It's becoming a little funny/ironic constantly reading "find someone to play with fox" the same way reading "find a rw for Mika and kreider" for years. It was constantly the fault of all the right wingers until people finally accepted the twins were the issue. Now the team is better without kreider (on and off ice) and mika's role has shifted as a catalyst to some success.

Interesting to see some of the core that has been an issue finally be out of the lineup and just a different vibe around the team.

Who needs Kreider and Smith.

There could be a lot of sellers this year, especially amongst the "might make it" group. The prices seem about right at the moment, but the availability could make it a buyer's market as we get closer to the deadline.

I'd guess one of these teams. But is Drury open to trading with Detroit, Columbus, or Ottawa considering we're battling them for one of the wild card spots?

Columbus
Detroit
Edmonton
Florida
LA
Ottawa
Vegas

So basically Vegas/LA/Florida/Edmonton.
No way Rangers trading them to teams they are tied with in the standings unless they are blown away with the return

I think Fox is a fantastic defenseman and one of the best in the league but yeah also I feel like he's maybe part of that group that had success and got a bit complacent in their play. They gotta keep playing with some intensity and that's the probl;em they've had all this year (and other year at times)

e: I tend to think they're not gonna go all in selling. I think they'll obviously move Smith and Kreider's on the block but I dont' think they're also pressed to move a guy like De Haan unless they get a great offer. I don't think he's in the plans long term but I don't think they're all interested in squeezing a 4th-5th round pick out for him either. Same with Carrick

I do not see why you wouldn’t still trade with them. It’s about getting the best return for a free agent to be that no longer fits with this team. Move him, get back a couple picks

Agreed but lets say Edmonton offers you a 3rd and Ottawa offers you a 2nd and you are basically tied with Ottawa for the last playoff spot Drury probably deals with Edmonton.

I mean are the Rangers the only team that is gonna keep the fans around the NHL entertained with trades?
Anyone gonna pull the trigger on a trade?

Can someone explain the Chris Kreider situation to me? Longest tenured ranger who has been part of some great ranger teams. Has had big moments in the playoffs and seems well liked by teammates. He never seemed to be a locker room problem or distraction. He’s turned himself into an all ranger.

With all that said, it was always weird to me that he never got consideration for team captain. I also know he’s has a down year this year, but it seems like a lot of people on these boards have turned on him and are eluding to him being a major issue in the locker room. Is there something that I missed? Can someone explain to me where this stuff is coming from on Kreider.

We all know Smith is going somewhere. I don't think any of the big names are going anywhere yet (summer moves more likely.)

What are the chances we see something completely out of left field before the TDL?

Edmonton 3rd is basically a 4th and Ottawa 2nd is a middle of the round 2nd. We're talking a difference of probably 40 selections or so? You trade with Ottawa all day. Giving them Reilly Smith doesn't move the needle for them anyway.

He was offered the captaincy and turned it down. I don’t think anyone would have ever thought he was an issue in the room, but at times this season it has begun to feel as if the team has been more engaged in games he’s missed and that his “bromance” with Zibanejad caused them both to underperform. Whether that’s because they were too busy sulking at the leaked trade rumors or because they became too complacent and focused on having fun together rather than competing hard, I have no clue what the theory actually is, even as a Rangers fan. All I do know is that we’ve all sort of noticed that despite seeming like a hard working guy for all these years, he also seems to be the president of the country club culture our team suffers from. It’s a weird dynamic to really navigate and make sense of. I don’t know if it’s “I work hard but only on MY terms, so if I don’t like the coach or the way he rolls the lines, or runs the practices, or the GM and the way he treated my friends, I’m going to check out” or what.

All I know is that his actions and attitudes this year have mostly caused these feelings and this new narrative themselves, and he hasn’t done himself any favors really, on or off the ice this year. It’s also just hard to argue the results; everyone looks like they’re skating harder and playing more engaged hockey without him in the lineup. Difficult to explain really. Even him turning down the C in the past. All in all, a bit of an enigma.

If a team would take on all of Kreider’s contract it wouldn’t take much for me to move him
Yeah its feeling like the best return on the trade will be that kreider is no longer here.

I cant wait for this day.

If kreider isnt traded, just shut him down for season. No need for him to ever don the jersey again.

Mika looking so much better that he isnt playing with him.

Maybe I’m confused about what “moving the goal posts” means, but me saying ‘why do we have so many NMCs’ (which was never actually what I said, just how you’re representing it - read on before a response, please? I’m being fairly calm, polite and rational) and being answered with a generalization about all clauses, and then following back with ‘great, I asked about NMCs’ is very, very literally me keeping the goal posts firmly in place. It was also, from my very first post, ‘why aren’t we getting better salary suppression out of the NMCs we hand out since we’re also a place so many players WANT to play’. Other posters who didn’t want to answer the ACTUAL question I asked came back with responses like “we have a normal number of clauses” which led to the “okay, but I was specifically asking about NMCs” side quest that took place. I’ll let you go look - MY first post on the topic was very clearly “if we’re such a desired place to play, why don’t we get as much bargaining power out of the NMCs we hand out compared to other teams who are supposedly less desirable destinations”. It was never unclear. The responses were conflated, the question never changed. Maybe one of the reasons I get so abrasive is that when I ask a very clear question, I get condescending answers that aren’t actually addressing the question.

When I say “if NY is such a destination, why don’t we do a better job exchanging NMCs for better AAVs, as in the case of some other franchises” and someone dismissively says “we have a normal number of (all) clauses” in response, maybe that’s why my subsequent responses get more and more agitated. You’re (not you) mischaracterizing my entire question and acting like you just gave me the most obvious answer in the world, like I shouldn’t have even been silly enough to ask it. I never asked how the number of total clauses on our roster compared to other teams… your (not yours) answer is completely irrelevant, and yet I’m being characterized as the dumb one when you (not you) aren’t even displaying reading comprehension with the response you’ve given. It’s sort of annoying.

Also, Full-NTC or NMC, Buch is a good example of teams getting salary suppression on a good player. No one has even attempted to explain how Fox (saying it’s a good contract - which it is, I’ve stated that, and it’s aging well with a rising cap - but it’s not RELEVANT to the question I’m asking or the discussion of the moment in time that it was signed) only wanting to play in NY and getting a half million bump over the only comparable player at the time is a discount. What was Fox going to do? Sign somewhere else? And then what? Demand a trade to NY?

Fox’s contract might be fair, but there’s no salary suppression or discount at all. Slavin is a star player giving his team a deal because he wants to be there in exchange for security. Again, I’m not criticizing Fox or even saying that his contract isn’t great value now. I’m not trying to say he’s some jerk for not giving us a huge discount like Slavin did. I’m only discussing whether DRURY effectively negotiates the best deals. That’s all. I’m not picking on any of our favorite players. I’m not saying Fox is overpaid or doesn’t deserve or isn’t worth the cap hit. I’m just saying with quite a bit of leverage at his disposal, did Drury REALLY get any salary suppression? We’ll get to Trochek in a second.

Igor’s contract is an abortion. And as far as Trochek goes? As I said previously, the SAME posters saying he gave us a discount today were saying “gross, the term is insane, I hope there’s no NMC” when the deal was signed. No one expected him to come here and have 2 career years. Saying it’s a steal now is PURE revisionist history when he was coming off of a 51 point aeason when we signed him.

That’s your first post in the Trochek signing thread. Here’s some from our friends:

And a pretty rational one from some idiot:

querulous and memeful though you may be, you're not an idiot. what do you think the reason is that we pay full value and give clauses?

I'd say 60% chance that Drury wants a bigger out of left field move, but the odds of it happening in less than 25% because it takes two to tango and many GMs have extremely cold feet for doing anything but rental deals at the TDL

Drury wants players with term
