Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XX (WTF are we going to do this Off-Season edition)

He should've just quit, right?

Go on IR for two weeks? Four weeks? Sure, you want to be on the battlefield “helping” but if at some point you’re hurting the team and yourself, go recover. He’s a veteran and he knows better. I also feel like, regardless of the truth of the injuries, listing off your list of ailments tends to come across as being your own personal apologist and I understand wanting the fans to have some context but I also would like to see some accountability and leadership in his statements. Even if that’s just the standard platitudes about “we need to be more focused this summer… we need to come back as a group hungrier and better prepared”. Whatever. And maybe he said those things too and they didn’t get reported. I just didn’t love that quote the way it is reported. I know it’s nitpicking. I’m going to be nitpicky and frustrated towards this team until it gets better.

No. Absolutely not. Professional athletes are simply wired differently. Why we want them to be like us normal blokes I don't know.
Its more a management coach problem than a player problem. Players want to play. I get it.

But if the coaches and management know about all these problems, they need to take him out of the lineup. So i pin this more on Drury and Lav than Kreider.

That said, it sounds serious. He should retire. :sarcasm:

Don't really think you can blame Chris for trying to play through injury. 99% of hockey players are going to do that. It's on the organization to protect players from themselves.

The vertigo thing is... a weird thing to mention.

Not going to call him a liar because I don't think he is. But if it's bad, it would be a struggle for him to get out of bed (or even lay in bed), let alone take a shift.

What ever it was, it wasn't bad enough to keep him from playing. The level of impact that it had on him is something only he knows.

The back stuff was minor and got sorted pretty much immediately. Was clear as day when he mentioned it months ago and for some reason it became the rallying cry for his apologists and morons like Staple who wanted desperately to fulfill their deepest Islander fantasies.

The hand thing? Yeah if you need to get cut open, playing through it was dumb. Probably one of those things that wasn't going to get any worse by playing with it but he was a massive detriment the last month of the season so it would have been right to just call it a season when it happened.

So here's what I see:

I see an incompetent buffoon who acts like a tyrant as our president/GM

I see a naive, loyal to a fault, totally unaware owner

And I see a bunch of underperforming p***yes as players. "Wahhhh, my friends are gone. IDK what's going on. I can't do my job. Let me crawl into my safe space."

God's sake. You'd think Goodrow and Trouba were like their wives.

I can blame a guy for not making the smart choice. Instead of sitting out, getting healthy, and coming back to help the team down the stretch, he chose to play injured and contribute nothing.

No. You see he wanted to play to show everybody he quit on the team.
What's your endgame here, other than playing "NA NA NA NA NA NA"? We get you love the dude, but his season from a fan's POV appeared somewhere in the grey area of being injured & not giving 100% all the time. Either way, you're not going to convince the dudes who thought he rolled over & quit with your endless defense of the guy.

It's also way too soon for a victory lap considering how the season just ended & we have no idea if he's going to be on the team moving forward or if he bounces back & becomes productive. For the record I think he does bounce back for whatever team he plays for next year, but can you please just tone down the "gotcha" posts.

As soon as everyone tones down on him quitting.

You know what? I'm liking the idea of a Torts, Quenneville, Babcock hire simply out of spite. We have a bunch of sensitive douches in the locker room.

But my God, I wouldn't trust Drury to wash the dishes. He's a total f***ing buffoon.

Is Drury expected to take questions today or was his presser after firing Lavi his final words until the draft?
