Not sure where to post this, but this seems like the catch all thread. I heard that the kids these days are on Reddit instead of message boards. At first I got it since I like Reddit for most things. But then going through a Giants thread I realized that Reddit format is like chat room format from the late 90s-early 00s. Why are message boards that don't look like something that predates Google now less popular with fans?

Am I the only person who has no interest in Miller? With this franchises history, how are so many fans ecstatic about trading away homegrown talent for a player over 30 with their best years behind them? How quickly does Miller decline, how long until Chytil is just a flat out better player? Miller doesn't make this team a cup contender. Hell, two Millers doesn't make this team a cup contender. Bringing in more players around Chytil's age *could* make us a cup contender at some point in the next 5-6 years. I don't know the situation in Vancouver as well as some others, but if EP is available, that's the only player we should be targetting. Let someone else be Miller's retirement home.

I generally think JT Miller would be a terrible pickup. The team has bigger headaches that first need correcting. Except most of the headaches I'd like shipped have NMCs.
Then I think what a douche JT sounds like to teammates and consider he might be ideal to make the clowns with NMCs want to leave.

Nope. I was typing my prior post as yours came up.
There are already plenty of declining players here. No need to turn the team into a nursing home.
The last few of these threads are filled with posters who have little to no interest in Miller (although most seem ok with the move if it's Mika for JT), and I doubt there'd be anyone 'ecstatic' about getting him, although you could also argue that JT is a homegrown player...
Miller vs Chytil is an interesting one, and you bring up some good questions, but there will always be concerns around Chytil's health, and also what he'll want on future contracts. All things being equal I'd say you arguing against getting 3 x 70 point seasons out of Miller vs hoping that Chytil can stay healthy enough to crack 60.
But regardless of whether you go Miller or Chytil (or someone else) I don't think the idea is to just trade for one piece and then go 'cup ready'; it looks to me like Drury has a desire to change a few more parts

As vehemently anti-Miller as I am, Chytil will be out of the league due to injuries before he’s a flat out better player than Miller.

Yeah I think Mika for JT is another story, but we're still giving up additional assets with Mika, and for what purpose? To solidify a weak 3 year window that we're going to continue committing assets to? It's an easier pill to swallow, but a pill I still don't want to take. I think you're onto something with considering Miller "homegrown" though. I get the feeling a lot of people just want him back. I'd rather not lose two trades over one player though.
Your grasp on how I feel about Miller vs Chytil is pretty much spot on. I fail to see the value of 3 x 70 point seasons out of Miller. The further commitment and upheaval required on that path for a few competitive years is what we've seen for years here in New York. I'm tired of it. I want to see winners. I want to see the team compete for more than just a crack at the cup. Build an organization that can foster good young players, stop trading them away, and put them in a position for success. I'll take the chance of Chytil staying healthy and producing here for 8 years over 3 meaningless years of Miller anyday.

Canucks have won 3 straight. May not have to worry about a JT Miller trade after all.

She ain’t happy at all. Both the Nucks and us were top of the league (or close to it) last season so this time around it’s been disappointing.
I don't think there's a 'right' answer unfortunately because there's just too many variables. JT for not much starts to give the team a different look, but as you say on it's own it is not enough, and if you start giving up good pieces, they could probably be better spent elsewhere. Aiminng for guys around that 26 year old bracket makes much more sense, but those guys tend to cost a lot to get (and then keep as you start buying out UFA years), or have some red flags.

Look....it's not even clear that the Canucks are offering EP for a deal. It is clear that Miller is being offered and because that's true that shows a preference. My guess is the Canucks have decided to keep EP and to move JT. Moving both is probably not in the cards.
So there are some advantages for them to keep EP. He's a younger and very dynamic player. A guy they've invested a lot of time and money in. Of the two he is the more talented. Not necessarily the more productive though.
In the case of Miller---if we're taking on contracts his $8 mil would fit in a lot easier than EP's $11.6. Miller's a stronger and more physical player.....one that between the two I'd bet you could go deeper into playoffs with. He's the type who will bull his way into scoring areas. He's also an excellent face-off guy. This year's he's going at a 58.9 clip. EP's more of a Panarin type and JT more like a Matthew Tkachuk....only they're both centers. They both have 3 years of term left after this season.

Throwing away the numbers of each this year as a product of the team's disfunction and the locker room toxicity between the two there's nothing suggesting that JT is in any decline. At his age a decline could certainly set in before his contract's term is up. Last year was his most productive year ever. He was over 100 points. Between 21-22 and now EP's played 285 games scored 116 goals and 174 assists for 290 points. JT's played 281 games and scored 110 goals 218 assists for 318 points. That's 28 more points in 4 less games. Better face-off guy.....pretty much 59 to 45. Both can play in all situations. Miller's a significantly cheaper cap hit but also somewhat older. EP's got age and an edge in talent IMO but Miller's produced somewhat more offense and is a great face-off guy. Again it seems clear that Vancouver's intent is to keep the younger, more expensive player. So it's not clear to me what you're arguing about.
My concern bringing in Miller is I don't think it necessarily means the Rangers are going to the playoffs and even if so we'll go deep. It may be a trade that doesn't begin to work out for us until next year. The other concern is what we would give up for him. That said he's a very good player and when he's on he's an asshole to play against. He's not a soft player like Zibanejad has become. We'll have two legit top 6 C's at least for the next couple/three years. The Rangers will have to ask themselves will they be able to rebound next year with Trocheck, Mika and an often injured Filip as their main center guys and I think I'v seen enough of Mika as a 2C. Whether we're able to move him or not....I think he's got to be moved off the 2C and that kind of makes a hole we'll need to fill somehow.

Some of the Ovie hits /charges on his body likely took 3 years off his career . Most guys let Ovie go into a corner first....not DG . Time after time Ovie made him a part of the boards in those games .

Im not advocating for Miller necessarily, its not worth it at this point, but we need more assholes. Too many nice guys.

Now that Hall is on Carolina, could we possibly flip Panarin to Chicago? Bedard is sick of playing with bums.
Panarin has been a great Ranger yada yada I get it. I'm tiring of his selfish act. How many times have we seen this guy refuse to back check? Turn the puck over in the neutral zone or another compromising spot? Stay on for too long get too tired to make the defensive play? Force the East-West play when it isn't there? He's a regular season superstar, but he's extremely stubborn and this routine doesn't work in the playoffs when time and space is limited. Great player, but not one you win with as the center of your circle.
He will be 34 at the start of next season. Time to move on. We have Othmann, Berard, and Perreault on the way. All of them are wingers. We can shift Lafreneire back to his natural LW spot where he will win more battles on his strong side in the D zone. Use some of Panarin's cap space to re-sign our young guys, and for the love of God, get a better partner for Fox.

Is he? I think this guy does want to win. He shows up. He has his bad games here and there but overall he produces for this team.
Zibanejad is a major major issue. Kreider, I don’t know what to think anymore. Disappointed in his mental fortitude to rise above what has gone on this year and lead this team.
On a side note, if a JTM trade doesn’t happen today or tomorrow I think that is a sign that ship has sailed imo.
And this is what we get, and deserve for asking this guy, a thoroughbred, to do the nasty grunt work in front of the net 111% of the time, and constantly get beat up, and not have anyone else pitch in on this.
