Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

John Tortorella? What a joke. Let’s just handcuff the franchise to another few years of outdated, ego-driven nonsense. Torts is a dinosaur—loud, arrogant, and completely ineffective in today’s NHL. His tough guy act is a cover for the fact that he’s got no answers. He’s hostile in every press conference, treats questions like personal attacks, and brings a circus everywhere he goes.

The game has passed him by. His so-called “process” is code for stifling young talent and flexing control. If the Rangers are serious about building a future, they should trade Perreault this summer before Torts buries him in the bottom six and kills his confidence. We've seen this story before—same coach, same results, same wasted years.

Enough is enough.
I agree enough is enough, but we've had

Lavi
Gallant
Quinn
AV
Torts

and none have handled our youth correctly???

So it's the GMs?

It's the Pres?

It's the ownership?

Rotten through & through. Nothing will cahnge

Again we should sell high on Berard
Berard + a 4th + 6th
to Chi
for 2025 OR 2026 2nd

Need to keep Bedard happy
he's waaayyy faster than others
Berard is a fit
sell high
take the profit
we need the picks upgrade

I get the concept of selling high on Berard but he's a NHL player now. A 2nd is not an NHL player. I think Berard for a 2026 2nd is a good deal. Adding a 4th + 6th? Or getting a 2025 2nd? What's the point? Drury would just trade it away. If you are dealing Berard, do it for a better player the way JTM was acquired with Mancini.

During a prior coaching cycle a former Ranger told me "Dru hates Torts with a passion"

It's never happening

yeah if we could get more, of course go there
I would also jump at a 2026 2nd nothing more either side
I did not want to overvalue the asset, and while I agree he has broken thru to NHL player status, he has not been here long enough to get top top return
Also have to consider CHI is forced to view him as a short term asset with MAYBE longer term upside
Marty St. Louis was exception to the rule about short guys,, b'c he skated w/a center of gravity that made him difficult to knock off balance despite being undersized.
We don't know that is the case yet for Berard, it may/may not be.
But no doubt premise is good, blackhawks want and serious need a speedy W.

As to extra picks etc just because Drury will trade them away
I can only be smart about acquiring/managing assets
I can't help if Drury will go more stupid win now
which I have correctly opposed for yrs

Laf was one of the few guys this season that looked like he did his best to commit to playing well even when he wasn't... People don't realize how difficult that is when the veterans that are supposed to be leading your team can't give two f***s. This kid is 23, people who are clamoring "why didn't he step up" after reading all of these blurbs about how this team is uncoachable and how this team can't get their heads out of their asses, what the f*** was he supposed to do? These problems are completely above his pay grade, all of it goes back to the rotten veteran core.
Spare me. 13 is atrocious and is one of the biggest culprits of dogging it. Dropping a couple F bombs doesn’t make your take legitimate.

Larry Brooks has had enough of Mika

Mika Zibanejad was never more in his element this year than when playing for Sweden in the 4 Nations Tournament in February.

There was a glow to him as he talked about sharing a locker room with countrymen who all spoke the same native language.
Zibanejad made the announcement on his Instagram page.

In Swedish, of course.

There is one team which has not one but three prominent Swedish players on the team. They also have Zuccarello.

Drury and Guerin know each very well. Boston area guys. Can they work out a trade for Mika? He loved being around his home boys at the 4 Nations and is running to play in the WC in Sweden after a shitty season.

Zibanejad to the Wild.

Panarin to the Avalanche. Go Stars.

Kreider. I know the Habs are probably on his 15 team NTC. They are probably the best fit for him. He knows everyone there. Gorton. Gordie Clark. Jim Ramsey. Rammer. All of these guys love Rammer except for Drury. MSL played with Kreider in NY. No Josh Anderson in return. The Habs made a terrible trade for Laine. They are stuck with him for one more season. $8.7M. Woof. Kreider would play in their top 6. Play on the PP.

Listening to that podcast was actually reassuring. Everybody can see how pathetic that lockerroom is now. It's finally at the point where the common opinion is that we need to make some drastic moves to transform this core.

It's been a long time coming. The Tampa series should have been the last alarm bell required.

One of the few young players we have that shows potential to be a very solid bottom 6 player you want to trade for a complete mystery pick?

And TB being nicer changes literally everything about how the players and teams reacted. It's the only thing that matters on this topic.

"Hey, you don't fit into our future plans because ________ so it's either X or Y or we're going to waive you despite years of service, should've won a Conn Smythe, etc.... " doesn't seem all that nice.

"Hey, thanks for being a captain on two cup winners and being the face of this franchise for a decade plus but your services are no longer required even though you want to be here for your entire career" doesn't seem all that nice either.

You know what it seems like? That TB is doing what's best for their franchise no matter how tied they used to be the leaders/core of their team.

Just like the Rangers.

The playoff thing is really nonsense. He's scored 2.19 pts/60 his previous three playoff runs. That's better than Rantanen, Kucherov, Marchand, Barkov to name some. In that same time frame he was on the ice for 17 GF and 7 GA at 5v5.

He had some bad runs early in his career and once you're given a reputation you basically have that permanently. It hasn't been true for a long time.

That's because of Mika's sparkling defense. ;)

LOL @ "the spirit" of a contract

My electrician said the job would be done in a month. It took 6 months

I say that violates the "spirit" of the contract

You would have a good point of the phrase didn't appear in the document governing the rules between the league and the union.

"Hey, you don't fit into our future plans because ________ so it's either X or Y or we're going to waive you despite years of service, should've won a Conn Smythe, etc.... " doesn't seem all that nice.

Just like the Rangers.

How many times must it be said that the difference isn't in the actions the GMs took to improve their rosters?

If no one actually wants the job, then give it to Peca. He was a no nonsense player and the team seems to like him as well as Muse. Peca head and Muse main assistant. Hire a couple guys to fill out the staff. Trade Kreider, Z and Panarin. Let the younger players take you there or not, but make it a point that you come to work to win and everyone pulls. You don't, you're gone.

You're welcome to have your opinion as well, but you can't be taken serious when you say their tact was actually worse. Like, what ?

It seems you're dying on a hill of threatening vs being a slime ball here. Call it a threat, call it being straight forward, call it whatever you want, the difference is the GM went to the player to talk about their cap moving forward. You can say Tampa didn't treat him right, but In no way can it be viewed as worse.
One team used the threat of waivers to coerce a player to accept a trade he had contractual protection from, and which the coercing team received compensation for. And of course “they talked to him”… how could they threaten him otherwise?
One team simply waived a player who they were completely within their rights to waive.
I’m not dying on any hill here. It’s pure fact I’m giving, not opinion. This is what each team did. Why should I care if TBL smiled while they violated the spirit of the NTC? That’s just emotional preference. Feel free to die on your hill of feelings.

NO NO NO NO NO!!! Trading for Kreider would be worse than Laine. Send him to the Anchorage Aleuts....ANYWHERE but Montreal.

Can we clone Paul Maurice? The Panthers look even better this postseason. It's almost unfathomable how 'easily' they've handled the Lightning and Jon Cooper in the playoffs since Maurice got to Florida. Their D are huge, mobile, can handle pucks, and just maul you. Suffocation all over the ice. What a team. Why didn't we sign Niko Mikkola again?
