It actually seems like this is the year Lou pulls the trigger and tries to retool.

With that being, timing is everything. Jersey may be out of the mix, a few teams have already made moves and guys like Crosby and Marchand are potentially being dangled. You don’t want to get too cute here and get caught in a game of musical chairs without a seat.
Well said!

Random thought. How have the Calgary Flames managed to remain in the 2nd wild card spot this long? There is no compelling argument to make on their behalf other than the fact that the bottom 4 teams in the Western Conference are absolute trash.

Isn’t that generally how the Isles sneak into the playoffs annually by being the best of the have nots.

The prices for Dumoulin and Smith have been very juicy.

Lou could change the entire outlook of this team's long- and short-term future by tomorrow afternoon.

If ever there was a time to sell and a market to be a seller on, it's now...

Absolute masterclass...

Unbelievable!

SJS - who was PAID a 2nd rounder to take Walman off of Detroit's hands - now turns around and gets basically the same thing Colorado just paid for Nelson in return.

Of course, when you stink and have tons of cap space, you can do this kind of thing all day long but it sure looks realllll good for Grier.

Cholowski trade?

This guy was added:

Since Bridgeport is playing for literally nothing right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Islander line-up at some point.

hopefully a replace for Fasching.

Can I dream that this guy is another Carter Verhaeghe? And we keep him this time? :sarcasm:

Wow, that is a lotta picks.....But Curious - using picks strictly for drafting....How many of each rounds draft picks translate into top 6 players?....or top 9?.......should this not be how possible acquired picks are rated? On average, if i say top 9, i have to figure no later than the third round?...top 6, second round?. Yes, some nice 1st and second round picks, but also a lot of picks for bodies?

PuckPedia has some pretty good analysis on draft pick value. There is also a great blog post from 2022 on the Sound of Hockey blog. https://puckpedia.com/PerriPickValue

I’d imagine a handful of these will be used to trade for roster players. That’s why having assets is valuable

On a side not about Puckpedia. Why the hell did the Caps owner buy that nhl cap sight. He had so know the second they left somebody would just come in and provide similar information. I have to think he had some foolish idea that if he bought the site the information would just go away

I believe it’s 16% of 2nd rounders play an NHL game.

That’s a lot of picks, sure, but it’s what someone does with them. Based on Dubas work to date with TOR and PIT, he’s terrible at using them. There’s just a lot going on to mask it.

16% would be like 5 guys. My guess is it's more like 16% play at least 100 games because I am guessing at least 1 game would be much higher

Just randomly picking a recent draft in 2014 18 of 30 picks played at least 1 game, 11 played at least 100 games, 7 played at least 300 games and 4 have so far played more than 500 games
