Yes, the people who think that trading a guy with four top-5 Norris finishes in four seasons is out of the question are the ones with the vendetta.
I do not think any Ranger player should be out of the question. Very few players in pro sports are untouchable. Do we have a top 5 player in the NHL? A top 10 player in the NHL? We should not make bad trades but we should be open to any trade that we feel will improve the teams future. Boston traded Espo coming off a 127 point season. I think he had led the NHL in goals the previous 4 years. They looked at his age and felt he would slow down.

No one will ever convince me that wasn't all Dolan.
It definitely was. There are some propagandists that will try to convince you Dolan had no idea who Patrick Kane was as if an owner of an NHL team wouldn't know who Patrick Kane is while he's winning 3 Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe trophy.

Hell, you wouldn't need to have anything to do with hockey and you'd know who he was just based on the rape accusation from a few years ago.

A Fox trade would require an upgrade at the same spot. It's out of the question.

I've largely checked out of the Fox discourse because it's brain damage inducing but the gap between Adam Fox and a high end young defensive stud like a Dahlin or a Sanderson is gigantic. The top 3-4 D of Fox/Makar/Q. Hughes/whatever 4th D I might be forgetting are simply in their own tier in scoring and play driving.

this is the primary reason, I think, there's so much hesitancy with trading Fox. The "replacement" doesn't exist in any league that has been scouted to date.

The Rangers would trip all over themselves to trade any Rangers player including Fox for a top 10 player regardless of position imo. Do you really think we would turn down a deal for McDavid, Mathews, McKinnon, or Leo because it does not upgrade the defense? I'm not looking to bash Fox but I am curious where would you pencil him in the NHL today. Not 2-4 years ago. Top 5 player? Top 10 Player? Top 15 player? Top 20 Player? Top 25 player? Top 30 player?

Fox is a top 5 defenseman by pretty much every metric over the course of his career.

we are not SO good everywhere else that we can turn down upgrades across our roster

For future reference I'd like to understand where RB's demarcation line lines. Is it 6'1", 6'2" or 6'3" - 6'5"? 200 lb or 210 lb? Unquestionably it must be a round number or the program will begin self-destruct.

Fox is not in the same stratosphere as Makar/Hughes. I like Fox very much, but for people that don't see that he's slowed down very much, from even a couple of years ago, either don't watch most games or are Fox lovers...He's def not worth $9.5M the way he's currently playing

not to entertain your nonsense but upgrades don't exist in a vacuum. trading Fox for Draisaitl gets us an amazing F talent but now Braden Schneider is our top pair RHD which is nothing short of catastrophic.
disagree x 3
1. "nonsense" = get real
2. Schneid as top RD = catastrophic = again, get real

3. you are not addressing the core pt
we DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH HORSES
WE NEED MORE COWBELL
We have to add
and since we STUPIDLY did not listen to me and had way too many rentals

if we can get enuf value add this way, we have to do it

I do not look at metrics much but I do believe Fox has been very good in his career overall. What about today? Mika was good for years. So was CK. Bread was great last season. This season all have declined.

I asked where Fox was ranked as a NHL player not a defensemen today because forwards are traded for Dmen and vice versa. Lets go back to defensemen this season for discussion sake. Do you feel Fox has been top 5 this season? Do you feel he has been top 5 in the Nations Tournament?

Exactly.

Why would those teams trade us a better player than Fox for Fox?

Nobody wants to trade Fox for Matthews (ok, maybe they do, but they also wanna hit Powerball). People want to trade Fox for a bunch of futures.

Pretending that hasn't always been the agenda is deflection.

Ok, assuming he's not, that puts him where? Third-best in the league? Oh no!

That's not worth $9.5m? It's probably worth close to $16m.

This is what I mean when I constantly harp on the perceptions of salary being stuck 10+ years ago.
