Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Also lmao at Brandon Saad. From a Blues fan yesterday:
He's close to being finished. He used to be able to play on a shutdown line, but not anymore. His production isn't good enough for even a 3rd line scoring role. His extra year kills his value.

Also someone needs to clue in Brooks to the fact that Lindgren has basically been used as a #4 since the beginning of 2021-22.

Lindgren-Fox have eaten fewer minutes 5v5 than Miller-Trouba/Borgen every-single-year.

His boy is just trash now. He can cry about how he's sacrificed his body and thats led to it happening sooner than it would for other players his age but it happened. He's really, really bad now and the solution to fixing the D isn't to get bigger and "downgrade" him and Fox by.... playing them in the exact same role that they've been playing since Gallant took over.

They need to get Fox a real partner and let them eat the most minutes of any pairing. Thats the solution, not signing a player out of sympathy whose entire skill set right now is "LEADURSHIP."
Larry might be eating too many paint chips.

He thinks people are mean to Lindgren now? Does he remember how Girardi and Staal were treated after they broke down? Lindgren's already at that point and he isn't committed to a big deal and probably hasn't even seen the worst of his worst years.

Fox is 6th in the league in goals for defensemen from 22 - 24 lol. This is just false.

Not saying I have a great explanation for this year, I don't.
It is very strange. He never had a booming point shot but he did score his share. Now it seems unlikely he will score. What happened?

Would be nice to have a crazy scary slapshot on our PP. The kind that is a real weapon but there aren't many nowadays (none on our team).

That fact that Rempe & Kreider are tied for assists this season is insane
Kreider has played 17:29 per game over 42GP and on PP1
Rempe has played 6:23 per game over 15GP
How is it even possible for Kreider to have so few assists?

Promote the 4th line
You do not get assists for throwing the puck blindly in a corner at the sound of approaching blades very often .

Where does Lindgren rank on a scale of Girardi, Malik, and Redden?

Brandt Clarke as part of a package for Petey makes a lot of sense to me
Clarke is like their Doughty 2.0 - That'd be a terrible trade IMO. It makes TOTAL SENSE for Vancouver to ask for him but value wise, I'd put Clarke higher than Schneider with regards to ceiling and age. He's gonna get a Jake Sanderson contract extension soon.

Can something happen already?

Im bored with this team of lazy individuals. They have no heart and the games are not entertaining. Its the same stuff everygame.

Hopefully Drury realizes that this team is going nowhere and starts the major overhaul.

Kreider, lindgren, smith, maybe even kandre at TD.
I think you need to fire up the time machine to make the TDL happen sooner.

Wasn't Quinn basically that guy? Lots of people thought so when he was hired only to inevitably turn on him by year 2.

Who do you want to bring in and why will things be any different with that coach?
He coaches in Moncton NB of the Quebec league right now . He never lost a game last season coaching in University and in international play for Canada . The season before that he won a Memorial Cup In Saint John after taking the team over for the Memorial Cup final series . All the guy does is WIN WIN WIN . Gardiner MacDougall would do well for us in a redo . He has had offers in the past but always refused on account of his family . Things must have changed because he has moved about the last 3-4 seasons and won at everything he touched . He likely will also win another Memorial Cup this year. in his year one with the team. Building Champions, Gardiner MacDougall's Unrivaled Legacy in Canadian Hockey

The big slap shot has gone the way of the dinosaur. It’s not considered I high enough percentage shot against modern goalies.

The only comparable is Girardi. He gave us everything he had in the tank and then some. He didn’t determine how coaches used him or what GMs offered him. He left every ounce on the ice and he had some years where he really ought to be commended and considered to have been a leader and trooper and brought everything you could wish for from a player of his ilk. Unfortunately, he burned up and we weren’t able to cross the finish line. Both he and Girardi, limited as they were, if they get you a Cup are folk heroes for how much they left on the ice.

I like it not because of the ability to cleanly beat a goalie (possible) but because of other effects on PKs. Goalies often can't catch it clean, rebounds, guys getting out of the way due to fear of injury, etc.

Roman Josi and Fil Hronek still have big slappers. Other blueliners: Makar, Kesselring, Parayko, Gudas, Karlsson, Sanheim, one-timer NYR Darren Raddysh have all clocked 100+ mph. I think defensemen get pressured to the point where they don't get to use their shot as effectively. And only a handful of the above mentioned get PP1 time where you see the most opportunity for these shots. Another factor is the prevalence of 4 forward 1 d PP formations.

I’ve been busy lately so haven’t done much other than skim this site over the past week or so.

We’ve reached the “trade Adam Fox” portion of the evening eh?

I’ll check back in next week.
Fox might be gone be next week if that's when you'll check in again.
