Smith is attractive to a team like WPG due to his PK prowess, and the fact that he is a proven and productive playoff performer.

This trade was made for the future in mind. Drury, I'm sure was hoping maybe JTM could help them make a playoff push for this year, but that would've been a bonus, not the long term goal of the deal.

The team should look very different after the break. Kreider, Smith, Vesey, Lindgren all can go. Call up Othmann, Berard, Brannstrom. See if that sparks them in the 8 games before the deadline. Nothing has changed in regards to team needs. Mika and Panarin are summer decisions.
