I understand what you have said. I just think you are trying to change things. Every coach wants an accurate shot. Every coach would prefer a shorter windup to a blocked shot. No coach is telling Makar not to use his 102mph slapshot if he has time and the situation calls for it imo. Adam Fox (and the NYR coaches) would luv to have the ability to add a 102 mph slap shot to his tool kit. If you disagree that is your right.

I'd hope that Miller would have the common sense to stay away from the big dummy .....he can hurt people.
 
So here is a thought.
There is no longer a ? of IF jtm is coming, he IS here NOW
Hopefully Zib reads betw the lines and considers waiving now
He still wants local, we think so LI is theoretically a fit
Isles do not want zib, but are old/need to get younger

It is not clear if ‘nucks want to move Elias Pett given jtm now moved.
On paper, if there was sufficient return, trading him eliminates remaining drama
Elias Pett = elite with an asterisk due to ongoing knee issues hampering superior speed

Isles want a haul for Dobson who could be better defensively but is high end, and not clear they want to pay him. Also, Isles are not selling well, so they need a spark now to get fannies in the seats, now.

So we have a 3 way in a couple of steps

So step 1 includes Zib to VAN at half = 4.25, VAN eats 1.5 per x 4+ remaining term, then immediately sends to NYI at 2.75 per, a # at which zib = acceptable risk.
The Marleau standard would have us send like 4 6ths + for eating the 1.5 per. In lieu of that, we ship Smith and Brannstrom to ‘nucks, who keep Smith as useful top 6 [more 2nd line W] and will move Bran to Isles.
We also throw in Sykora just for taking zib and Ruhwedel who gets shipped to LI and becomes RD depth for Isles

Step 2 Elias Pett + Zib + Bran + Ruhwedel to NYI for Dobson + Pageau + Lee

What does everybody get?

‘Nucks weaken pivot further but strengthen Ds. If they can get decent + stopgap out of Lee + Pageau til offseason, and Raty can take next step or 2, they continue w/forward progress w/minimal distraction going forward [besides G controversy]

Isles gamble and now have pivot depth of
Elias Pett
Barzal
Nelson
Zib
+ they got younger


Rs pay to lose a headache

jettison Lindgren, Vesey, etc for best draft pics

Cuylle/Kreider [ck, ltir now, eventually] - jtm - Kaliyev
LaF - Tro - bread
Eds - Carrick - Rempe
Othmann - Brodz - Berard

KAM - Fox
Jones [stopgap] - Schneider
Vaak - Borgen

THEN deal
Fox for a haul including Kleven, Pinto, Greig + OTT 1st

bread at half to DAL for Bischel + 1st

and Shesty + Tro + Othmann to LAK for a huge haul
 
back up the brinks truck to Gavrikov in Free Agency... that's our best option IMO.

Unfortunately do not see a way to get a decent upgrade for this season.... The cost wouldn't be worth it for a rental. That's why I'm good with trying Schneider there

Whoever said it's time to call up Othmann is correct. He's either a part of this team or trade bait for a defenseman. Maybe he gets a 7 game cameo between Four Nations and the trade deadline. He's been scoring in Hartford from what I've seen. If you're not gonna play Kaliyev we need a shooter.

The Rangers are trying to make the playoffs. They aren't going to experiment.
 
They need to see who the best LHD they can get for Kreider is, and then get Berard and/or Othmann back up. if they have to choose between Berard OR Othmann going forward that’s another asset they can use. They absolutely have to give Othmann a shot and see if he can work or they need to trade him before his value goes in the tank

Opposite.

He's been the one guy who has been unequivocally abysmal since then. Consider he plays most of his minutes with Fox.
