Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

This trade was made for the future in mind. Drury, I'm sure was hoping maybe JTM could help them make a playoff push for this year, but that would've been a bonus, not the long term goal of the deal.

The team should look very different after the break. Kreider, Smith, Vesey, Lindgren all can go. Call up Othmann, Berard, Brannstrom. See if that sparks them in the 8 games before the deadline. Nothing has changed in regards to team needs. Mika and Panarin are summer decisions.

Panarin actually wins a lot of puck battles. His level of compete for loose pucks is impressive considering his size. But you’re right in regards to him playing pond hockey. He’s arguably the best pond hockey player in the league.

At least some of his pond hockey creates offense. Mika does nothing other than lose battles and turnover the puck.

Mika should go as soon as we can arrange it, and if we sent him
double retained + [prospects] to NYI [close enuf should not be an issue]
and
they send Dobson to ANA
we can settle for Zegras + Helleson

bread depends on if he realizes he is not getting a good reup contract, and given that, will he waive early
 
If the Rangers are going to lose games, I'd rather they just lose with the kids getting ice time and putting in the effort. I'm fine with some losses if it means getting a good luck at the future, and they're trying.

Losses like last night, when the vets are coasting around not giving a damn, are way more infuriating.

Hopefully Drury sends a message during the break and sends some of the vets packing.

There absolutely were people who thought Lindgren was a better fit because of the “role” he plays.

It didn’t have to be chychrun though. Detroit gave up a 2nd to move Walman and that would have been an upgrade plus an asset. Signed for less than Lindgren as well and they can get him now if they want to give up more than they really should or would have needed to over the summer.

It’s been rehashed a billion times, it’s not hard to upgrade on this player because almost anyone would be an upgrade. They don’t even have to get rid of him to upgrade on him, they just have to not play him and play someone else.

See people said the same thing about trouba, and once trouba was gone it was a mess until borgen came in and stabilized things a bit on the second pairing. Lindgren is not ideal but there seems to be an idea that it can't get worse on this d. It's funny bc I have heard Canadian media and former NHL scouts refer to lindgren as a very good NHL d man having a bad season. If that's the case then maybe nyr will have an opportunity to cash in on a trade. Still waiting to see who nyr trades for that new top pair ld. Chychrun trade to Washington was all about Jensen and finding the right pairing for chabot. Maybe nyr gets lucky and someone else is looking for the same type of trade. Would like all the excuses for fox's defense to start going away.

Set the clock back less than a year and imagine Rangers did this trade for JTM then and then extended him. The trade is a no-brainer win.

Yep.

The Miller trade made it clear that NYR are not going to be rebuilding for 3-4 more years minimum.

So the plan is going to be to replace potential departures like Panarin, Kreider, or Mika right away. They won’t be blowing it up.

I’d guess both Miller and Trocheck are gonna be here as the 1-2 or 1-3 until 2028 at least. Fox, Igor will be part of the new build.

Laf on the other hand, if the right trade comes along for a top 1LHD…

Laf+ Mika for Power+Cozens could be the ass kicking both teams need.

Make the moves for a better tomorrow. Kreider, Vesey, Smith, Lindgren out. Call up berard and Othmann.

Cuylle-Z-Berard
Othmann-Tro-Kaliyev
Brod-Carrick-Rempe

Miller-Fox
Jones-Brogen
Vaak-Schneider

See what you have now to make better decisions in the summer. Maybe Panarin or Z goes, but i don't think that roster is far off in the sense that it has the bones to make a playoff threat. Perreault joins and replaces Kaliyev and plays with Z and cuylle. Moves berard to that 3rd line and now the top 9 is cooking.

I'd add Maata. Cheap and can play with Fox. Puts Miller back with Borgen and they have been good enough. Vaak is a perfect 7. Add another proper LD (Gavrikov) and 25-26 is looking good. And bunch of cap for...McDavid. As is his birthright.

Not to mention the good picks to restock the prospect pool from the trades.

Don't be a coward Drury. This is the reset that can get this team and culture back in the right direction.

As for Lavi, I don't know. Peca has a good mind for the game. Maybe just make him the HC. He's a tough SOB like Rod. And this team would be way more fun to watch cause at least all the players in there want it.
