Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

Craziest thing I’ve heard in awhile was Meeka in his exit presser saying the first few months of the season were the most difficult of his career emotionally. Legitimately why? Seems like his home life is great with a loving and supportive wife and happy and healthy child. I’d love to know why management moving out 2 albatross contracts made him give up for 40 games. Was he that upset about the prospect of Kreider being moved? Bizarre. Strip him of the letter he wears for starters.
Believe it or not, I think it's because the team sucked, and he had a down year.

I know he has warts but I don't think he cares that little about it.

Anyone for Jessica Campbell as head coach?

I don’t really buy the Torts stuff unless he’s coming in as a short term advisor until he get another HC gig. No potential coach is going to come in with that anvil hanging over their head.

Torts HC with Drury in the big chair is something I can get behind. Drury was the captain under torts until the knee injury ended his career. At least both guys seem to give a f*** about what it means to be a part of the Rangers. Many players, coaches, fans, etc. have lost sight of that since Gorton purged the last vestiges of the Lundqvist era. The 14 year old daughters of season ticket holders on Twitter have convinced too many people that Fuhrer Drury is a war criminal for telling these soft players to do their jobs.
They are a menace on twitter. And I'm not even talking about the Drury takes. "I'll kill myself if they trade Kreider", its constantly in my feed. I guess its a tag usage thing?

After having a night to sleep on this I have to say, I love it. I think Drury has done an average job as a GM - some good moves, some meh moves, some moves I'd reconsider if I were him.

That being said, this sends quite the message to "the room" that the uprising is over and, if you don't like it, there's the door and sign over here on your NMC

This absolutely HAD to be done whether you like Drury or not. They've had coaches up the wazoo, quit on a season over a hissy fit, and really haven't accomplished much of anything to deserve a straw in the drink.

Message sent. Let's see how it's responded to.

When they say some people in the Rangers organization like Tortorella, who exactly are they talking about? 2013 was a long time ago—who's even still around from back then? All the trainers are gone, the media staff has completely changed, and even John Rosasco is no longer there. JR was there forever.

Torts was busy insulting Sam Rosen after a game. This guy is an idiot. Dolan likes him. That's it.

He liked the way Joe Tolleson introduced him on opening night.

Maybe they like him in the way that I like him? I don't know him personally :dunno:

Campbell is interesting. Owned a powerskating school. Thats a plus. Haha. But the Kraken just extended her so doesn't seem like there are changes there. She was also focusing on offense and they went from like last to I want to say 16th or 17th. But again, not happening. Might even have a shot at the Kraken head job.

We do agree on it being a message sent, even if I think Drury deserved to be fired. Extensions for front office or coaches are generally meaningless in the NHL other than as expressions of confidence and guarantees of a paycheck. They don't really provide job security for more than a year or two. If you can use an extension to express confidence, you can also send another message with it. That's what happened here.

Did she handle the PP?

Because 5v5 they went from 28th to 14th.

5v5 scoring year to year can be voodoo though.

Yeah true. Truth be told, I'm not sure. I read an article that said she focused on the offense. That could mean the offense as a whole or just the powerplay, but the article brought up their improved output under her specifically and mentioned a better PP. Leads me to believe she was the offensive assistant coach.

And the powerskating stuff is good too. She was a coach herself and had a company for it. We could use some of that too. But again, if she gets a head gig I have no doubt it would be with the Kraken probably next year or the year after if the improvements keep coming.

Mika is going to play for Team Sweden in the upcoming WC this summer.

Rumor has it he demanded to be the one who picks the team.

I wouldn't really be interested in her as a candidate for this position because of the lack of data. 2 years as an assistant in the professional ranks is just not enough experience. Taking that into consideration along with the shit show that just occurred here and all the other external factors that would be working against her (lets not kid our selves, it would be a thing) and it's just a situation that would be set up for failure.

I have no doubt that she would request access to more useful shit than most or if not all of the uninspired lazy hire most of the retreads would be though.
