Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

I know this puts me on the outer with must, but I still have no real issue with the Goodrow contract. He was never going to finish it here, and it was always going to be moveable for the last few years.
Ideally it actually would have returned an asset, but he was brought in for the 'intangibles' and 'experience' which he seemed to provide (especially in hindsight with how it all imploded after he left) and we got 2 useful seasons and 1 useful post season from ot with out him blocking anyone l.

Just put a bid in for this baby!!!

Ok, i don't like the idea of Drury being back, but I will accept it if he fixes the development and scouting of nhl players. We can't keep trading players for teams 7th dmen and throw in players we never dress. Trade Kreider for a left d, trade Soucey, promote Robertson and see how that looks. Start the year like this, each line has a forechecker.

Cuylle Miller Lafreniere
Panarin Trochek Othmann
Berard Zibanejad Perrault
Edstrom Carrick Rempe

Miller Fox
New D Schneider
Robertson Borgen

Signing Goodrow to that contract was terrible, signing nemeth and having to give up multiple 2nds the next offseason is terrible, trading for Reaves was terrible, the Mika contract was bad if you had any foresight whatsoever. That’s just his first offseason, nevermind the fact he wasted so many assets trying to fill a RW void he created by trading Buch. That’s only part of his terrible decisions.
Outside of the buch move he really hasnt had any horrible moves that he was incapable of correcting. We havent exactly traded sterling assets at the TDL annually. Trading assets to go for it, is in fact a good thing. Like id rather have been to two game 6’s in the conference finals in 2022 and 2024 than have a couple bullshit draft picks.

Like take a look at vegas, tampa, colorado, florida draft capital. Basically non-existent and I think objectively wed all say 4 of the best run franchises in the sport

I don’t really buy the Torts stuff unless he’s coming in as a short term advisor until he get another HC gig. No potential coach is going to come in with that anvil hanging over their head.

Torts HC with Drury in the big chair is something I can get behind. Drury was the captain under torts until the knee injury ended his career. At least both guys seem to give a f*** about what it means to be a part of the Rangers. Many players, coaches, fans, etc. have lost sight of that since Gorton purged the last vestiges of the Lundqvist era. The 14 year old daughters of season ticket holders on Twitter have convinced too many people that Fuhrer Drury is a war criminal for telling these soft players to do their jobs.

Trading for Reaves is bad but I find it pretty hard to really get on Drury for that when we know that’s a move many GMs around the league would make. Another team took him on and then another GM signed him to a 3 year deal. These GMs all do the same stuff. You can bet Sather would have wanted him too. It’s not like Gorton was any different. He claimed and extended Cody McLeod.

There was a guy selling a Drury Rangers jersey on the street in SoHo back in the winter. And I was debating buying it just to throw it in the trash

But the guy wanted $200 for it and I said no chance chief and kept walking

Reports are surfacing that Mika called to congratulate Drury and thank him for the exceptional communication this past season. Mika was in the weight room working out when he called.

Craziest thing I’ve heard in awhile was Meeka in his exit presser saying the first few months of the season were the most difficult of his career emotionally. Legitimately why? Seems like his home life is great with a loving and supportive wife and happy and healthy child. I’d love to know why management moving out 2 albatross contracts made him give up for 40 games. Was he that upset about the prospect of Kreider being moved? Bizarre. Strip him of the letter he wears for starters.

Seriously, this was incredibly bizarre by Mika. He has to be one of the most mentally soft players in the league. Incredible considering he’s been in the league for over a decade and spent the majority of that time as a star player.

Did Nathan MacKinnon crumble when they traded his close friend and running mate without consulting him first? Of course not. And I’m not comparing Mika to Nate as players because that’s not fair to Mika, but I was my veteran leaders to have his mindset. Guy seems like all he cares about is winning, which is how it should be. Sucks to lose friends sucks to have trades go down but to let it get to you as much as Mika admitted this stuff got to him is just crazy. He really shouldn’t have a letter if this is where his mind is at.
