Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Is anyone here actually saying they want Bennett in any strong way? It’s all projection from a certain sect of posters
There are several posters salivating over Bennett. I guess you have missed the posts where they pencil him in the line up and justifying giving him 8+mil of the cap.

The less optimistic I become that this team will be able to be competitive the next 2 seasons the more invested I become in making sure that we develop our one organizational strength- young wingers, for the next hypothetical window.

Guys like Othmann, Perreault, Berard, Cuylle NEED to all be with the Rangers permanently next season surrounding our established centers. I'm willing to give the Mas approach a spin- force these guys into roles and hope it brings out the best in them. That's a healthy mix of grit and skill from those guys. Rempe and Edstrom both look like they have solid 4th line potential as well. Can't believe I'm saying that about Rempe but when he uses his reach he does actually bring a dynamic that can be challenging for even NHL defensemen. A bit jealous, I could have taken some pointers from him about how to leverage his size on the offensive side of the puck.

We can come away with more Ryan Callahans and Brandon Dubinsky style guys from this group. I'm just more and more on board with trading Lafreniere for a guy like Owen Power, rather than trying to upgrade him to Tkachuk, and build a more meat-and-potatoes wing group like the Pens had for years.
I'm not that pessimistic, but I'm 100% with you on the vision. Cuylle, Othmann, & Berard play HARD. Edstrom and Rempe aren't "potential" 4th liners, they are "kinetic!" Even guys like Sykora, Chmelar, Roobroeck are all high motor players if they make it.

I'm big on the "Callahan's & Dubinsky's." If that becomes our team identity, then awesome. This actually ties back to the Bennett topic. You love to have guys like him, but you just can't pay them at 29. If we had a 25yo Bennett at 3C right now and flank him with two pests, we'd be so annoying to play against and have a much better outlook.

This has to be the way. You need a hardworking foundation of homegrown guys first. I also don’t want to hear about that groups perceived lack of upside until we see them actually play at the NHL level consistently. Laf, Cuylle, Otter and Perreault need to get ice tine where they can play offense. Berard, Rempe, Edstrom need to be on the ice and not scratched. Sykora, Roobreck and Laba could all break through next year. There’s upside within the group even if people can’t see it.

The Torts thing is real because our owner loves him.

I don’t know that he’d be HC, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he were to return here in some advisory capacity

I do not know how much stock I put in that for a few reasons.

1. The owner today is the same owner that was here when we fired Torts.

2. We have hired coaches multiple times. Never heard anything indicating that Dolan wanted Torts.

3. Torts has been fired in 3 spots after we fired him. He was out of hockey for years. Never heard anything that Dolan reached out to discuss any kind of position with our NYR after any of his firings.

Can we clone Paul Maurice? The Panthers look even better this postseason. It's almost unfathomable how 'easily' they've handled the Lightning and Jon Cooper in the playoffs since Maurice got to Florida. Their D are huge, mobile, can handle pucks, and just maul you. Suffocation all over the ice. What a team. Why didn't we sign Niko Mikkola again?

No he is a NHL retread. We only want coaches who have never coached in the NHL before and have no proven results. :D :)

The problem with this is still the lack of high end talent in top six. We don't have any in the system & there's nobody available in FA that meets that need. Marner is not that guy. Eichel may or may not be, but even if he makes to FA, his better days may be behind him. McDavid is the dream, but the likelihood is small.

Anything involving 13 going forward is a losing proposition.

I don’t doubt he has some talent. I also don’t want him on my team. under any circumstances.

Cut bait, immediately. I don’t care if that’s Power or another piece in return.

And 79 is right behind. These are losing players.

13, find yourself a nice small Canadian town. 79, off to San Jose or Anaheim or wherever you want to continue your instagram reel world.

I could see Bread-JT-Laf as a very solid second line once we have McDavid centering our first line. :)

I don't get why folks are anti-retread. This organization just hires the wrong ones (AV, Gallant, Lavi).
Many coaches would love to have the top end results those 3 got as Rangers coaches. Cup final and 2 conference finals. They were not able to seal the deal but we never really had the best rosters.

I think they need to try to add upside at forward for sure. Kandre would be a trade piece noise for that. They have to figure out what to do with Laf as well.

I'd rather not get into the personalities of the players. I don't know them and I've never interacted with any of them and interaction is a funny thing. If your one and only interaction is to catch someone on a bad day or they're distracted by other shit........well? I have to ask myself would I go out of my way to meet any single one of them? ........and the answer is probably not. I'm not much for schmoozing.

I imagine Drury's going to purge at least a couple more.....and one will be Kreider. I don't have a big issue with moving Kreider. However much he was hampered by injury he had a shit year. I think he can still be a good player for somebody so I'd very much would like a decent return for the player. If we were to move Mika who also had a bad year----and yeah I guess it's great that he was able to pad his stats towards the end when the season had already gone down the tubes. I think he'll be harder to move just because of the length of term still left. But we'll see.....

I really don't get the 'we got to punish them' vibe. No you make moves not to punish but to improve the team or at least to get a new look that doesn't adversely effect everyone else. Should we trade Laf? or K'Andre? but what are we getting back? I don't exactly want to wait for futures for players who are on the front of their careers. So younger NHL ready players or already developing top prospects and not necessarily draft picks is what I'd aim for with players like those two.

I'm skeptical of Drury too and would not have extended him......probably would have fired him so there's that too.

wait for the Oilers to fire Knoblauch
hire Knoblauch
give this years pick to Pittsburgh, tank by every means necessary
get a top 5 pick next year
sign McDavid
That's a lot of steps for Knoblauch to coach McDavid. I feel like he can do that right now if he wants to.

Still think they should try Laffy at Center.

Panarin JTM Zibs
Cuylle Laffy Gabe
Berard Tro Othmann

that's more depth chart than lines, but it works

fixing the defense is the biggest issue... an actual top4LHD with some actual talent needs to be added. There's no way around it.
That is terrible. Rangers would lead the league in fewest goals scored.

To be fair...

1. The owner today is the same owner that was here when we gave Tortorella his first head coaching gig and then let him go, only to re-hire him nine years later.
2. Torts hasn't been available, the windows haven't lined up like they are now.
3. See #2.
