Speculation: Roster Building thread - Part XVII - (TDL is March 7th)

Clarke likely won't be traded and I'm not sure Gavrikov staying blocks him. Gavrikov is a lefty and Clarke is a righty.

Berard and Jones played really well last night. Sure against the predators. But it just highlighted how badly mgmt and coaches have handled these guys this year. Jones leading the team in TOI after being scratched most of the year is damning. At least we don’t have to watch Reilly Smith and Zibanejad try and play on a line together ever again. How many months of that shit did Lavi need to put us through

100% agree the Rangers should target 2026 picks when they move Smith (and potentially Kreider). They restocked the 2025 picks sans the likely 2025 1st which will end up going to the Pens.

2026 is supposed to be an extremely deep draft.

Would love to see a regular 3rd line of:

Othmann - Parssinen - Berard

For the remainder of the season

Heard the opposite, I believe McKenzie said it was a very weak draft. Should be stocking up for this draft.

edit - Nevermind he said it for this draft. Agree then going for 2026 picks.

I don’t know if it highlights how bad they’ve been handled. Berard has gotten seasoning in the AHL and he’s developing and hungry. If he played the whole year in the NHL he’d prob wear down. Jones I agree but teams don’t like having 2-3 small D. Lindgren gone helps Jones get some ice time

Jones won't be here next year, my guess he's gone by the deadline. Him getting the most mins of anyone last night was a showcase imo.

Jones led the team in TOI because they had five powerplays and the game was a blowout after two periods. He was last in even strength ice time through two periods.

George - possibly greatest slide player ever - and Chicago's Terry Kath are my highest favorite axemen

True, but him turning into a scumbag is a dif thing from his guitarsmith skill

like Carrick, but yeah, w/you, would deal him if return high enuf, he's real productive, awesome value
think he goes for a 2nd
if not, we add a 5th or 6th to get a 2nd

1. there is no shit to discuss, Sherlock b'c isolated current blip on Meeka does not make up for what he did earlier w'o any just reason, and fact his def and effort continue to suck
whoop de doo
he's upgraded from severe ass eating to raw suckage
Zib's peeps should not brag here

2. (a) be close minded and have peeps on ignore at your own risk
(b) there is no argument
it is subjective opinion, multiple preferences are cool

Am time crushed atm but pls convo/pm me in a wk or so

We hope so. ? is less if he eventually waives and goes, but if we retain/how much [max ok] and what is the return? Let's just move forward here...

better, not good overall
his def / effort is still unacceptably horrible

yes
return of quality youth >>> self renting

Fine fallback, prefer we are 13oa or worse and keep our pick this yr

quote a song line:
"feelings
nothing more than feelings"

1. not smart to needlessly move assets discounted
including ck
2 columbus not interested in ck, imo

NO x 2
CK too injured to = acceptable risk
bread is too perimeter for them, DAL is a better fit

tro, Berard, Jones, Robertson
for
Clarke, Dvorak, Helenius
2 months of good play is not a "blip on the radar" for Zib. You continue to ignore his play because you are scared they will trade your pet Kreider instead. Sad really.

Mika has been good since the ball dropped. That's just the reality of things.
I never said he wasn't. Quite the opposite actually. I've acknowledged multiple times it's nice to see him resembling an NHL player once again. Still doesn't change my feelings that he shouldn't have a place on the team long term, nor does it mean he's capable of driving a line on his own.

The reality is that they're both probably going to get moved sooner rather than later.

Its not a one or the other situation.
Maybe. I still contend Zibanejad bouncing back is the best thing for the team. You aren't going to get enough value back and create another hole at Center. The UFA center class is very underwhelming. Zib is also a much harder contract to move. We have wings waiting to replace Kreider. No center prospects to replace Zib unless you believe Laba has top 6 potential.

It IS a blip in the context of the whole season, AND a few extra pts lately does NOT excuse the constant lack of effort, shyness avoiding contact, and deficient defense.

Capitulate to admitting that reality

Only coupla games ago, he egregiously was lax on the boards leading to first goal vs us
I correctly called him out for being the loser he is, and his most ardent supporters 'fool' to do so.
Such truth remains fact

Not quite
Kreider has a legit reason to be subpar this season
zib has less than none, b'c he intentionally bailed on us

we should usually sell high on assets
ck can not be sold high now
future remains to be seen

ditching zib = addition by subtraction

but setting aside for a moment all the bs he did that deserves ostracizing him
he's not good enuf for us to win w/him anyway

you don't try to force squares into circles/vice versa
deal for best return you can get, regardless of position
eff win now take more picks/prospects if possible.

we have lots of holes. let's not tie our own hands here

Will be a shame if they trade Jones especially the return won't be great.
Let him play serious minutes and pp1 while Fox is out
I know he has his defensive flaws but it's actually fun to watch a dman who can move

The Rangers arent going to sell low on him i dont think. He's got an RFA year or two left. He can bluster about not playing but it doesnt appear to have hurt his development. He's got an opportunity, time to run with it. Rangers needed the depth on D.
