Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

He’s okay. I trust him way more than Zadorov.

I feel like they really need to knock it out of the park with who ever they grab though. Of all the names mentioned here and have been mentioned publically, Power is the only one with the potential to do that and I wouldn’t trust this staff to be able to bring it out of him.

If there isn’t a name that we don’t know about available, probably smarter to just wait until the summer.
Buffalo is too chickenshit to make a move like that right now. They will wait till the offseason to do anything. Buffalo tries to be so calculated in all their moves because they are too scared to make the wrong one that their fans will hate. Then they end up like they are.

How many players who scored 40 points last year signed for 1-1.25M as a UFA this year?

I'll answer it for you. Zero. The only one close was JVR who is old, slow, and bad defensively.

How'd you like it when we tried that move last year with Blake Wheeler?

How many 3rd or 4th liners were playing in the top 6 a lot of the year to justify a stupid trade?

It's funny you say this because I know for a fact Goodrow was willing to work with Drury to find a landing spot. But he never heard back from Drury until he was waived. I also know from people who played with Drury way back at Prep that he was always extremely arrogant and rubbed people the wrong way. All this mutiny seems so overblown, especially the stuff you said about the team wanting Laviolette fired.
I'm not talking about Goodrow, this all started prior to the draft. There's a lot more drama from the trouba trade attempts this summer and the fallout from that. If the trouba trade happens the Goodrow things happens differently. And you are 100 percent correct about Drury. He is in many ways an arrogant asshole but also in many ways that can be what is needed with this team/owner/environment situation.

Some people prefer that method. Personally, I do not and prefer aggressiveness. If you know the history of the league, the ballsy moves pay off. Even in recent history the Eichel & Tkachuk trades took teams over the top. That's why I would like to see Drury take a swing here, the world is his oyster. I know he's a baseball player, but idk if he wants to take a walk when he's up with the bases loaded.

OK, well you seem to have some inside info and insight so I accept that Drury apparently is not a monster. I guess I’m one of the few who is tentatively siding with the old core, in that I believe all his moves could have waited one more year, and that perhaps we would be in a much better position to win the cup this year, seeing there doesn’t seem to be a super team, especially in the east. I appreciate your time.
No worries. And I will 100% acknowledge that many other executives may have gone about this in a different manner and maybe with a softer touch. I'm not saying he was co.etely right with how this happened, but I do think people underestimate the environment that had developed around the team. Also breaking up a core like this is usually a process on its own so there are multiple things at play

How many games has kreider missed this year related to his back? How much value do players have with back injuries? I think people are overvaluing potential return if they move him. Reality is that he's a special teams specialist with limited 5v5 value at this point. On a good team he's a 3rd line and special teams guy

The trade would likely have a conditional element to it. Extra pick if he plays a percentage of playoff games or something

Him and Goodrow on the same team lol

That’s extremely valuable imo. He’s still elite on special teams

If he actually plays. Again, how many games has he missed this year with back issues? How often do back issues go away for mid 30 year old hockey players? Especially those that take years of abuse in front of the net? Back injuries are massive red flags

I don't know squat about Soucy, but aren't we now back to having too many D?
Technically yes, Vaak and DeHann just chillin around

I hope it isn't Jones that is moved

K'andre in a big trade now would be a wild move

As to Soucy, he is a big f***er that plays the style of game that Drury likes for his reshaping of the team. He has always been kinda meh, but has been having a particularly down year - granted, that is in Vancouver. I wonder if JT was asked about his views on Soucy's play this year.
