New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

The whole Lamoriello clan needs to be shown the door.

Staple must be feeling the heat from his employer. He's usually not one to engage in 'start a rumor so you can be the one to squash the rumor' but that's exactly what he did here.....sellout.
That was my point not too long ago. He’s stretching things to generate clicks. The ‘athletic’ is click/engagement driven. He has to produce content and needs to drive the content - this whole Lou thing is ripe for doing that so he’s trying to pump the interest while it’s there.

It's sad to see someone shed their respect like this. Journalism is dead.....

And some people love to be outraged every 24 hours so it works well for them.

Gonna throw this one out there - lots of speculation that the Isles are waiting for a playoff round to end in order to do more interviews. But what if it's not an NHL round?

With Lamoriello seemingly still having Malkin's ear, could he be putting in a good word about Mark Hunter? Hunter was AGM under Lamoriello in Toronto, and left when they made Dubas the GM. Since then, Hunter has been GM for the London Knights, which he co-owns with his brothers. The Knights just won the OHL championship for the second consecutive season and fourth time in the last 12, with Dale Hunter passing 1,000 OHL wins as a coach.

Could we be waiting to interview the Hunter brothers? Ownership has shown that they are willing to put successful CHL executives in positions of power here, and Dale has previously coached the Caps. Yes yes Pierre Turgeon happened, it would be weird - but I don't think that will keep them from interviewing.

Of course, they'll now participate in the Memorial Cup... but that's a week away. Maybe there's time to work in an interview now that the season is over? Would Shanahan be open to working with Mark Hunter again? This might all line up nicely...

Most fans probably wouldn't bat an eye if they hired Mark, despite being one of the all time franchise villain's brother. But I can't see a Dale Hunter hiring going over with this fan base well at all.

But it is an interesting point that you make. Maybe it's not an NHL excec that they're waiting on.

I'm ok with dale hunter if he wins games and playoff games. 32 years ago he drilled Pierre pressure Turgeon. Albeit, I was pissed as much as rich pilon when he came leaping back at Hunter

It would be weird, but he does have a great track record with London. Still, I'd be surprised if they're dipping down into juniors for the big hire, let alone looking at Dale Hunter.

And hopefully not everyone missed the utter irony of a few cats around here "outraged" at Staple (for no good reason), but even funnier...Even when he's not posting anything.

I think there's been way more outrage around here by the cats who are buying what Staple is peddling. Or did I just dream all of the "See, Lou is staying!!!" stuff. Again, I'll be outraged when something actually happens, in the meantime I'll just be skeptical of the info we're getting.
