Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Kaliyev hasn't added enough forecheck pressure for him and his line to be effective. It's not fair that he sits while Kreider gets to lounge around, but he needs to realize by now this is not a meritocratic environment here.

Rangers team philosophy in one gif.

brodzinsky in for kaliyev is dumbass because your exchanging a defense first guy for a scorer on a team thats having trouble scoring. if laviolette would play kaliyev on the power play he would produce but for some reason he stays with what isnt working. also kaliyev can sit in the netfront to give krieder 's sore back a break. but i guess we gotta continue with the sunk salary costs of the dynamic duo. i think its obvious to even a casual observer that mika has lost interest since last yrs eastern conference final and krieder is is beat up beyond recognition. time for change.
I would have liked to see Kaliyev with Bread for a few games. The problem with the Chytil line as constructed is that none are particularly adept at playmaking. Maybe Brodzinski can help there, whether it’s Kaliyev or Kreider exiting the line.

You mean country club, cancer, cryder. Yup, just use him up and throw him out. Next! LOL
You can alpha male huff and puff all you want, setting aside any other aspect of what is fair and just, it is simply stupid player mgmt
I am reminded of the coach who ruined several pitchers by insisting they pitch a certain style, a certain number of extended innings
Extreme short term results, long term eff up

Yeah no, consider yourself rebuffed by bern here
b'c
the FACT is if we had CK do this some, but not all of the time, he would be in much better shape, not broken down now, and we would still have a quality functional asset.
so,
bern >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>and this R mgmt stupidity is called out for ruining/wasting a great Ranger player

I suspect they are doing what they can to make Kreider as attractive as possible for the next 3 games. I believe Boston is the opponent for 2 of those games, and there possibly is a perception that they may be interested in acquiring him.

I think it's funny just how much this and every fan base hates their old players that are past their prime and loves young players even if they'll never amount to anything. Kreider has been one of the best players in this team's history. Just last year had a heroic performance to win the Carolina series. This year he kind of fell off a cliff but because he's an older player everyone hates him.

You can say the same about guys like Trouba and Lindgren, but neither are a pimple on Kreider's ass in terms of Rangers legacy. And Trouba legit made some decisions with the NTC at the end that made us appropriately mad.

Please. Krieder has 2 assists in 42 games while playing top-9 ES minutes, PP1, and PK. That is more than falling off a cliff; that is unfathomably bad. Tanner Glass would have more assists given that opportunity. If he's hurt, he shouldn't be playing. If he isn't hurt, then he's a malcontent who has quit on the organization, on his teammates, and on himself.

I keep hearing about him being hurt. We'll see if this is true if he opts to play in Four Nations. A useless tournament than can be skipped that can be better served healing.

I think it's a stretch that the guy suddenly gave up if he's healthy. When the team went 4-15, I get that. But everyone got it together and Kreider decided he was still pouting over Goodrow. That doesn't make sense.

Why is that hard to believe? Country Club Kreider didn't get his way so he is pouting. His boyfriend Mika is in the same boat as him, send them both out to sea already.

And if he is sooo hurt then why the f*** is he being so selfish and still playing? He clearly isn't doing the team any favors.

So pick what you want, neither makes him look good.

I begin to consider that all pro franchises, not just the rangers, are more interested in justifying big contracts than than quality of product delivered (competitiveness and entertainment)

Mika is an emo player that has always had trouble with confidence. I really don't see it with Kreider. He's always been a competitor. And he's not Country Club Kreider just because he's been with the team for a long time.

It's kind of how in American society which differs from other societies we treat our elderly poorly and our young well. In other societies the elderly actually get respect.

What does this even mean?

6 points in his last 20 games. Embarrassingly bad.

All guys from bygone days.. The game has changed. With goalies filling the nets the point bomb is considered a bad play. It's gone the way of the designated goon and bench clearing brawls.
Maybe so but I do not see any reason not to want a booming shot. I doubt any AVs coaches are saying we would like Makar to shoot at an Adam Fox or Ryan Lindgren speed. JT Miller has a pretty hard shot. Maybe he will use it in NY :)

I love all the assumptions being made here. Just hilarious.
All that is dumb. Here’s the bottom line: Kreider has gone from a 75 point player to barely replacement level. At this rate, we should’ve moved him in the offseason. His value has likely never been lower than it is right now. If we were to trade him at the deadline, IMO we’d be lucky to get a 2nd and a C prospect attached to a medium bad contract. It feels like we’re gonna just have to bite the bullet with that and move on.

Kreider and many, MANY of our top players have had down seasons. No disputing that. Name one top player who has had a better season than last year?

We could've moved so many pieces after the season last year. Mostly everyone's value was high and could've sold high on so many pieces. However, our management have to be the most risk-taking dumbasses in the NHL and decided to "run it back" without adding any significant pieces because we're supposed to be a forever playoff team for some reason, instead of a team that understands it's time to rebuild.

what is up w this season? this is like, the 4th locker room drama I’ve seen. i’m used to nhl players being completely bland and milquetoast, when did they turn into NBA players?

I think losing a guy who has been a part of your organization since 2008 and holds every single record, wore the C and, to steal a phrase from Larry Whistledown, sacrificed his body for the Lightning is something that is going to piss off a few people in that room, especially those who have been along for the ride with him for more than a decade.

This isn't Barclay Goodrow, Jacob Trouba or Ryan Lindgren. That was a guy who was highly respected while being the face of that franchise from basically the second he was drafted.

It's really ballsy of a FO to walk away from a player like that even if it was the right move.
