Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Looking back at last year against Florida. Fox's knee is banged up. I'm not convinced it's been an issue with him all year---that he did not or did not have or take enough time to really rehab it enough. He got married and that might have got in the way too. In that series I think the Rangers coaching staff had options they could have made that they should have made. For instance Edstrom instead of a wobbly Chytil or Wheeler the one game he played. Rangers got knocked around a lot and a healthy Edstrom might have helped. The defense banged up as it was Ruhwedel and Jones in for Trouba and Lindgren....at least they were healthy.

If the Rangers had had someone like JT then too---might have offset Barkov a whole lot better than Mika did. We've been watching a better Rempe lately too. His work cycling down low in the attacking zone is getting to be pretty good. He hangs on to the puck. He gets it to other teammates or out to the defensemen at the point. His balance is better and he can move.....and then no one has to tell him he knows enough to go to the front of the net when he doesn't have the puck.
I think Foxs knee has been an issue. Not a pain issue or anything like that just a recovery time issue. You see it in other sports as well. Guys come back from knees but they aren't 100% back for 1-2 seasons. Lots of what ifs looking back. I actually think we were closer vs Tampa 3 years ago than vs Florida last year. That was our window but I think that window closed. Now we have to look forward to our next window. Hopefully its sooner than later ☺️

I don’t see the Rangers trading Kreider, but a guy like that with a term like that would be pretty attractive if we were true sellers…which I’m not convinced we are.
It's time. As much as I hate to say it, he's probably a huge part of the culture problem.
Not moving krieder, panarin, and or zibanejad is just keeping the same old guard. Same core that’s quit, same core that couldn’t make it.

You have to move on from krieder this year or over the summer. He is part of the country club bullshit.

A lot of players going in and out but none are the true issues on this team
Mika has got to go. His window with this team is dead, and he will only decline faster every year.

I'm all for a rebuild at this point! President's trophy to out of playoff contention is too much for one off-season. The core is rotten, and it must be replaced!

I am in fact a cop, and I am also a mod so if there were such a thing as mod police, the answer would be yes x2. Again, hilarious. Maybe just be less dismissive in your initial response to @NickyFotiu instead of (and it’s not just you, it’s the new trend here) being smug and dismissive as if he’s a poster who has no clue what he’s talking about. If it’s annoying when I do it, trust me, it’s still annoying when you don’t realize you’re doing
Maybe post better if you want people to give a shit about your rambling screeds

posting here sucks but it always has and people have always overreacted and been wild about it. You’re responses aren’t any better. No one gives a shit about you

That you decided you needed to interpret my post a certain way and go off is a you problem. So f*** off

e: to be clear, your response to my original post was wildly inappropriate and out of order and you've derailed threads multiple times now with this stuff. Figure your shit out

You definitely have a point but you could see levels of skills in some guys that just looked a level above imo.

I think it's just...hard to tell. It seemed to favor the guys who could really skate and play up tempo, but NHL hockey isn't always like that, and Jack Hughes, one of the best skaters and creators in the NHL, struggled.

On one hand, yeah Miller and Zibanejad and Kreider are not on the level of McDavid and even Matt Tkachuk, but NHL hockey over a long season and long playoffs is often not necessarily about having the best player available, but the whole team playing up to their level at the right time

that also said, this group needs something more for sure as well. So like...eh, 4 games in a random tournament isn't enough for me to make a lot of hay about, but the team obviously isn't top caliber here either this year

Bowen Byram saw that he was being pimped here and immediately decided to forget how to play hockey.

On the real, the Sabres are such a f***ing mess. I don't know how the Rangers lost to that team twice.

Yeah Im not saying the tournament was the be all end all for who will win a cup. Just saying that the difference in skill levels really opened my eyes. Yes a lot of that was skating related but as pointed out Jack Hughes a great skater didn't excell. I thought Barkov looked good for reasons other than speed. After watching the tournament I came away thinking we do not have a top 15 player.

The level of personal attacks being levied about recently is….weird. This is an anonymous message board to talk hockey…
I think Loki had a point in that we all can probably tone it down at times, myself included. The other night a poster thought I was arguing with him and I had no clue I was coming off that way. Sometimes its tough because you can't hear tone of voice online. We should be cool with each other as NYR fans. Save the bashing for Flyers and Devils fans ☺️

I still can't believe orgs are still hiring Lindy Ruff. They will go Gallant next.

What could a deal look like to pry Ferraro or Walman out of SJ while retaining on Vanecek.

Jones/Othmann/Retain 1.7 mil?
Jones and Emery for Walman

do us a solid Grier

I also think Drury is aggressively shopping Kreids

I don’t think he wants to wait until the summer if he’s got certain packages he’s looking at.

From an another GMs perspective it’s awfully tempting to bring in one of if not the best net front PP players in the world for not one but two postseason runs.

That’s worth a lot even with his ailments. Every team thinks they can fix a player.

Could definitely see some conditions tied to the deal, If they are within the confines cba. Games played. Rounds won. But I know some of those rules were adjusted

I think people here are greatly undervaluing Chris Kreider and how much he could return. potential 50% retention on top of it. Almost all playoff teams would have interest.

go ask vancouver and edmonton fans what they think of JT. i'll give you a hint: he made McDavids life f***ing miserable last year in a 7 game series. Not saying he's on the same level as a hockey player - obviously - but he is a stud and he can be brutally effective. We have not had that look too much recently - Laf was kind of that way in the playoffs last year and look what we gave him for it.

Is Walman really that good? Giving up basically a first and a 3rd for him?
He’s solid all around and cheap/controlled for next year. Would look good next to Fox imo

Jones is not long for this team.

Emery…. I might have more points than him, id have to check.... No, he has one more point than me this season. I understand he can play a role but the right side is also booked for a while.

Yeah, he’s under contract and not a pure rental. 1st and 3rd is about right. Wouldn’t be surprised if another team beat our version of that (Jones/Emery). 6’1 218, skates pretty well, on pace for 50 points with an extra year at 3.4M? A 1st + for a 50 point D at 3.4M is always going to attract teams.

I know that rounds won is still in play as a condition, not sure on games played but I'm pretty sure that is okay as well. The condition would likely be rounds won as that seems by far the most common these days.

If Kreider is traded I highly doubt it would just be for futures. I imagine an undercontributing younger player and either a 1st outright or a 2nd that could turn into a 1st with a playoff round win or two. Identifying the right team that fits is a harder part. I'd think almost certainly out west, especially because Rangers appear to be looking to reload next year, and just about 100% certain that no canada teams will be permitted due to Kreider's limited NTC.

Dallas, Minnesota, Vegas, and LA make the most sense based on that. Interesting pieces in all those but Vegas that I could see working in some fashion.

Something to consider re: future draft choices. The 2025 draft is considered very thin, especially after the first 12 picks. The Rangers trade protection in the Miller trade reflects this. The 2026 draft is currently viewed as very deep. That might alter what some teams are willing to trade.
