Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just have a really good feeling about it. I think he has the skillset and style to make any line he's on better.

By himself, in a vacuum, maybe he's not a top six producer, but he's gonna be like a Hagelin where you put him with skilled players and all of a sudden that's one of your better lines.
He needs to be with Panarin and Trocheck.

Go get puck. Fetch

That’s a big boy add if true

They could add clauses to the NMC. Performance based?

Gourde has fallen off a bit (hurt now) but Bjorkstrand is great.
Metrics are still great but yeah... that's essentially adding a very strong middle6 line. Gives them arguably one of the best top9s

The Lightning might have an outside chance to run it back, but they're gonna run into the Panthers round 1.

If the season ended today, 5 out of 8 first round matchups would be series we've already seen in the last two years. I hate the NHL.
said it yesterday.... they need to bring back 1-8 seeding.

it's boring to have the same matchups over and over again. I really do not want to play Carolina again. It's just not that enjoyable

Not only is the first round a bunch of re-runs, the absolute inevitability of the second round is even worse.

It would be Carolina or New Jersey again. That's already pretty much set barring an extreme shift in the standings.

And even if we caught Jersey, that's just Carolina in the first round and then Caps/Devils again in the second round.

All the more reason to continue adding. These aren't juggernauts. The Metro playoff teams are just more of the same that we've seen over the last 3 years.

The 1-8 matchups as of today:

NYR v WSH (it's just unstoppable no matter what system you use :shakehead)
CBJ v TOR
NJD v FLA
CAR v TB

CGY v WPG
LAK v DAL
COL v VGK
EDM v MIN

The West would be completely fresh and it would spare us EDM v LAK for the 97th year in a row. The East would have two pretty good, pretty new matchups. And Toronto would get somebody they might beat!

Yeah it sucks ass from an entertainment perspective. From the perspective of "somebody has to win this garbage," I do see the path.

The Metro is unmitigated horse guano.

I mentioned yesterday rosters that just don't pass the smell test on paper.

You can't tell me this is a contender. It's white rice with raw cauliflower.

It's why I've been outspoken about the season not being over, and that the path to the playoffs wasnt impossible. The only Metro team that has even been competitive with Tampa Bay and Florida over these last few years, is the Rangers. Now we don't have Trouba, Lindgren or Goodrow weighing us down. No rentals obviously, but this is no longer a punt season.

The Rangers are 6 points back of the Hughes-less Devils with 2 games in hand. 3rd place isn’t unthinkable but I’m not sure you’d want the Panthers in the 1st round lol.

I mean, the Metro is doable, and in a scenario where the Leafs got out of the other bracket...

You guys know where I stand on this roster, I'm just saying, that's the league we're in. There's a lot of chicanery to be had. The East in particular has been hit hard by extreme parity.

This is all provided that the Rangers had Fox for the playoffs. They're not beating god damn anybody in 7 games without him.

He'll be ready by then. I know goalies dont matter but if the Rangers improve their 5v5 play, and Igor gives us what he historically gives us in the playoffs, we're right there. And if JT can give us the physical matchup center that Mika hasnt been able to be, That's another huge weakness mitigated.

It was VERY poor. If they could have swung a trade to move up and grab a Sedin brother that would have been the move. Havlat probably the most valuable guy after that and he went way late.
Fond memories of “Jesus” Jillison.

Everyone on the board at that time wanted to trade for him.

2004 double draft as well. Spent #6 on a Goalie. Took Korpikoski at 19 and NJ took Zajac at 20.

Especially terrible since they had already drafted Henrik 4 years prior. I guess they didn't know for certain what they had in Lundqvist yet, but it makes blowing 6 OA on a goalie even worse.
2004 - not to mention an abysmal 2nd round (partially saved by Dubinsky)

Back around 2012 to 2015 the main boards loved to beat their chest about how much better the West was. That was just LA and Chicago, and all the other fans of Western Conference teams tried to take credit for it.

That's true now. If Florida goes into the playoffs without Tkachuk, probably my top 4-5 teams are all in the West.
