Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Drury should buy and sell. Sell Lindgren, Smith, Vesey for whatever you can get. Use some of that return to replace Lindgren. I would move Othmann for multi year solution at 3C. I question why he hasn’t gotten a longer look at the NHL level, and I liked what I saw from Berard more, there’s upside with him imo. I don’t really think there’s room for both with Perrault on the horizon.

Umm so I’m seeing rumors about Svechnikov possibly being out there. Canes need a 2C…hmm…wonder if Drury could work some magic…Zib…maybe, just maybe…lol. I know, wishful thinking.

I don’t know where his logic is.
Zibby is a nightmare all season. Hes also a turd leadership wise.
He’s has an uptick in play since miller arrived and given him space.
I know Zibby is a high dollar guy and Lavi wants to get him going, that’s why he’s the 1st line RW atm….
But Lavi should want a job here beyond next season.
Laf or cuylle for that matter can’t have the opportunity to produce offensively on the PP without an extended look there…. That’s not going to just manifest itself. He’s got to give them the chance… waiting for a trade/injury is just counter productive at this point in time.
Cuylle played great when given more runway at the beginning of the year. Now he’s stuck on 3rd line with 3rd line min and no upper end talented linemates…
The PP is more so for Laffy. Getting him time on the1st unit passing, shooting, reading the D, trying out moves, finding the open man, etc etc are all important for his next step as an offensive player making 8 mill per…. You want his scoring confidence to be high by playing with the top tier talent on the team…. For Christ sakes, it’s not like splitting the atom or inventing a longer lasting light bulb. Get him on the PP and leave him there for the rest of this miserable season.
And another thing as many of you can see myself included, Laf and miller have many similar parallels/similarities to their style of play. (Miller at 23 vs laf at 23 years old)
Both play with edge, don’t mind the rough stuff, got wrister( Lafs was/is better at same age), size, swagger, etc….
Miller at that point in time might have the slight skating edge, but neither were burners…. Miller has refined his game, improved skating and shot accuracy, etc and become a force of a player.
Don’t you think it would be smart or benefit Laffys game if they maybe were on the same line getting minutes together??? Not just watching/learning from him in practice??? Maybe miller rubs off/mentors the kid and helps him find that next level/gear to his game????
Imo, Lavi and a lot of this coaching staff have had their heads shoved directly up their asses for most of the year.
They better figure it out quick, because there is a lot riding on what kind of player Laf becomes and how important he is to NYR.
I’m getting really tired of the same business as usual platitudes we’ve gotten for all that ails this team.

I like Panarin. He is a good reg season performer and scorer. He’s not going to be the kind of guy with the style of play he has to get the rangers to the cup and win….. need more abrasive scorers that will lay it on the line and pay a price to get the job/needed play done.
IMO, he’s part of the problem and not the solution.
Miller and Schneider on the backend have become redundant as well.
Miller should be traded because investing a high cap hit in him long term is flat out dumb.
Play and evaluate Othmann, Berard, chmelar,sykora and anyone else that deserves a look in this dumpster fire of a season.
Start out next camp with a switch in leadership and new younger legs with hungry players

I may miss a few mins here and there and w/Gotham Sports-MSG+ am unable to rewind, but I typically see all the games, and that is substantiated by my comments. But who the f**k are you to say, when there is obv zero basis for you to actually know?

Perhaps you expect us to take you at yr word on that in this instance due to the following...
Just the other day you made a statement that Kreider is being forced into the lineup so he can prop up Mika and then went quiet when you got called out on the fact that Mika and Kreider are not on the same line.

Kreider imo is being pushed to play b'c they have zero other studs to get in front of the net and generally offer a physical presence [except Rempe and Edstrom who are works in progress now b'c we didn't listen to bern and accelerate their development earlier]. Kreider is both accommodating and pushing back vs that push based on his immediate situation, with a back that we hope is trending towards a full heal, although he must still take care to pick his spots and not reaggravate going forward.

That’s why I’m looking at Mario Ferraro. Signed next year for 3.25M too. Try to package Lindgren/Smith @50% and get some picks and use that for D help. Agree 100%

Drury should at least see what the Olivier camp is looking for in a long term UFA deal this Summer . That kid can play as well as fight . He has been a real leader for Columbus this season . He is going to get a decent raise on his new deal and he has worked for every cent of it unlike some we have that hardly put forth any effort or second-3rd or 4th effort along the boards . He would look pretty good as a winger next Winter on one of our 3rd line wings especially if Cuylee moves up a notch . Tricky part is how expensive will he become ?

Imagine a bottom 6 with Rempe/Olivier coming out back to back shifts ....talk about strong boardwork and crease battles !!! It will also allow Perreault-Othmann time to grow as players .

Think the time to trade Lindgren is a couple games after the break. Let Fox experience playing with Slavin or Werenski for the tournament and then having to go back to Lindgren.

after max retain on zib to ana, with ok prospects Sykora + BMB + better prospect emery, and Robertson, plus Smith + Lindgren + Vesey + return of ana 4th 2025
we get zegras + Helleson
zib retained once more so he is 2+ per and is shipped off w/prospects [except Robertson] to NYI for Dobson, possibly also pivot like Pageau

-- Isles need youth, which they get w/young higher/top prospect Emery to replace Dobson in 1-2 yrs, zib at 2+ per x balance of his term [4+] is acceptable risk-> productive, additional F prospects. Avoid big # to Dobson and gain cap.
also important, thought I read somewhere Isles having attendance issues; need bold reinvention like this to spark fannies in the seats

-- ducks get Dobson, who they can keep or possibly flip in package for Ellias Pet. depending on other offers. While they did not have to yield immediately, it was always known Zeg wanted to go back east, once possible, so that distraction is over. Smith is useful in lieu of 4 6ths for eating small piece of cap x 4 + rest of this season, and can likely be flipped, or w/picks added, flipped for a 2nd. Lindgren expiring, what the market will pay and again, add pick to upgrade pick return.

-- Rs keep their current D corps, add oft injured but creative F who may be willing to put out physically once here = cheaper + better long term upgrade on zib, plus out from under zib contract. What is Fox going to experience though? Maybe I'm wrong but I'd be surprised if this tournament is anything more than a bunch of glorified All Star games. No one is going to go balls to the wall and risk injury for this nonsense. Yeah, his D partner will be way better than Lindgren but they're not going to be playing at game intensity.

At least some of his pond hockey creates offense. Mika does nothing other than lose battles and turnover the puck.

The thing about Bread that would frustrate me as a coach is he wins 55% of side board battles in the offensive zone but that number drops significantly in the defensive zone. Now don't get me wrong. I do understand a bit. Bread isn't the first guy that plays offense much harder than defense. I just feel last season he was giving more of an honest effort.

Are you sure you use Gotham sports since you say you are “unable to rewind” which is blatantly false? How can we expect that in time you will be proved correct as usual when you have already been proved incorrect on the functionality of the app ?

There is a spot on this team for a player like Olivier, especially if they do the smart thing and try Edstrom at 3C long-term. I highly doubt CBJ allows him to leave though. I do expect us to be interest in Frederic for similar reasons

He's on his off wing, that happens in your own end. A bigger issue is why are we rimming it up the wall to create a board battle instead of breaking it out? It's been an issue dating back to AV.
