Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Any gathering of people is prone to idiocy.

There's nowhere else with the passion, in-depth discussion, and memeability on the internet about any topic that can stand up to the Rangers board. Where I talk about baseball and football? The Rangers board.

The last post in the Liberty Reddit (besides this one guy trying to huck his merchandise) was two days ago. It's the offseason. I've spent entire days on here in the summer. It never stops.

This place makes watching the Rangers hilarious even when they're bad.

Objectively, this sport is stupid and the Rangers are exhausting, but HFNYR is fun.

Being here makes it obvious how stupid the fans who represent the Rangers on social media are.

I'll take credit for ALL of that.

Hey I am all for moving Lindgren and "freeing" Fox but the Irony is what if Fox is the one who is asking for Lindgren to remain his d partner? Not sure if Drury would or should take that into account. Just food for thought.

It probably is and that's why there's separation of duties. He will get over it

It's a complete cesspool.

We're dumb sometimes. Hell, I've told you guys when I think you're being dumb. But that's like when I say about a professional athlete "man, this guy sucks" and then I go watch kids at the park. It's not even anywhere near the same level.

You can't have the conversations at the Garden or on Facebook that we do about, say, Mika Zibanejad. Zibanejad has his supporters on here but the responses are at least fleshed out. The average shmoe at MSG has no concept of what a good center is around the league and why he would or wouldn't be one.

Even as my interest in the sport (for a number of reasons) creeps towards "oh God, I have to do this again," this forum remains a unique place to have deep analysis of the sport.
I'll take credit for ALL of that.
You deserve some of it.

The back and forth we had about championships and the meaning of life -even if we disagree- can't be had with most sports fans.

There are a lot of thing to attack Lindgren over, but I don't think arguing whether the guy is tough or not is the way to approach it. He is tough. He takes a lot of hits and blocks a lot of shots that 99.9% of the normal public would not.

He plays through injuries so on that end sure.

He doesn’t really take too many hits anymore. I’ve seen him bail out of taking contact several times this year (including what I mentioned above) because I’m guessing he’s tired of getting popped. I don’t remember the last time he threw a hit of any significance that didn’t involve shoving a player into our 11.5 million dollar goalie.

Also every defenseman blocks shots though It’s not good when it’s one of your corner stones to defending.

Have we had any whispers one way or another what they plan to do with Lindgren?

A few weeks ago there was a rumor going around he would be extended. Was there any validity to that? The chatter seems to have picked up for moving him.

It would be very unwise to extend him.

This has always been my Lindgren comp. Tough, willing to mix it up, dies seven times, resurrected six times:

That rumor was bogus. All the rumors are he will be moved.

A player wanting to play with his friend rather than win hockey games is not shocking. Pretty much all players care about their relationships more than winning. As seen by the complete meltdown this year.

Would Florida part with Eetu Luostarinen? He is a very solid role player. 3rd line player. Can play C and LW. Signed for two more seasons. $3M cap hit. Florida needs to add a D. OEL and Montour left in free agency. Florida will have $3.5M in cap space at the deadline. Lindgren's style fits that team.

The funny thing is he isn’t really even that TUFF.

I watched him hot potato a puck weakly around the boards instead of eating it with 6 seconds left around Boston which led to a decent scoring chance because he didn’t want to eat the hit he would have taken. That’s the opposite of TUFF.
It's funny you mention this because there was a recent game with Lindgren on the PK and he had all the room in the word to rip it around for a clear and no icing fear, instead of he tried to hold the puck against he boards and eventually lost, giving the other team powerplay zone pressure. Like, now he decides the pin the puck against the boards? His decisions are awful.

They don't employ bad defensemen and I don't see why they would start now.

I used to enjoy a Mets board (NY Future Stars or something like that) in the way I like this one for Rangers. Then it disappeared and now there's no place for semi-intelligent Mets talk.

And yet they employed Marc Staal and played him for 82 games just two seasons ago. Coming off 8 straight years of xG% under 50 and two of his last three in the 43-44% range. With the same GM and Head Coach.

I mean I'm sure he is but also he shouldn't run the show if it's hurting the team. Players do all kinds of dumb shit like this and it's up to the GM and coach to not just let them dictate all of the line details. Something the Rangers have certainly struggled with lately (Panarin and liking shitty grinders on his other wing, Zibanejad+Kreider, Fox+Lindgren)

I recall that when the Rangers acquired Mikkola that he was a 'bad' defenseman. Also, people used to shit on Kulikov if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think many people called Mikkola "bad." He wasn't what they needed, but he certainly wasn't bad.

Lindgren is legitimately bad. One of the worst regular defensemen in the league.
