Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

You should consider the fact that an unprotected pick is much less valuable now than it was a few years ago given the current lottery rules where you can't move up more than 10 spots, nobody outside of the top 11 can get the 1st pick, and they only lotto off picks 1-2 instead of 1-2-3.

The sequence of events that would require giving up a top 5 pick next year is incredibly unlikely since it basically would mean making (or just bubbling out on) the playoffs this year, and then either completely falling apart to becoming a bottom 5 team or once again being a bubble team and hitting like a 2% chance to move up,
Well this is news to me. I was thinking it was the old lottery system and didnt know there were changes. This does make me feel better about things. With Igor in net it would have to be an epic collapse or several injuries for Pitt to draft in the top 5 in 26 that wouldve been the Rangers.

I still dont take back the part about Drury and co. being smug and overconfident though lol

Is it bleached with a managed healthy diet passing through for the DD Boys?
Not bleached but healthy

Arthur going on again about how this room/core was "low-maintenance" before the Goodrow/Trouba jettisonings and how Drury screwed the pysche of the team.

Drury didnt handle it great but this is largely the same core who has pretty much gone through 4 coaches (almost 5) and refused to do some uncomfortable things in the playoffs to win series like the one against the Devils they pissed away under Gallant.

They brought in players like Goodrow, Trocheck and now JT to try and turn the culture. If it didnt need turning or tweaking than you cant say they were a low maintenance group.

The more I think of it the quicker they rid themselves of the bromance the better. I feel like they are the crux of the attitude problem with this club. Hopefully this deal is an indication of that and not just the 3rd iteration of a band-aid.

Miller is enough of a dick that he's going to start affecting the bffs. He will break up some of the bromances. Drury brought him in here knowing full well what Miller is. Drury isn't trying to change Miller, he's trying to change the room...
Ding ding ding. JT Miller wasn't brought in this season as a "We're going to win the Cup this season" move. It was to change the landscape of the NYR locker room. I'm all for that.

I actually think the Bruins and Rangers are good trade partners because Bruins aren’t going to want a full scale rebuild either. They are going to want a dreaded retool. Zadarov has not worked out for them. Zadarov for Kreider kind of helps both teams? Both have lost value this season

Bread and JT seem to be gelling…Need to find them a long term RW. If so, this is a really solid top9. Fix the defense (send Lindgren to Mars) and were cooking with gas.

Panarin - Miller - XXX
Cuylle - Trocheck - Lafreniere
Kreider - Mika - Smith

Absolutely not to Zadarov. I dont hate Kreider for Frederic and a 1st but a little scared of Frederics next contract

Very tough to find a match in Kreider deal. Very tough to find a LHD that would be acceptable for what this team is building. Zadarov the closest as of now. Still digging though. We are not going to get some like small puck mover guy. I don't know that we get Frederic for him now, let alone Frederic AND a 1st. Kreider has played himself away from that. Might still do it straight up. Also kind of wondering if there is a weird Kreider for Marchand deal in the ether, but again Kreider is probably their best route to get the LHD they need. I would still think about trying to do Zibanejad for Skjei/S. Jones/etc , but that's obviously complicated. Rangers probably need to find a bad contract swap and get lucky

Tkachuks don't fall off trees, unfortunately.

I do think Cuylle could fit into that spot well, but he's the type of player who could probably make it work with any linemates and play whatever role the line requires.

yeah youre right. Kreider has tanked his value. Its a trade for the summer when all the GMs are drunk at their cottages and start hearing how much Kreider has been training

Yeah I mean maybe you could do something with Pittsburgh like Kreider for Graves but we already have one Lindgren. There just are not a lot of options. Do you do like Kreider and Lindgren for Graves and like one of Bunting/Rakell/Rust and tell the Penguins they can cut cap? Just sucks

The Rangers are trying to make the playoffs. They aren't going to experiment.
Five game stretch coming up against PITT (2x), BUF, NYI, CBJ. Get Othmann in the lineup. Pretty low risk. Brodzinski or Arthur over him is not going to move the needle. Lets see what we have

Cuylle - Trocheck - Lafreniere
Panarin - Miller - Othmann
Cryder - Meeka - Smith
