Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

If we can get a player like JT Miller, I think you have to do it. I mean, who doesn't want to add another player with a trade clause? Capwages removed Borgen's trade clause. We need to get that back!

I don't know whether or not he "looks slower" but according to the data he is not slower. His top speed is actually up a touch over each of the last two years and his bursts are basically identical three years running.
I think that is because the guys that are chasing him are bigger....does the analytical data show that [the eye test does] !You guys see how the opposing puck retrieving D skate like cheetahs when Rempe is behind them.....same deal.

When they turned it around and were on the winning streak, of course you wanted to believe they could make the playoffs. And sure, they still have a chance to.

But you are fooling yourself if you really think this core/team has enough to go anywhere past that.

They dont have the ability/mental fortitude to sustain a .700+ winning from here on out. It was fun while it lasted.

Its a blessing in disguise that they are getting beat by better teams and slowly falling back down into a lottery spot. Adding to this team and missing the dance by a point or two or sneaking in is only going to be a detriment to the future.

It would be best if this continues and there's no doubt left, they are comfortable selling at the deadline and collecting assets to retool. Worst thing is if they hover around the bubble line and spend assets to buy. That was done 3 seasons in a row and this core has proven it cant get over the hump. And thats when they were winning Presidents Trophy.

Why in the world would this horrifically shitty season be any different? You are talking about a goddamn miracle.

Focusing on pure speed is misguided. It's really about his quickness level, ability to pivot and juke, make a move to get past a defender. That's where he "looks slower."

Adding guys like JTM and Gourde would do wonders for this group of pussalias.
Yeah... JTM really motivated Elias Pettersson. That guy's numbers skyrocketed once Miller expressed himself to him.

🤮

JTM solves nothing, and likely costs a first round pick and other assets. And once he's here, there is absolutely zero chance of real change happening.

I can’t believe I’m the one who’s saying this but the overreaction over the past two games is outrageous. Keep that in mind, it’s two games, against two really good teams that the rangers either outplayed or were even with for 5 of the 6 periods that were played. Shit happens.
Is it an overreaction? It's my opinion that January was a complete aberration.

I think it's an underreaction to just go with the status quo and expect a winning result.

This is not a contending team.

It is based on the fact that the last two games are not any different than how they were playing during the winning stretch. I don’t even disagree with the premise, I was on board with making changes no matter what, but the team is still playing pretty well they just haven’t gotten the results the last two games. Now is not the time to profusely attack their character lol.

During the winning stretch Shesterkin had a sub 1 GAA. It’s the same old song and dance. The Rangers are a goalie and a heaping, steaming pile of mediocrity. When the goalie is on, they win in spite of themselves. When he’s off they can’t buy a point. Two decades of the exact same thing is insanity and yet people still argue against it.

The Rangers lead the league in goals in January up until last night, so that’s not really true. Again I’m not even disagreeing necessarily but there’s no need to twist the truth. The Rangers have been playing much better as a team. They still need to make crucial changes and aren’t good enough to win the cup.

That fact that Rempe & Kreider are tied for assists this season is insane
Kreider has played 17:29 per game over 42GP and on PP1
Rempe has played 6:23 per game over 15GP
How is it even possible for Kreider to have so few assists?

Promote the 4th line

Laviolette cutting their ice time because his vets put the Rangers in a 1-0 hole a minute in was some great logic. The only line that brings the energy and gets the fans in it. Carrick tried to fight to get the team going. Shocking that year 7 of watching the rangers overpass and turn the puck over at the blue isnt getting the fans jazzed up.

Watch the replay of Kreider's turnover and ask how can character not be questioned? Laziest clearing attempt or spring pass ever from the thinking that he hustled back to break up the rush so his job was done.

Bread-Chytil-Cuylle
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe
Laf-Trocheck-Smith
Kreider-Zib-Kaliyev
this is what i would do at this point

put mika/kreider together on the 4th line and play them 8 minutes night. They’re active liabilities right now. i pray to god we can trade at least one of them before the deadline passes

unfortunately there’s zero chance kreider hasnt already significantly tanked his value. i don’t think there’s any team rn watching him and thinking “yeah, this guy is putting us over the top”

Adam Fox scored a SHG against Ottawa in the Rangers final game last season. In 16 playoff games, Fox had zero goals. A big bagel. 0. 8 lousy assists in 16 playoff games. No wonder why the Rangers lost. Again. I know, I know Fox was hurt after Jensen kneed him. It didn’t appear to be that bad. In 50 regular season games this season. Fox has one goal scored with the opposing goalie in the net. One. One lousy goal. January 9th. Power play. We can't blame the lack of opportunity. Fox's last goal at even strength 5 on 5 was last March 21 against Boston. 10 months ago. 78 games ago.

Adam Fox 2023-24 Stats per Game - NHL - ESPN

The fancy stats say Fox is Bobby Orr.
