Would a team trade a player with term for Kreider? Matheson from Habs? Hampus Lindholm from the B's? Just a couple I thought of but if Drury can swing a trade like that it would be huge. We need a player like that, like we needed a JT Miller.

I think the question though is does nyr want to swap pending cap space for a player with term. Hampus is a wild bird if people don't know. He is a complete wildcard. Is that who nyr wants to commit their pending cap space to?

I've always like Matheson. 2 years left in the 4s. He can move the puck. He always scores against us with Montreal but he also had a very good series against us with Pittsburgh in 2022. Idk if Gorton and Drury will deal (i bet they would) but we obviously have players Gorton is familiar with.

How about the others? Or how about the fact that it's not about a #6, it's about finding someone who is actually top 4 quality (which Lindgren, even at his very best, barely was) and playing him with Fox.

Finding a 6 is easy. Vaak can be a 6, Jones can be a 6. Gustafsson can be a 6. All of those guys can fill that role and do it better than Ryan Lindgren can for a fraction of the price. Thats the point that has been reiterated and re-hashed multiple times by multiple people but you're either playing dumb for the sake of it or can't read. Neither is really a good look.

“Best” scenario for you being the worst one for the organization is par for the course haha.

It’s fun to come in here an see the victory laps and sky is falling people. The team is in an on the fly transition. There are still moves to make. I have to acknowledge that the playoffs are going to be a scratch and claw situation so people may get their wish if they come up short, but The team has made huge strides forward in the roster construction standpoint.

Kreider, Lindgren, Jones, Smith should still go. Berard and Othmann need to get the call. Get a top 4 D for the assets we move and the team is golden.

What "Lesson" do you think Drury needs to be taught? He's already traded Trouba, *Goodrow, Kakko, Chytil this year. Obviously he wants to make changes. Did you think he was going to be able to realistically trade like 10 guys in one season? Obviously not.

Stop acquiring 32 year olds and build a long term contender.

Vaak is a solid #6, which is a significant improvement on this version of Lindgren. Big reason why Fox has regressed from a Norris caliber dman is he’s been playing with an AHL’er all year. Look at how much better Quinn Hughes got when he got Hronek as his partner. Don’t even need that level of player, just a solid middle pair NHL defenseman would turn Fox back into a top 3 dman and give the Rangers a great top pair.

You're remember what you want about gusto. He was absolutely horrible after the luster wore off. People here were acting like nyr was smarter than everyone else and ignored his history of bouncing around. He's not good. Lindgren is not good, but one is not good as a 1 pair guy that your top d wants to play with. The other is not good as a 3rd pair guy that really can't play defense even against 3rd liners. Gusto still can't find an org that wants to keep him multiple years at this point.

They could also just play Jones and re-arrange the pairs they have.

I'm not saying that they should play him with Fox (though he'd be a better option than Lindgren because he can at least push the puck forward and before anyone hits me with the DURR defense Lindgren sucks at defense too) but they have in house options that while far from ideal, would be better than what they're running right now/.

Or just play him with Schneider since Schneider has only ever gotten decent results with him or Gus.

1. Lindgren got hurt in Game 6 of the Carolina series. If you want to roll with that excuse, how does that explain the 9 games that preceded it? At best that absolves him for the Panthers series but if he's that hurt, he shouldn't be playing because he was bad enough when he was healthy (the regular season stats were also bad.)

2. Teams have done it before lol. Did you just start watching the sport?

Basically every single UFA defenseman who has signed the last 3 years if you want someone who is better than the current Lindgren.

If you want just strictly last year? here are the guys with an AAV equal to (or lower, I'm not throwing guys like Skjei Roy and Montour into this mix though I would have ditched Lindgren and made the extra room for Roy, he's good.)

Schmidt
Gustafsson (who we had)
Tanev (Who is signed to an EQUAL AAV.)


In the past few years we've seen guys like Ekholm, Sergachev and Chychrun (twice) get traded. I'm sure I'm blanking on someone else (EK too, but thats a massive salary.)

The point isn't getting a #6, those guys are EASY to find.

The point is to stop having someone who is a 8 on a contender playing next to Fox. That was something that should have been solved when Lindgren was still top 6 worthy. It's absurd that it's still a sore spot when he isn't worthy of being in an every game rotation, let alone in the top 4.

This exercise holds if you want to go back to the last 2 seasons as well.
