Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I don't care who gets a ring. I gave up on the idea of this sport having any justice when the Caps won the Cup in 2018 playing like shit the entire playoffs.

It's not Lindgren's fault he is saddled with Fox.....any other team would have him on the third pairing where he does not have to do the heavy lifting for his slight of frame , slow wheeled offensive minded partner . I'm not sure why Dummy coach continues with it....but blaming Lindgren for playing that far up the roster is kind of ridiculous .

He would be more efficient if he had less minutes in a 3rd pairing situation . The time has come to move Schneider up to play with Fox or move Miller up and Schneider to takes that bump and play with Borgen........and if that does not work....move Miller or Schneider....Go Lavi.....

I have to agree....it's all out of our hands . Somedays I don't think the Rings matter to most of them anyways.....the money they make . They think of themselves only for the most part .

Lindgren I agree. Yeah, remember all those times last year when opposing players went around Trouba like he was standing still? A lot of those times Miller wasn’t even in the TV picture. Where was he. Miller lost the Colorado game in the last 14 seconds with a poor decision. I counted 3 goals in the 6-3 Boston game where his decisions caused odd man rushes the other way. He plays D by letting his man get by him to the outside, then he latches on with his left arm and tries to poke check the puck with his right. Sometimes he is successful and it’s a great play. Other times not so much, and it leads to another cross ice pass for a league leading cross ice pass goal against. He pinches when he should stay back. He’ll body his man while leaving his partner alone for a 2 on 1. My wife can tell you how many times this year I yelled at the TV saying “what are you doing” and it’s usually Lindgren or Key I’m yelling at. Incredible talent. Incredibly poor decision maker. Not our biggest problem, but we won’t win a cup with him. Other teams will take a chance on him. He’s our best trade chip. Do so before we have to pay 7 mil per.
This, Bingo bango.
His age/skillset/experience make him a valuable trade chip as you said.
I don’t think he signs for 5.5-6.5 mill like some think either.
Hes going to want a Laf type deal with cap going up.
IMO, NYR are better off moving him for a solid longer term asset, whatever cap savings banked can also be allocated to FA/Partner for Fox/trade/etc.
Truth is, Schneider and KAM are similar in their styles and output. Neither guy is too offensive, neither is a rock defensively either.
Both aren’t overly physical either.
I give the edge to Schneider in that Dept: kam is the better skater and overall athlete however.
I’m not saying having Kam or resigning him long term with cripple NYR. Not saying that the deal will be an albatross or KAM can’t keep developing either.
It can certainly be possible that like Kreider, kam takes that next step when he’s older and gets better with age on his big boy(career deal) so far.
There are some similarities there even though 1 is a FWD and 1 is a D imo.
But Schneider and miller kind of play a redundant game to eachother.
If Schneider was due for large $$ and years and KAM was the younger guy with more control, I’d be advocating trading Schneider instead.
That’s just the current make up.
We are still going to Draft D and NHL 3rd pairs will likely still be a mix of cheap youth from in the system and cheap hopefully quality vets.
The top 4 guys are the horses and get paid.
That’s just the reality of that situation.
Kam is also a LD. Historically, RD is harder to fill.
Fox being here Is the only sure thing…. Borgren has played well and when cap takes a massive jump in next 2-3 seasons, the contract he signed is likely what 2nd/3rd pair solid vet tweeters will be making at the time.
Schneider has some cost control left yet to come….
Foxs partner whether UfA or trade will likely cost major dollars and term…..
I also think NYR wants to add BT, or at least someone of his age and style. IMO, kam being a significant part of a trade package to acquire that type of talent is a must.
Just my view

This. Lindgren is still and effective player. He’ll be a good add to a quality team. That’s why he’ll have trade interest.
He plays tough, heart on his sleeve and leaves it all out on the ice. Tbh, he’s the exact type of vet good young teams what to add to their vet core.
The main issue is injuries on his frame and style of play take their toll…. He’s a 2nd-3rd pair tweener. Not a top 2 D. He’s exposed because he’s in a situation he can’t handle any longer.
Ideally he’s a 3rd Pair/PK D that can fill in as a 3-4 for injuries for a 20-30 game clip if need be. That’s what good teams look for. Cause a 20-30 game injury can derail a season/playoffs.
The coaches just keep putting him in situations he can’t do on our team. Not any longer at least.
