scored twice against the Bruins in a game 7. Almost positive he went with out a goal the entire series against the Rangers that followed and that those 2 goals in g7 were the only 2 goals he scored for Carolina that entire run.

I remember him getting run over by Trouba. Thats as notable as he was in the Ranger series.

There was this old fantasy football commercial where someone foolishly picked "The fancy wide reciever with an attitude problem" over the best available running back, and that's how I feel when I see you guys pitching Svech/Marner.
I'm confused about which one's which in that analogy. Regardless neither of them solves any problems for this team.

It's pretty clear which one is which if those are the choices. The one criticism of Marner, and it's a valid one, is that he shrinks in the playoffs, but the dude is great at everything.

I agree Marner is much better, but I would never compare him to a high end running back whom I equate as a workhorse.

My point stands however, neither guy is what this team needs. Although I would trade Laf for Svech if that deal was on the table.

Just putting this out there, (not sure if Zib would allow it )but maybe this years first rounder, 11Th overall and Zib to Detroit for Larkin?

If we do not have faith in #11 then that is a interesting deal. I know nobody likes to trade 1st round picks but it depends on what is available in the draft. I would prefer Zibs and something else but I would not reflexively say no. Dylan is a proven 30 goal 70 point center. Are we likely to get that at #11? I would also consider just the #11 for Dylan and then try to trade Zib on his own for draft capital in return.

Sully will have to go looking for it.
Exactly. When does Laf start getting the reputation of being a coach killer like Mika and Kreids do? 13 has worn a C at every level, has pedigree of being first overall pick, yet had his greatest disappearing act on- and off-ice this season when team desperately needed some leadership and guys to take bull by horns. His '24 playoff performance was an aberration.

*Broken 30, and also you decided to throw out "pace for". It's a bit funny that the conversation didn't involve you, but as soon as you saw a Zibanejad post, you came running.
Even going by broken the 30 goal barrier you end up being wrong.

You said he only broken 30 goals twice in the last 8 seasons. He scored 30+ goals three times during the last 7 seasons.

What is funny is that you and others interject yourself in the discussions I have with other posters all the time. You, yourself, just the other day felt the need to involve yourself in a discussion I had with another poster just to dunk on me for having the math wrong by 0.00031.

Hypocrite much?

Where was that version of Laf this season?
and i'll add this: where was that version of laffy vs the devils during those playoffs?

i just hope that the next coach doesn't regularly play cuylle on the 3rd line because of this guy. based on the stat progressions that i've seen i could see cuylle be an all star within the next couple of years.

I don't think I'd break the bank trying to get Svech but I think he'd be a good addition, would be interesting to see if there's more to him outside of Carolina's system, but even so he's still got good goal scoring potential

Larkin really isn't any better than Zibanejad.

Zibanejad has some holes, no doubt about that, but treating him like he has negative value is wild.
I agree that Zibs does not have negative value. I have never said that about Zibs and almost never about any Ranger. I disagree that Zibs is as good as Larkin at this point in time. Based on last season Zibs may have to play RW to be effective. I think it is safe to say Zibs has been in decline at age 32. Larkin is 28. Larkin brings speed that we desperately need. I think Zibs value is a 2nd round pick based on age and contract. I think Larkins value may be a top 10 pick.

Larkin really turned heads at the 4 Nations. We would be miles ahead if Detroit was dumb enough to trade him here for Mika.

He may not have negative value, but you can be sure as shit that any potential deal involving Mika would require us to retain salary.

Laf hasn't done squat away from Panarin. And with Panarin potentially leaving, then what? Drury should be fielding offers on Laf and assessing his value across the league. 1LD has to be a top priority. Sergachev would also look great in a blueshirt.

Larkin isn't being traded for a single top ten pick...his return would be closer to what Eichel got, A first rounder, a roster player & a prospect.
