Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Bridging K'Andre to UFA is kind of a stupid move. The guy has probably a healthy sum of trade value, and NYR are in an absolute disaster defensively without him on the left. I also hate him stylistically as a player more than any prominent NYR defenseman since Ozolinch, and I still think this.

You kind of either have to trade the guy and get a LHD back in return, or extend him for 7-8 years. This in between shit isn't gonna work for anyone except Miller.

NYR should consider moving Schneider/Borgen to the left permanently if Braden takes a step forward after his injury recovery, but that's still less than ideal. We need a (Good) blanket to play with Fox (Like what Emery is projected to become,) a Miller/2LHD-Schneider/Borgen 2nd pairing, and a PMD-Borgen/Schneider third pairing. That's two new LDs even with Miller here.

Go get Gustaf back from Detroit for free. Vaak becomes the 7th where he belongs.
yes on KAM
no on Gust
when he was here, he was solid half a season then fully ran out of gas
coupla seasons older, he must have even less in the tank

Its the bern way
yes, yes it is, but again
bern >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
stupidity of not developing due to win now bs
capitulate to that fact

Why would we want Knoblauch if he shows he's incapable of winning it all on a team with McDavid/Draisaitl?
Especially when he walked into a system already in place, benefited from them using it, and then looked like the hero after they dug themselves out of a hole they were too talented to be in. If they fire him, I wouldn't give him the keys without being an assistant coach here first. I'm not saying he can't be a good coach but the track record isn't there yet and the last thing I want is another 2 year life-span coach.

Oilers scored less 5 on 5 goals than we did. That's not because of poop goaltending.

People are angry at Zibanejads contract but are salivating over bringing in Bennet who will easily command 8.5-9 mil for his next contract.

Sam Bennet in his best season reached 51 points.

This place is insane.
Speaking for myself, I just want a player who gives a shit. That's the difference. I'm sure Mika cares in his head, but he can't seem to translate it on the ice for months at a time. Just give a shit is all I ask for and 90% of the team seem to just give up when it gets a little tough.

Players can give a shit but not get overpaid contracts.
Bennett is gonna get an overpaid contract.

No I get it. The Rangers just have players who don't seem to give a shit and are overpaid, haha. I'm just saying I understand the want for Bennet.
I mean, if all you guys want is inferior players who passes the "vibe" check then fill the team with bunch of players from the minor pro leagues.

That way we dont at least have to pay 50 point 3rd line players 9 mil/year.

Serious question and not trying to be an ass, but why do you feel the need to keep sticking up for Mika?

Mika was absolutely terrible for about the first three months of the season. Yes, he got better in the second half of the season, but I cannot unsee what he did during the first half because it was that bad.

It's not personal. I want to like Mika and would gladly post about how great he is if he goes back to being a PPG+ player, tries to play defense and battles for pucks.

I'm not sure Sam Bennett is the answer because he will be expensive. However, this team needs a culture change that emphasizes battling for pucks and leading by example. Guys that look like they actually give a damn. Yes, we need scoring, but Mika does not bring enough of that to make up for his other definicies I just mentioned. If he was putting up 100+ points, I could overlook a lot of the other stuff but he's not.

This wasnt really me trying to stick up for Mika.

I am just tired of the dubbel standards and hypochrisy running rampart. The Bennett dick riding being the latest.

Yeah, like i get wanting a guy like Bennett who does...things, and looks engaged, but that contract is a disaster waiting to happen. I'm expecting 8+ on the open market for a guy who's passed 41 points just twice. Alexis Lafreniere's wildly disappointing 45 point season would be Bennett's 3rd best season of his career.

I just got the sense that your posts over the past week or two seemed to have a theme of sticking up for Mika when other people posted negative comments about him. If I misinterpreted the situation and nature of your previous posts...my bad.

I just got the feeling that you didn't like people promoting guys who are more "hardasses" (for lack of a better term) over someone like Mika. Not just Bennett, but JT Miller was another. I'd like Bennett on the Rangers but probably not for what he's going to cost. As for JT Miller, while I'm not crazy about trading someone that age, I think it was a reasonable gamble to take on someone who has the potential to be a leader while also being able to put up pretty nice point totals.

Not a chance in hell Florida does that lol
I mean all things considered Florida probably would make that trade, but only because of their particular circumstances. Mika could be a follower there and let others who are the actual leaders on their team (Tkachuk, Barkov, Reinhart) lead and set the tone and fill those roles whereas here he himself is one of those main guys who is supposed to be leading and setting the tone himself. Sadly, that's just not who he is.

Umm.. the Tampa way didn't result in any kind of crash and burn. It led to a reaction so far away from crash and burn that the player was more than open to returning when the opportunity came up. It didn't create any kind of divide between the players still on the team and management. So no... the end result is not remotely the same beyond the transactions themselves. This isn't a video game, so the results don't end there.

Riiiiiight. So McDonagh was ecstatic to be on a shit team in Nashville instead of being in Tampa Bay and being basically forced to go there or risk being on waivers and going to an even worse team? Got it. And then has the opportunity to go back to a playoff team or go golfing in Nashville. Really tough call there.

If these players (Mika & Co.) were on TB there still would’ve been a divide because they’re soft as a babies ass AND somehow feel like they should have input into what the GM is doing or behaving.

See: Rantannen and how Mackinnon & Co reacted to that. They were professional and business like and moved on instead of caving in their season over how “nice” the GM is.

This is more about the weakness of that group than it is about Drury being a prick.

Don’t insult me with the “video game” reference. The person being more realistic, and business like, in this discussion certainly isn’t you.
